I notice that a number of other reviewers have criticised this for having "too much". Up to a point, I can see their point. There are humans, were-animals of many descriptions (even wererats!), vampires, witches, aliens from space, demons from the fifth dimension, then all of these have agendas to describe so it is not short of variety. The net result of this is it takes a little while to get going, and to keep it to a reasonable scale, some of the activities get a fairly quick airbrush. The ...more

This book caught my attention by all of the genre blends, unfortunately it turned out to be a case of way too many ingredients in the soup to make this an effective story.

The beginning of the book I was intrigued by Parker’s interaction with his wolf and was excited to see what would come next. However I got bored very quickly when it seemed to go into a really deep pity party on his part. Trying to keep up with all of the stops and starts that seemed to plague this story just wore me out after

Parker Berenson has recently defeated the old alpha of Seattle's werewolf clan, assuming the title and all its responsibilities. If running the clan wasn't enough, he also has to deal with the local Master vampire, Kurt, and his former lover, Garrett, a powerful witch. "Complecated" doesn't even begin to describe their relationship.

In the world Bland lays out for us, Earth is populated with humans and exotics (in

I'm going to have to abandon this one having read about a third of it. What promised to be a lively, different, paranormal book left me rather puzzled with my lack of investment in the characters.

Parker, a werewolf alpha and leader of the Seattle pack, struck me as completely ineffectual in that he dithered in making decisions; got angry at being questioned about his actions or non-actions; did not appear to have any control (or even seeming control) over his pack; and IMO did not deserve the

First I just want to say how much I loved this book. It's not something I would normaly read, so I was completely shocked when I started reading. The reason I loved this book is very simple: it was well written with a great plot and characters.

If you love vampires, witches, ware wolves, and all that stuff you have to run out and buy this book!!!! Its not for children or young readers. And yes that means there are some parts that make it impossible to put it down.

The Underground (Second Edition) by Roxanne Bland is a blend of genres which include science fiction, dark urban fantasy and paranormal romance with an adult theme which includes profanity, violence and graphic erotic content.

It is not lions and tigers and bears, but rather werewolves, vampires, witches, and shapeshifters called “Exotics” that rule the night. You will either love it or hate it depending on your ability to meld into the author’s fantasy world and find something strangely

Parker and Kurt are in a constant struggle for power. They, together with other types of ‘exotics’, live in Seattle together with human beings. Human are afraid of them and are repelled by the very idea of these creatures. The exotics only want peace. There is a plan, but there is a woman who might prove problematic to the success of said plan. As a means of displaying his superiority, Kurt takes Parker’s woman. Not because he wants her but because he wants to make a statement. Will peace ever ...more

I thought “The Underground” started off a little slow, but thankfully it picked up before too long, and I was not a fan at all of the ‘thoughts’ the characters were constantly saying (in the italics). Just felt wordy and unnecessary and almost slightly pretentious for some reason. That being said, I may have enjoyed this book more than the first one I read from Ms. Bland. The slow-building action kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time, and we saw far more character development in this ...more

I’m really becoming a fan of Roxanne Bland’s books… this is the second one I’ve read from her – the first being “The Moreva of Astoreth”. This one, “The Underground” stands independently of its predecessor with all new characters and storyline. But like the first, the writing is terrific, there is lots of great action (more so later in the book) and plenty of twists (which while a tad detectable still fun), lots of interesting dialogue between the characters (and themselves at times), and ...more

Wow, where do I begin. Thinking this was a tame book, maybe a bit of action, but not a big deal. Well I was so wrong. We start off with Parker, the Were Alpha of Seattle, who is dealing with crap from the Head Vampire Kurt and his Freya Garrett who is a powerful witch. Later thrown into the mix is a demon who is repeatedly summoned to kill humans, an Alien Queen who suffers from amnesia and so much more. There are so many twists in this story as Garrett, Parker and Kurt each try to avoid a ...more

Roxanne Bland puts the chips on the table when she tried to blend a vampire, witch, and werewolf together in a tryst to bring peace to a city that doesn’t even want it. The humans are content pretending there aren’t “exotics” living among them and the “exotics” want to live in peace. All that changes when a serial killer targets both start a war that makes losers of all involved.

The complex life of leading a pack of werewolves in Seattle would have been welcoming to Parker Berenson. But the

Roxanne Bland's book is anything but bland - it is a thrilling mixture of story types, coming together to build a text that you can devour in one sitting and then want to pick up again. Truly thrilling at some points, you will feel your pulse start to jump as you read. If you are a fan of supernatural romances and stories, this is certainly a great book for you to pick up. It takes a few pages to really get into their story, but once you are into it, you are there and you will immediately ...more

First thing I thought when I saw this book was, “O no another Twilight.”

So not the case!

This is like if Tim Burton got an itch to write a romance novel but kept going back to his old ways. There are witches, vampires, and other creatures all over this city. Which add another level of twisted. There are vivid scenes and cursing, the author does not hold back. This is not your moms Twilight.

