A Marked Witch by Ashley McLeo

My Review:

Four students who attend the Spellcasters Spy Academy are on summer break but decide to spend that time by doing an internship in Portland in but in different fields. Eva is a witch and decides she wants to study demons. Eva and her mentor find some old ancient ruins that allow demons to cross over into their world. Eva and her friends end up fighting some of the demons that pass through the portal.

I enjoyed reading A Marked Witch and getting a sneak peek into this new series of Ashley McLeo and can’t wait to get started on the first book in the Spellcasters Spy Academy, A Legacy Witch.

Sneak Peek:

Master Exeter’s head jerked in a nod, and slowly, we turned our attention from the tree to the larger graveyard.

That was when we saw it, a hand reaching out from the ground not twenty feet away.

The Dark Season by Jaci Miller

My Review:

Sixteen year old Claire and seven year old Livy lost their parents three years ago and ever since Claire has been taking care of Livy with the help of her friend William who helps her out with the chores.

It is almost Halloween and every year on Halloween Claire and Livy try to contact their parents in the other realm without success but this year just may be different. Will this year be the year? Will they make contact with their parents or will they make contact with something else?

I really liked reading The Dark Season and can’t wait to check out more stories by Jaci Miller.

Sneak Peek:

Impulsively she glanced over her shoulder and saw the ancient witch weaving in and out of the shadow behind her. Green eyes pierced the darkness, devilish orbs mocking her as she gave chase. A tangled mass of gray hair surrounded the witch’s ashen face, the edges of which were sharp and pointed. Black remnants of a tattered dress billowed around her as she flew.

The Nutcracker Curse Prequel by Margo Ryerkerk

My Review:

Clara finds a key that she believes belonged to her mother and would open her trunk. Clara and Philp take the key to the basement where her mother’s trunk is being kept and uses it to unlock the trunk.

Clara, Philip and her unicorn Biscuit take a dive into the trunk and in up the mer world where they meet a mermaid who needs her help.

I have read Clara and Philips story in The Nutcracker Curse and couldn’t wait to read about their adventures into the mer world. I would like to read more about Alantia and Fabian and the mer world.

Sneak Peek:

Carefully, almost reverently, I pushed the silver key into the trunk’s lock and turned. The lock sprang open and I lifted the top of the trunk. What I found made me gasp. Biscuit neighed, and Philip said tightly, “Clara.”

He might’ve said more but I didn’t hear him as the glittering water in the trunk called to me. Yes, there was a lake in the trunk. I didn’t understand how it was possible only that the water whispered, “Come to me, I’ll tell you all you want to know, Clara Marie of Austria.”

Samhain’s Gift by Melania Tolan

My Review:

It’s Halloween and Mindy should have been celebrating with her friend Everly’s birthday but she can’t do that as her friend is dead. Mindy misses her so much so when her families grimoire shows up on her door step she starts browsing through the pages when she finds a spell for contacting the dead. What she finds after casting the spell is not what she thought it would be. Things take a turn for the worst and now her life is in danger.

Samhain’s Gift has magic and spells and the dead, spells to bring the dead back.

Sneak Peek:

I deciphered a few spells. One was for protection, another for ridding the house of fleas, another was for beautifying one’s face, and then one was for creating hot water without fire.

“This is crazy,” I said out loud. “I don’t have powers and I am no witch.”

I flipped the book halfway through and found a spell written in English. It was a love spell. I laughed ou loud as I read the ingredients. Rose petals, jasmine blossoms, chocolate shavings, a glass of red wind, a pinch of cinnamon, and one piece of hair of love interest. These ladies had been hardcore. I flipped two pages back and my blood chilled.

At the top of the page in bold red letters were written: Spell to commune with the dead.

Reactive by Helen Vivienne Fletcher

My Review:

When Toby first arrived at the school he thought learning magic was going to be fun until the day he overheard some of his teachers talking saying he was going to be the death of all of them.

Then a new student Callipe arrives at the school. She won’t talk to anyone and when she does it is real hateful like. Toby and Callipe are paired together in class and told they are to be partners and must work together. Toby is not sure how this is going to happen as she won’t even talk to him.

Reactive is filled with magic and wonderful characters that I would so love to get to know more of.

Sneak Peak:

So far, all I knew about Calliope was that she was weird and had anger issues. Well, that and she was apparently supposed to stop me becoming a threat to humanity. Probably not something I should lead with, but it sure sounded like us spending more time together was going to be worth everyone’s while.

