Series: Love is All Around #3
Publication Date: 11/12/19
Number of Pages: Novella

Earlier this year, 2019, Darcy Burke realized that she didn’t have any Christmas books to her credit – and she promptly set about righting that grievous error. The wonderful result is the Love Is All Around trilogy. Each book is based somewhat on old Christmas tales. The first book, The Red Hot Earl, is loosely based on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the second book, The Gift of the Marquess, is loosely based on The

A wonderful Christmas tale that concludes the trio of books.

This section has strong connotations of Christmas Carol, and to my mind is brilliantly written.
I really enjoyed Calders story , his whole journey has been the strongest through all the books.

He’s a complicated, dark and broken character, damaged but not irreversibly so.
His past love Felicity may be the only one who could get to him and help undo the pain his father caused them both.

Don’t miss this great conclusion to the series, that

3/5 Stars.

A decent but highly predictable read. I wasn't fond of "Chill" or Calder from the start of the series, so I didn't have very high expectations of his book anyway. Despite that I did enjoy this book because of the inclusion of previous characters and it felt like a good closure to the entire series.

In the third and last installment of this series we finally learn why Calder aka "Chill" as he's popularly known -probably for his reputation to give two jots about anything really - is

Since his father's interference ruined his chance to marry the woman he loved, Calder Stafford has spent a decade proving himself to be aloof, uninterested in happiness, and certainly not in need of anyone's help. Now the Duke of Hartwell, he's determined to have his revenge by doing away with anything his father loved, especially the village's annual Christmas celebrations. No one will change his mind, not his sisters, and certainly not the newly returned woman who stole his heart.

Calder Stafford, the Duke of Hartwood is a heartless miser who since inheriting his father’s title, has hoarded his wealth, refused to support a home for unfortunate women and children, has turned his back on his sisters and refused to give his youngest sister Bianca the portion her father set aside for her because he doesn’t approve of her husband, in fact, he refused to attend her wedding. His sisters have tried reasoning with him, but he is cold and unresponsive – nothing seems to trigger ...more

Joy to the Duke is the third and sadly final book in the Love is All Around trilogy by Darcy Burke. You definitely don't have to read the other books first but I think you will have a much better idea of just how bitter the main male character in this story is if you do.

Calder Stafford is the new Duke of Hartwell. Unlike his sisters, Poppy and Bianca, Calder does not grieve his father's loss. They both had fond memories of him and have no idea how appallingly he treated Calder.

Darcy Burke’s Love is All Around series is brought to a beautiful conclusion with this delightful holiday themed novella. I had been anxious for Calder’s book since the very first novella. Like his sisters, I needed to know what had happened to him in life to make him so cold and bitter. The previous books gave a few clues so I knew it centered around Felicity Garland, the woman he’d loved ten years ago but who he thought had deserted him. So much more is unveiled in this book. A tragic story of ...more

Joy To The Duke is a fabulous historical holiday romance by Darcy Burke. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Burke has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a spectacular cast of characters. Felicity brought her mother home to Hartwood after an illness. Calder, Duke of Hartwell, loved Felicity once. Calder and Felicity's story is loaded with drama, humor and spice. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to my next book by Darcy ...more

WOW, what a ending to a great series, I loved the first books, " The Red Hot Earl" (my favorite ) "The Gift of the Marquess"[ was wonderful too.] I had a hard time wondering what Darcy would come up with for Bianca and Poppy's scrooge like brother, Calder or Chill. After he had caused so much pain and sadness in the first two stories. After reading all the books I have by Darcy I should have know it would be the best yet.

This is the 3rd & last of the trilogy of Christmas books that Darcy Burke has magically created for the Christmas Holiday & what a grand job she has done! I have hated Calder Stafford the Duke of Hartwell since the first book in the series. Yes, he has a hard life with a deplorable father that was kind to his two sisters but absolutely evil to Calder - to the point of using forgery, blackmail & payola to end Calder's chance to marry the lady he loved. Since the loss of love 10 years ...more

I love a good second-chance story, and the added bonus of this being inspired by A Christmas Carol made this one very enjoyable story, and my favorite of the three Christmas themed stories in this series.

"All I do since you returned is feel things. I don't like feeling things."

I adored our Scrooge, Calder. Raised by a cruel father, abandoned (or so he believed) by the woman he loves, and finally cut off by his father and left to make his own destiny, he has made it his life's work to depend on

Gave me all the “feels”!

