OH MYYYYY GOODNESSSSSS! Finally literature gods heard my prayers that I’ve been requesting to read a fantastic romance that I’ve been craving for so long! I need something heart wrenching, shaking me to the core, help me feel everything at the same time: happiness, angst, joy, forgiveness, enjoyment, resentment, hurting! Yes, I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! I want to scream it! Oh, thankfully I already did!

I have to add that: This is not beach read. This is GLUED READ. You don’t want to end it and

I wrote this book because I wanted to do something fun but I still ended up making myself cry, so what's new?

My first by the author and I really enjoyed it. I thought it would be more of a rom-com, but it is more women's fiction with a romance. The way things played out was entertaining and I was cheering for a HEA ending! Did it happen?

Loved the characters, January and Gus, who are both authors and in a bit of a writing slump. It was interesting to read about how authors feel when writing and struggling to get a book completed. I felt their chemistry and liked the way they were both flawed characters

Beach Read by Emily Henry is the best book I've read this year so far, and easily a top 10 on my all-time favorites list.

Beautifully written, this book tells the story of January Andrews, a romance author that fiercely believes in happy endings. That is until the fake perfection of her life comes crashing down. A year later and she is utterly broke, avoiding her agent and desperately trying to write some new material, while provisionally moving into her late father's secret love-nest on Lake

Okay so here is my attempt at making a formal review for one of my easily favourite reads of 2020.

This is a love story between two very broken individuals. One is a fiction writer who searches for the dark unsettling things and pours his gut-wrenching words into literary fiction and the other chooses happiness and sunshine, writing romance novels for those who seek an escape. They both have complicated pasts. He grew up with an abusive father and felt he was missing a piece of him because of

Emily Henry does a phenomenal job describing the heat between literary writer Augustus (Gus) Everett and romance writer January Andrews. Gus has been giving her a hard time about her desire to give everyone a happily ever after (HEA) since they attended the same fiction class in college. When they find themselves living next door to each other in a small tourist town on Lake Michigan, they challenge each other to see if the other can’t write what s/he would write. January dislikes that he ...more

I absolutely loved this book! Beach Read had me grinning from ear to ear on my commute and staying up until 1 am to finish it. I requested this book from Edelweiss when I saw Sally Thorne had recommended it. I was expecting a fun and fluffy beach read but got so much more. Beach Read was sharp and witty following January, a down on her luck writer who is escaping to a small lake town in Michigan to try to finish her past due novel while cleaning out the home her late father kept with his ...more

This book was basically an extension of my hand for the past 12 hours reading it off and on, just waiting for the next opportunity to pick it back up. Now it is nearly 2:30am and I have tired, teary eyes, and a very full heart. Needless to say, it was incredible.

If this book is not already on your TBR for May, I hope my review puts it there! I’m giving this story all the stars!!

January Andrews writes bestselling romance novels. Augustus Everett pens literary fiction. They have what may seem a rivalry in writing, but deep down it’s a mix of unspoken feelings, missed opportunities, & a heavy weight of unexpected conflicts. These two characters are rich with wit & that delicious spark that ignites between opposites, which ultimately you know will

Well, I don't think I can talk to another human being for a while, because if I do, it's going to be solely about this book for the foreseeable future.

If someone ever asked me to describe the elements of a Perfect Romance Novel For Lily Herman, I'd just send them a copy of Beach Read. It's got it all: Snappy AF dialogue! An enemies-to-lovers storyline! Writers as main characters who I, for once, don't want to punch in the face! Enough steam to fog the windows but not enough for me to think I'm

I always finish Emily Henry novels in the middle of the night. I can never bear to put them down. She is just unmatched. BEACH READ was every bit as tender and witty and sharp and steamy as I’d hoped it would be. So grateful Berkley sent me this ARC-- I will be pelting customers with copies as soon as it’s out.

4.5 stars, highly recommended for all libraries, book clubs, and women’s/general fiction readers. For fans of Arranged by Catherine McKenzie or Star-crossed by Minnie Darke.

This love story felt honest and real and a little bit broken. Rather than focusing on “new adult” characters, this story has a 29yo falling in love with a 32yo, who are both still staggering a bit, as life hasn’t worked out quite the way they had originally planned. This 37yo can relate— I think that was the year I got laid

**I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley.**

I really, really adored this book. It is straight up hysterical and the characters are wonderful. So many things here left me either laughing or grinning - or, in some cases, actually tearing up because Henry is as good with sad moments as she is with funny.

All this said, I do think the book is a smidge uneven, with the beginning being way stronger than the ending. There was definitely a point or two in the last few chapters where things felt a

What do you get when you cross a disillusioned romance author with a Hemingway circle jerk writer? A compulsively readable book where you kind of hope for your train to be delayed so you can spend a few more minutes with January and Gus. These two are saddled with writers block and make a pact to write the others genre. Literary snobbery is (rightfully) called out and the two begin to navigate a friendship outside of writing as they explore the others’s process. Reader, I loved it.

I have been in a SERIOUS reading slump. Like epic. Like can't finish any book I start for MONTHS. I don't know why, but this one finally drew me out of it. I don't usually read Rom Coms (I watch a lot, however) but the literary premise drew me in and I really really loved it. It had depth, but not too much, great characters, sexy interactions and it really made me LOL. (lol) Being inside the protagonist's head was fun and compelling and a great escape.

    Between 5 and 10 stars.

    Wow. WOW.
This book blew me away and it really resonated with me. The blurb intrigued me and I requested but I can say this was not what I expected. So NOT a beach read.

What it is instead is so well written, so deep, so emotion-filled and stirring.

January and Gus knew each other in college and couldn't stand each other. Years later, she comes to the beach house her father left her and Gus lives next door. She recognizes him first and thinks he doesn't her, but he does.

This book was incredible! Not at all what I was expecting from that cover, but amazing all the same.

January arrives in a little lake town in Michigan with the intention of writing a far past due novel and cleaning out her late father's 'love shack' he had kept with his mistress. A mistress she only learned of after his passing. Oh did I mention she was just dumped by her boyfriend of six years? To say that she's not in a good headspace would be the understatement of the century.

As a published romance author, January Andrews sees life as a series of scenes and plot twists. She’s currently escaping her latest deadline by spending the summer at a beach house -- while just next door, Gus, or Mr Sexy Evil Grin, as January called him back in college, is in the midst of researching his next literary novel. What follows is a summer of Rom-Com 101 and Intro to Lit-Fic field trips in a competition to write and sell a book of the opposite genre. While January and Gus’s lives are ...more

Beach Read was the best read for a cold, snowy day. Full of heart & romance & romance novels.

I went into Beach Read blind, as in I didn't even read so much as a blurb before diving in. And I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I normally prefer to sway more towards the erotic side of romances, but it was time for something a little lighter. Not that Beach Read was a light read by any means (tricky title there). I actually found myself more invested in the character's well-beings than in a typical

This book made me laugh, cry, reread passages, burst out into mad smiles at the clever writing, and so much more. It made me stop my husband while he watched TV to tell him how brilliant chapter 15 was written. It also confused him when he walked into the living room and saw me crying over my Kindle. Beach Read was so much more than I could have imagined or wanted. It was real, raw, and lovely. I loved every second. I already want to re-read it. I also love that I got to read it in January :)