I have honestly loved and enjoyed reading each of the stories in Realms of Magic. I loved the magic, spells, witches, dragons, unicorns, mermaids, mermen and mercorn. Each and every story brings something to the table for everyone that like stories like these with witches, magic, mermaids, unicorns plus a whole lot more. If you like stories like this then I would like to suggest that you one click yourself a copy today and join these wonderful characters on their journeys through the land of magic.

This book was amazing. Each one left me wanting to know more about each story.
These authors had me enthralled by the way the characters interacted with each other. I have read stories from Margo Ryerkerk and Ashley McLeo but none of the others. I now have new authors to check out.
I highly recommend this set of short stories.

A magical story collection by an amazingly talented group of authors! Become acquainted with these exemplary storytellers now. Below are reviews of just four of the enchanting tales in Realms of Magic.

A Marked Witch by Ashley McLeo
This is a short story from a great new series!

Eva and her three closest friends, including her boyfriend, Hunter, are doing a summer internship in Portland. They are each specializing in a different are of magic. Hunter is studying potions, Odette, warphole magic, and Alex, Odie’s boyfriend, medicine. Fortunately, they all had opportunities in the same place and can share a home.

This city makes Eva uneasy at the best of times. It was here, during her Samhain trial that she was injured by a greater demon. The scars have not responded to any treatment so far. They should be as healed as possible but have given her more pain since settling here. Her sleep is haunted by nightmares.

Eva’s mentor is unrivalled at recognizing magical signatures. It seems there is some unusual activity in the area. The runes they find in a local park are something neither has never seen before. They appear to be Fae but imbued by blood. What sort of Fae magic requires a blood sacrifice?

The strange runes are just the tip of the iceberg. It seems there is much more wrong in Portland than anyone might guess. Will Eva and her friends be able to weather the coming turmoil?

A Mystic’s Choice by Kelly N. Jane
A lovely dark tale of different realms. What would you do to bring back the love of your life?

The Fae, Sophia, dares travel through a dark realm to reach the human realm. There she hopes to find a necromancer to teach what she needs to raise her dead lover.

She didn’t foresee becoming a prisoner. After being tortured and questioned interminably, Sophia finds herself awakening in luxury. She is surprised to have attracted the attention of Eremon, the dark m’s overlord. She certainly never expected to return his feelings.

Will Sophia stay true to her cause, or will she fall into Eremon’s trap?

Water Lilies and Bones by Tamara Rokicki
A haunting, melancholic retelling of Japanese folklore. Tamara Rokicki does a masterful job!

Hisao wants nothing more than a true relationship with his love, Eiko. They were once engaged, but Eiko broke off the engagement with no explanation. She comes to him still in the darkness sometimes and stays until near morning. This is not enough for Hisao. He wants a marriage, family, children.

Hisao has tried to move on when Eiko’s absence becomes long. He has even tried to bar his door to her, but she always gets in. Eventually he began leaving his door unlocked. But he is not happy.

Thinking to ease his mind with the peacefulness of the water, he wanders the creek near his home. One day he observes another there. Airi seems so sad. She launches a paper boat and sets it upon the water to say goodbye to her lost love.

Hisao finds Airi charming, and they become friends. Soon he launches his own paper boat. Can Hisao move on from his old love that haunts his nights? Will these two broken people find a whole life together? Will Eiko be willing to give Hisao up?

Reactive by Helen Vivienne Fletcher
Quite a different story of magic users fueled by this author’s unique imagination. This is one you don’t want to miss!

A group of teens find themselves living at a most unusual school. A short time ago Zoe, Julianna, Elijah, Asher and Toby didn’t even believe that magic existed. Now they are expected to train to control their magic.

Some are having much more success than others. Toby can’t seem to get the hang of it. His best friend at the school, Zoe is having a lot more luck. Just when he thinks things cannot get worse, a new student, Calliope arrives. She seems frightened all the time and refuses to talk to the others.

Even more awkward, the students are paired and told that their magic is reactive and they must learn to work with their partners. Julianna and Zoe work well together. As do Asher and Elijah. Toby, the most inept of the group, is partnered with Calliope. How is Toby supposed to work with someone who won’t talk to him?

Adding to his discomfort, he overhears two of the instructors talking. It seems one of the students is destined to destroy their world, and one of the women has clearly decided it’s Toby. Her solution…eliminate him! Now he has a lot more to worry about than his poor performance. Will this new school be the death of him?

