This was my first book by Mel Gough and I was not disappointed. I will be looking for more of her books. I was drawn in after the first chapter and couldn’t put it down until the end. The story was well written and the characters were all well developed (even the secondary ones). I enjoyed watching Carrie, Jay, Corey and Lou come together. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this group. I recommend this book if you like rock stars, murder/mystery, an alpha female, and polyamorous relationships.< ...more

🔥🔥🔥 Heat Level: 3.5

There is so much to this story!! Murder, steam, chemistry and a little thrill.

I was gripped from the start and needed to know what happened next. I love a good mystery and I liked that my every perception/expectation was mostly challenged. I still need to know why the person did what they did, so I'm really hoping that will be explained in the next book, but Mel's got me hooked.

I found the romance elements surprisingly or

This was a wonderfully well written book. Most are stuffed full of erotica and sex this author actually put a lot of time and effort into the plot and story. It helped to really understand the characters and story-line. It was a great read.

Carrie is one hard ass FBI agent until she meets three boys that will change everything she thinks and does regarding her job and her personal life to boot. She is strong and powerful yet small and mighty in personality.

THEIR SPECIAL AGENT is the first book in the Thistle Hearts series, Thistle Hearts being the name of the band. They were famous 'back in the day' and are now embarking on a tour, not only for their careers but also to showcase new talent. Everything goes well until their manager is killed, and that is where Carrie gets involved.

The story itself was enjoyable, with one-on-one scenes with Carrie and each of the band members in turn. There is only one scene at the end where they are all

This book contains two of my favourite tropes - rock stars and a juicy murder mystery but no matter the genre of book I’m reading, two things are very important. A believable and engaging plot and characters that are really well developed. This book is extremely successful on both counts. There are points of difference in this story set it aside from other RH books but I have no wish to give spoilers in this review so I will just say that those points of difference give a fresh perspective to RH ...more

Disappointing

This was disappointing. I love a good FBI thriller/mystery and I'm a huge fan of RH so this sounding like a perfect match. Unfortunately, it fell flat on so many levels. This mystery was never really solved. They caught the bad guy but we never got his reasons for doing it and his accomplices weren't brought in either. There's some talk about the possible murder of their old bandmate, but nothing is ever resolved their either. Carrie talks about an ex-husband but we never get the f

A love story that s set in a murder mystery. Much action and intrigue are strewn throughout, enough the keep the story moving quickly to the conclusion. I suspected about of the way who the culprit was, but it was still a surprise on the motive. The love story does turn into a sort of reverse harem, but there is some MM action so I would classify it as a Polyamory group, rather than a reverse harem. The love scenes, while moving the relationship of the four ahead, does not detract from the over ...more

This is a Reverse Harem with a suspense/mystery plot, rock stars,an alpha female FBI agent, bisexual scenes and a HFN ending.

This is a hard book to review.I couldn't connect with Carrie for most of the book.As her perspective is the main one and the writing is wordy it made it hard to get into the book. The guys and secondary characters worked for me and the though though it felt rushed the last part of the book came together better. There is a feeling of setting up for the next book,w

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. When a band manager is murdered, special agent Carrie is called in by local Austin PD.
When lines blur for Carrie as she gets closer to the band, how will going undercover help her case. Will she just be a passing fancy for the Corey, Jay and Lou or will feelings deep farther than anyone one thought.  Jay is haunted by yet another murder victim but can Carrie help with past pains? Can they catch the killer before they str

I requested an ARC for this book because the premise hooked me. I liked that one of the main characters was an alpha female. I loved the murder-mystery and was hooked with the first chapter. I even got past the lackadaisical naming of one of the members of the band and the main character's boss. I loved the first three-fourths of the book. It is the last one-fourth of the book that I had issues with. It felt like the ending of the book was rushed after the author struggled to find a resolution t ...more

4.5 stars, rounded up
This was a fun MMMF romance plus murder mystery. I loved how strong Carrie was, though I felt bad for her daughter throughout the book. The guys in Thistle Hearts were each special in their own ways, and I fell for them as Carrie did. Corey seemed to be the most grounded, Lou the most vulnerable and brilliant, and Jay the most intense and cynical. The sexy scenes were hot, and the action scenes were thrilling. The characters had great interaction.
I was satisfied

Their Special Agent is the first book in the Thistle Hearts series by Mel Gough. This story is a reverse harem romance involving three men and one woman and the multiple combinations these lovers can join together. These character are well developed, interesting and captured my interest.

Filled with suspense, steam, and drama, this book delivers a wonderfully well written tale. The heat index is scorching and the connections sweet... but the action, mystery, and crime drama factor also makes thi

As far as I'm aware this is the first book from this author that I've read and for the most part I really enjoyed it.  I don't normally read gay fiction but given that it wasn't just mm but also mf I took a chance.  Glad that I did as it was very much mf in a reverse harem-style, but there was a strong mm emotional link between characters throughout the book.  I enjoyed this book but it did leave me hanging with things not quite resolved.  There's not quite a HEA and the murder is not quite reso ...more

These stories (MMMF) are definitely in my wheelhouse. Couple that with a murder mystery/suspense/thriller and I'm definitely a happy camper. I hope there will be more with these characters because I don't feel like we got a conclusion...either to their relationship (which I'd say is HFN) or to the kind of solved mystery. Well written and I have to say...I certainly need to learn more about Jay, Lou and Corey! Yes please and thank you! :)

I like the story and it was steamy but it is very wordy. I never thought I'd say a book was too descriptive. I felt there was too much repetition of explanations. I felt the start a but slow but I am happy I kept reading. I do feel like something was left out, as though the author had intended on making the story longer but ended up cutting it short.

Fantastic

What a wonderful book! This is my first time reading this author, but I was in no way disappointed. I loved that the romance was part of the book, but not the whole book. Can't wait for the next one!

Mel Gough loves writing about love – but with a twist. Nominated for the 2019 Selfies Awards, her bisexual romantic suspense novel He is Mine is a typical Mel Gough story. She needs her HEA fix, but on the way there will be thorns and fire, and sometimes brimstone. All right, that might be over the top, especially since her stories are firmly based in the real world - though not always in the here ...more
