Belle hopes the trip will be a much-needed break from her stalled acting career and uniquely humiliating waitressing job, but once ...more

THE LION'S DEN turned out to be the perfect read for my current mood. It was light, frothy, and utterly mean-spirited, a scathing critique on social climbers through the medium of locked-room murder mystery aboard a private yacht. Similar to Janelle Brown's PRETTY THINGS, everyone in the book is an awful person... but some of them are more awful than others.

Aspiring actress Belle is a little surprised when her friend Summer invites her

The more I got into the story, the more this one turned into a binge read. This is exactly the type of book I needed right now. Rich people behaving horribly. Doesn't get much better than that when you are in the mood for an escapism type read from your fairly boring and normal life.

Belle is an actress but still hasn't managed to nab that breakout star type role so she can't quit her job as a waitress quite yet. When her best friend, Summer, invites her on a Mediterranean getaway aboard her very

    What an amazingly addictive read!

I spent the majority of the past 2 days just devouring this book. I really, really enjoyed it! I could have done without all the French/Italian/Spanish. It was pretty easy to figure out the gist of what they were saying, but there was more than was necessary.

It has everything you could want... definitely a perfect beach read for this summer.

But, can a girl get an epilogue?? I need to know what happens to everyone!

This book was fast paced, couldn't put it down! A childhood friendship, betrayal, mystery, on a grand scale... really enjoyed it! Won it in a giveaway yesterday! Thank you!

It takes a long while to get a payoff when reading this book. Maybe the last 70 or 80 pages were interesting or at least supplied a bit of a surprise, but the first 270 or so were a slog for me. It wasn't exactly because of the superficial characters and their superficial lives and their lack of any redeeming qualities. I can handle that if the plot is interesting enough and the writing is good. But in this case the characters here have the vocabulary and complexity of thought of your average ...more

This book is referred to as a beach read, which I suppose it is, but I feel that term degrades the well-written plot of THE LION'S DEN. There's the lifestyle of the rich and glamorous combined with the drama of a Real Housewives' show with an exciting twist and murderous scheme. Definitely recommend and will look forward to other books by this author!

Thanks to Katherine St. John, Grand Central Publishing, and NetGalley for the pre-pub access.

I read this book in one sitting... and I have a 3-year-old. It's addictively page-turning and made me feel like I got to go on a luxurious all-expenses-paid yacht vacation in the South of France... from the safety of my couch. Katherine has a delicious way of describing both beauty and deceptively beautiful wickedness. But what starts as a seemingly empty-calorie beach read, deftly twists and turns into surprising depths. So good.

Thank you to Grand Central Pub. And Netgalley for allowing me to preview this thriller. Belle is unsure whether to accept her friend Summers invitation for a week on her boyfriends yacht to celebrate Summers birthday. She finally decides to go and is among several other friends of Summers. Theyre all packed for some great fun in the sun until it isnt fun. Soon they find out their host, Summers much older billionaire boyfriend, is having them drugged before they go to bed and that they are locked ...more

Belle is an aspiring actress when she can get the work. Otherwise, she serves drinks working at a popular nightclub in LA. When she is offered an all-expense-paid week on a yacht in the French Riviera, she starts packing. The vacation does come with a downside. She is invited by her childhood best friend turned career opportunist, Summer. Summer has latched on to a billionaire business mogul, John, more than thirty years older.

Belles relationship with Summer is complicated. They were former

I appreciate receiving an ARC of this novel. It was very hard to put down. It is a story about extravagant behaviors of the very rich and also a thriller. There are many unexpected twists and turns. The author's flashback technique of setting the background is very engaging. Just as Belle gets to a crisis, the chapter ends and we are taken to a previous scene that prepares us for the ending, yet doesn't give us quite enough to guess what comes next.
Readers get a little touch of decadent

This book provided a delicious lens into the lives of the ultra-rich for whom private jets and Mediterranean yachts are the norm.

When Belle, a struggling actress, is invited for a week of luxury by her one-time best friend on the friend's new, much older, boyfriend's yacht, she can't resist the temptation of such an alluring offer. Despite her reservations, slowly revealed to the reader through a series of breadcrumbs and well-placed flashbacks, Belle accepts and can almost immediately tell

If you are looking for the ultimate beach read, especially if you are as sick of winter as I am, look no further. Katherine St.John has crafted an absorbing whodunit that will keep you on your toes until the very last chapter.

Belle and Summer have been best friends since high school, and though their life choices are quite different, Belle believes that Summer's gold-digging tendencies are due to her own insecure upbringing. But when Summer invites Belle and some of her other close friends on a

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did, but it was un-put-down-able! Luxury, riches, sex, betrayal, lies, and intrigue all wrapped up into a well written page turner. A really fun beach-read romp into the lives of the mega-rich, and the wannabes. A great choice for a summer vacation or long weekend.

I approached this read with no preconceptions: unknown (so far) writer, generic beach-read murder-mystery cover, promise of class clashes. Little did I know how I would be cemented to my chair for a day and a half while I followed Belle and Summer along their Mediterranean route. The story follows Summer (the user) and Belle (the used) as their friendship devolves from the relative equality of their high school days, through the vicissitudes of their upward climbs in career and social status, to ...more

Belle, a struggling actress and all-around nice person, is invited on a weeklong cruise on a private yacht in the Mediterranean with her semi-BFF, Summer, to celebrate Summers birthday. Summers mom and loudmouth sister will be there as well as a couple of friends from college. It sounds like a wild all-girl party in the Riviera and Belle is excited, and nervous. She and Summer have had their ups and downs and Belle is not fond of Summers immensely wealthy sugar daddy, John. Hes twice her age and ...more

I received a free copy of The Lion's Den through Goodreads giveaways in exchange for an honest review.

When I entered to win this book, I honestly thought this was going to be a standard cookie cutter book. All I will say, is boy was I wrong and I am glad I got a chance to read/review this book. I rate it 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5). It loses half a star for the slowness in the beginning and the first couple of flashback chapters were a little painful. Now that I have finished the book, I

This book was different. I thank everyone for the advance reading copy. Boy if this is how the rich live then I am glad I am closer to middle class. This book proves that the grass is not greener on the other side. The old saying "the more you have the more you want" is so true. At first it seemed like everything was beautiful then reality set in. Why people become so mean is beyond me. My motto in life is kindness gets kindness but Summer certainly hasn't learned that and I'm glad she is ...more