I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This review is for The Nutcracker Curse Prequel by Margo Ryerkerk as well as A Marked Witch by Ashley McCleo, since both of those ladies are kind enough to send me ARCs of their books! I do plan on reading the rest of the stories though! :)

In The Nutcracker Curse Prequel by Margo Ryerkerk, the story begins with Princess Clara's guard, Philip, sparring with his friend Moritz. Moritz tells Philip he needs to keep his distance from Clara because although they are best friends, Clara is the crown princess and he is a guard, so pursuing a closer relationship probably wouldn't be the best idea. If you've read The Nutcracker Curse, you know exactly where their relationship ends up :)

Anyway, Clara's father goes on a trip and leaves Clara in the care of many of the guards. Since Clara likes to do her own thing, she approaches Philip and tells him that she found a key her father has dropped. She wants to go down into the cellar and investigate to see what exactly the key opens... she desperately hopes its her deceased mother's trunk. Naturally, Philip doesn't think it's a good idea, but goes along with her anyway. Much to his chagrin, she brings her unicorn Biscuit along to help!

Philip and Clara find the trunk and open it. Inside the truck is sparkling water that when touched, transports them into another magical realm, where they become mermaids and Biscuit becomes a... um, mercorn. Turns out they were tricked by a mermaid named Atlantia, who wants their help getting her stolen mercorn back. Clara is determined to help her and again, Philip goes along with the plan although he is hesitant.

All in all, this was a very cute little story that showcases how much Philip cares for Clara!

*****

In A Marked Witch by Ashley McCleo, we are introduced to a witch named Eva and her partner, Alex, who are tracking down a demon during their Samhain Trial. They defeat that demon, but a more powerful demon (a succubus) shows up. The succubus attacks Eva before it is killed, permanently scarring her face. This whole instance turns out to be a dream, but it is a dream unfortunately based in reality, as this did actually happen to Eva!

Anyway, Eva is a student at Spellcasters Spy Academy and she is currently on summer break. She decides to take an internship with Master Exeter, who studies demons extensively. One day during training, they discover ancient ruins with a mysterious symbol on them. Turns out these ruins are being used to bring demons over, and Eva and her friends end up fighting a whole horde of demons! After the fight, Eva wonders if she has been marked by a demon.

I enjoyed this story very much, though I admit, I was a little confused because I haven't read the first book of the Spellcasters Spy Academy yet, and a lot of information was introduced very quickly! No matter though, because reading this story just makes me anxious to get into the series!

Review For Marked Magic by Ashley McLeo

Guys for fans of A Legacy Witch you need to get your hands on this short story in Eva's POV. It's going to be crucial for the following book in this series A Rebel Witch: Year Two....and plus how can you say no to more information in this world? Like derh.

Oh sorry did that come out a bit strongly? Oopsie my bad

For fans of this series though it's honestly a no brainer. For me, I really enjoyed reading this. First off it gives you a little bit more information on what happened during one of the trials that Alex and Eva went through. This short story isn't just about that per se though. It starts off with what goes down but it's from a nightmare. Poor Eva is not having as easy of a time with it as she shows in the first book after everything happens.

This short novella is during their internship, so between years at the moment. You learn a lot more about what is going on, like really important details. I don't want to say much on this coz its based all around that. But basically Eva and her mentor are looking into fae runes that are popping up around the place and the next spotted siting is slightly different by the fact that no blood is visible and also this time demons start literally popping up out of graves. That's enough to creep anyone out, right?

Then obviously the whole team you know all our other favourite characters? Hunter, Oddie and Alex? As if they couldn't not be in this...They find something very, very interesting down below the city and that's where stuff just goes from bad to worse...and because I'm evil I'm just going to leave it there. I can't give out all the secrets.

Well unless you read the book lol

One more super duper thing is revealed as well and because I can't be all mean...I'll drop a hint. It's about Eva's scars.

Okay that's it... before this starts happening.

I'm gonna lock that secrets vault now.

Just read the book because secrets are hard to keep and plus I know you'll love the book!

Can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. I feel like this would be me with the author.

Like this dude ⬆︎ it probably wouldn't work either haha.

Anyways book nerds thats all for today.