The story follows a vampire and his longing to find his lost love. Throughout the book you encounter the

Definitely 18+, and very dark in places - but I enjoyed it.
Parker is in love with Garrett - but Kurt, the Vampire King appears to have her under his spell, and insists that they will share. When Parker finds out the truth, he doesnt want anything to do with their plans. When he meets Melera, he has no idea what she is - but he falls in love with her. Will he be able to keep her safe, away from Kurt and stop a war which could destroy the planet?

I received this book for free and my review is voluntary.

I loved this book. The interaction between the species was so different than your usual supernatural creatures. The way Parker loved with all of him was sad and exciting to read. Melera was just simply bada** and beautiful. I even enjoyed Kurt's egotistical personality but he loved Parker and Garrett. The latter, Garrett I could have done without her but it helped the story.

This book is a complex story of shapeshifters, witches, vampires, and aliens all living in Seattle. . At first, it is a little hard to follow, but keep reading because it's a great book.At first you have two different stories, one following the shapeshifter, and one following the alien. They en up blending together and become one tale. Well worth taking the time to read

This book was originally published in 2013, I just couldn't get into this story and found myself skimming. Lots of paranormals set in Seattle but the friends and enemy's was confusing. Very erotic which I didn't like.

I received this as a goodreads giveaway, so I really wanted to finish it, but I just can't. I don't care about any of the characters, there's way too much going on, which makes it hard to follow, and I feel like the author was trying way too hard. I made it about a quarter of the way through and found myself dreading reading it. Life is too short and there are too many books to dread reading one.

For me, this book is very complicated. There were parts that I really enjoyed and others that made me want to altogether stop reading it. In my opinion, the entirety of this novel is one big hodgepodge of random characters and erotic imagery. Yes, there is quite a lot of sex in this book. Maybe a little too much. The way in which it was portrayed was strange, to say the least. The plot itself left many unanswered questions. It would begin

4 out of 5 stars for "The Underground" by Roxanne Bland

Life as alpha of a werewolf pack is anything but predictable. But even Parker Berenson is surprised by the latest twist: he’s fallen in love with a space alien. Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn't. After all, just because she’s an interstellar assassin doesn't mean she’s guilty. Others aren't so sure. Seattle’s vampire Master Kurt and the powerful mage Garrett

I won this book as a result of the Goodreads First Readers Contest. I was quite excited to find out how the author would combine two of my favourite genres.
I am now finished and still a little confused by the book. The characters were great - I like characters that have faults along with abilities. However there were times in the story that I felt as if I had missed whole chapters. There were leaps in the storyline that I wished had been better explained. There were more than enough chapters

The Underground was the weirdest book I have ever read. The mature content tag is definitely warranted. There were all sorts of zots: vampires, warewolfs (and other wares such as rats and panthers), witches, elves (to a lesser extent), and alien and a demon. Half of the book seemed to be some kind of graphic sex scene between one zot and another or multiple zots.

Based on the novel description I was expecting a lot more with Melera and Parker trying to prove Melera’s innocence in the murders.

I loved the author's work 'The Moreva of Astoreth', so I was looking forward to reading this. If you've read anything by Ms Bland before, you'll know that her characters are never clear-cut 'good' or 'bad'. Like reality, we all have a bit of everything in us. Just for a refreshing change, the characters in this book are the same, but times a million.

Just a wee warning, there is sex in here. Rough sex, sex magic, sex for the hell of it, and rape. Rape to show just who's in charge, who has all the

I gave up at 35%. I thought I was reading a UF story then aliens popped up. I thought perhaps the version I got had been corrupted with a file from another

My biggest problem is that none of the characters were likable, not a single one. Parker handles his role as alpha poorly, Kurt supposedly loves someone but tortures that person. None of the three main characters to the 35% point spend any page time together having meaningful interaction so the reader can't get interested or care
Got the book from Goodreads First Reads.

It was...different. An alien--and every supernatural creature you can imagine--dealing with a turf war in Seattle. Could have used some more editing. I think the summary gave a bit too much away if you were supposed to care more about Garrett betraying Parker. It also felt like the author wanted to shove everything she knew about into one novel. The four main voices was okay, since they all had different stories, and the uthie's and Pinkie's spotlights

This book is definitely for the adult 18+ genre and contains elements of sexual play that are not for everyone, so be aware. Kurt is such a sadist! This vampire king uses his subjects as a playground for his deviant sexual desires. I felt so bad for Parker whose lover Garrett was two timing him and loving it, with the vampire master who controlled Parker's every move. So I am glad Parker fell in love with Melera, an alien woman of untold secrets. But can he keep her safe and under the radar of ...more

Supernatural adventure with vamps werewolves and more

This story is very busy with a lot of action and events going on at once. Werewolf alpha Parker and Vamp leader Kurt fight over control and the witch Freya is also involved. The story keeps you quickly following as you are thrown down the rabbit hole in search of a way to prevent war between the supernatural and the humans. I enjoyed this read and found there may have been a little too much going on but with the way my mind works I like to

I enjoyed this story, it was quite different. There were times I was feeling that there was a lot missing with the background for the characters. For the most part the characters were well developed, there were some characters needing more development and background. The world building was mediocre, some of the world building could have been done better. With some time, this story could be made even better. I like it, but although I wanted to, I didn't love it.