Calder Stafford, Duke of Hartwell, is a cold and stubborn man who was emotionally hurt by his father and the woman he loved. Felicity Garland a farmer’s daughter, now a widow has returned to Hartwell to take care of her ailing Mother just in time for Christmas. Just 10 years ago she was in love with Calder until he sent her a letter telling her she could never be his duchess. He believes that 10 years ago she took money from his father and left him. She finds that

I have been waiting to read Calder story from reading the first book in this series, Red Hot Earl, and I will tell you I am not disappointed. I really loved this book. Calder has melted my heart like no other hero in a long time has. This is the 3rd book in the series, Love Is All Around, it can be read alone but let me tell you if you can read all three books it will make you appreciate this one even more. Darcy Burke has written such a nice romance for all three siblings, they are each so ...more

Joy To The Duke by Darcy Burke
Love Is All Around #3

Holidays past, present and future are looked at by Calder in this historical Christmas romance that provides him a second chance with Felicity. The two were parted abruptly ten years before and the intervening years have changed them both in a variety of ways. With so much time lost between them it might be difficult to rekindle their feelings...or then again...perhaps not. Both had misconceptions and hurt feelings over what transpired in the

This was a cute, super loose nod to a Christmas Carol. I loved the family themes, especially (view spoiler); it showed a surprisingly nuanced, impacted portrait (view spoiler) for a slim little story that focused on other things, and I really liked how it affected Calder's character.

We finally find out what made Calder, Duke of Hartwell, become such a Scrooge. We know it had something to do with his young love, Felicity, leaving 10 years prior. Now we know why she left and the horrible life Calder had growing up as the heir to the dukedom.
Felicity is back in the village to help her mother recover from an illness. After running into her one-time love, Calder, she insists on getting to the bottom of things in regard to his behaviour. He is living up to his nickname of Chill a

Calder, Duke of Hartwell, has become cold and unfeeling towards his sisters and his tenants. His sisters can’t understand why. Felicity, has moved back to the village and has decided to help Calder find his way back to how he used to be ten years ago. I liked the fact that Felicity understood Calder so well. However, would he allow her to affect how he feels. There are a number of things in the past that need explaining. This was an enthralling read that I enjoyed very much. The first two ...more

This was a very enjoyable take on A Christmas Carol. Calder was a perfect Scrooge, and I felt his thawing out was pretty believable given the short timeline. I thought the nightmares were a very nice touch. I enjoyed reading about Felicity, too, and liked her persistence. I enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous books and felt this was a great way to end a great series!

A love not lost, but stolen! Yes, that's taken straight from the book. It's the most beautiful story in this series. I've been waiting for Calder's story and I was not disappointed. My heart went out to this broken man. And I loved Felicity's persistence which helped him come back into the light. This is the perfect Christmas story. You cry a lot but in the end, your heart is full of joy.

Bah Humbug…not really. This is a story of what if’s and what can be’s. I loved the Christmas Carol vibe. Calder is a grouchy young man who does not feel like he can be a part of the world (at least not happily) but Felicity has other ideas in mind. Her love for Calder and that she never gives up on him is beautiful poetry. This story was so lovely and has such great meaning during the Christmas season (especially the scenes at the Hartwell House). A great ending to a fantastic series.

Because only then you'll understand the personality of Calder, the older brother and holder of the duke title.

Endearing, bittersweet, second chance romance!

I love a redemption tale based on the healing power of a second chance romance - a mutual love that refuses to be smothered - and this one with it's clever and fun take on A Christmas Carol has real charm and heart.
Having met Calder in book 1/2, I was very surprised to sympathise and truly like him so instantly from the first chapter. His heartache over Felicity was so deeply palpable, further reflected through his touching and obvious love for his

This is Darcy's version of Scrooge's story. She did a very creative rendering of the classic Christmas Tale. I've enjoyed her retelling of old Christmas stories we all grew up with. This is Duke Calder Stafford's happily ever after. We learn what has made him into the withdrawn miserly lonely man.

Widowed Felicity Templeton Garland has returned to town after 10 years to care for her mother. She finds her hometown the same but different. She left when her true love, Calder, rejected her at 18 as

Aha finally! Calder’s story and after so much anticipation definitely the best of all three (for me at least). The last book in this Christma trilogy is probably the best yet. Calder has been coming across as quite a ‘jerk’ in the previous two books, and this one redeemed him perfectly if not heart breakingly!!

Suffering quietly through his father’s cruelty Calder Stafford, the Duke of Hartwell, bottled up all this angst and anger and became ‘Chill’. He was mean to his sisters and generally angry

Ten years ago, Felicity and Calder were in love and ready to commit to a life together. Calder’s father, the Duke of Hartwell, felt that Felicity was not who he wanted for his son’s wife. After all, she was the daughter of a local farmer. (Ugh, sometimes I hate dukes.) Now to the present time…Felicity is back in Hartwell to care for her sick mother. Calder is in a deep funk because of the Christmas holiday and the feelings that he associates with the time of year. We met Calder in the first book ...more

My oh my. Calder, the brother of Bianca and Poppy, featured in the first two books in this series, is very much a ”Scrooge” of a Duke. After reading the first two novellas in the series, I formed a very unfavorable opinion of him as he seemed to have no redeeming character. I knew Ms. Burke would have to craft a very special and enlightening tale about him to get me to change my opinion and like the man. Voilà! She did it wonderfully. There were several times when his story was so heartrending ...more