Happy Readings

This is a collection of 8 (mainly YA) short stories, all to do with different forms and settings of magic.
1. THE MARKED WITCH (ASHLEY MCLEO)
A story that fits in her Spy Academy series about student witches fighting with demons. The least interesting story of this collection, very average and boring in my opinion.
2. A MYSTIC'S CHOICE (KELLY N JANE)
In essence a dark love story. In order to get back to the human realm, Sophia must cross the Otherworld but she falls in love with their dark, dangerous and attractive king. An interesting story that makes you want to hear more.
3. THE DARK SEASON (JACI MILLER)
A truly frightening legend comes to life. At all hallows eve, when the veil between the world is at its thinnest, an evil hedgewitch crosses over and possess a 10-year-old girl. Her sister crosses over in the other direction to save the girl. A traditional folk tale in a modern dress. One of the stories I like best.
4. WATER LILLIES AND BONES (TAMARA ROKICKI)
A very sad but beautiful Japanese horror story.
5. THE NUTCRACKER CURSE PREQUEL (MARGO RYERKERK)
Clara Marie of Austria, who inherited a unicorn from her Irish mother, encounters and befriends a mermaid. A rather naive but pleasant fairy tale even if you're not into mermaids. (I'm not)
6. BLESSED WITH A CURSE (KATIE CHERRY)
Paige accidentally frees the Greek demigod Nikandros and proves an ancient legend true. This and her magic cause an all-out war between the gods. A simple love story with a bit of humour.
7. SAMHAIN'S GIFT (MELANIA TOLAN)
Mindy believes her best friend to be death. But then she discovers on the same day not only that this isn't true, but as well that she's in fact, a witch. This is for me one of the best stories of this book. There's an interesting cast of characters: an elf, a dragon, shapeshifters, witches, ... I love to find out how this plays out.
8. REACTIVE (HELEN VIVIENNE FLETCHER)
A magic school gets a new student who claims she doesn't possess any magic and is paired with the kid that also has little or no abilities. 1 of my favourite stories. Even though the story is finished, it would be interesting to find out what happens to those children from then on, or how they all came to this strange school.
I received a free ARC from 1 of the authors and this is my honest review.

An Utterly Entertaining Set Of Reads!!🌟🎉👑🌙🌹
Realms of Magic: A Spellcasters Short Story Collection

A Marked Witch by Ashley McLeo
A Mystic's Choice by Kelly N. Jane
The Dark Season by Jaci Miller
Water Lilies and Bones by Tamara Rockiki
The Nutcracker Curse Prequel by Margo Ryerkerk
Blessed with a Curse by Katie Cherry
Samhain's Gift by Melania Tolan
Reactive by Helen Vivienne Fletcher

I really enjoyed nearly every story in this box set!😍 I especially enjoyed the following:
'A Marked Witch: 'Spellcasters Spy Academy #1.5'. You can read it without reading 'A Legacy Witch #1' first but it would really enhance your experience of you had 😉 It's an exciting & nerve wracking read. When four friends, on their summer internships, come face to face with some of their worst nightmares & lives are put on the line!!😳😢

The Nutcracker Curse Prequel was a wonderful look back at Clara & Phillip prior to the exciting, adventurous & romantic main story!😍 In this story, Princess Clara, as headstrong as ever, jumps feet first into chasing information about her deceased Mother! Things aren't what she thought & with Phillip and Biscuit - her unicorn - at her side, she delves in to solving the task in front of her!!👑🙏🌊

A Dark Season was creepy!😳 It was about two orphaned sisters, one older than other, so able to step into the parental role. They're Hedge Witches & it's nearly All Hallows Eve when the veil between our world & the afterlife things so hedge witches can jump through to visit lost loved ones & vice versa. It's also when the legend of the cursed Haeg can return!!🙈😱😢

These aren't the only three good & entertaining stories, I'm just trying to give a well rounded taste of the box set!!🌟

This is a lovely collection of authors with beautifully written short tales. The Nutcracker Curse Prequel by Margo Ryerkerk is a great addition to this collection. The author did an amazing job building this world, its characters, and storyline. Princess Clara is head strong and leaps head-first into danger which almost cost her the loss of something near and dear. Her guard Philip, whom is secretly in love with her, continuously finds himself in compromising situations every time they’re together. As Clara hunts for a keepsake of her mother’s she is sucked through a portal to merworld where she meets Princess Alantia and agrees to help save the Princess’s sea unicorn, Fabian. Clara’s cunning quick wit is all that stands between Prince Reuben, the unicorn thief, and her safe return home. This was a great beginning and I look forward to reading more of this series.

A Marked Witch by Ashley Mcleo is another great story in this collection. I really enjoyed this short quick read. It has a great storyline and characters. Eva, scarred during a job, must find a way to over-come her fears to help stop the influx of demons escaping into the human world. Unfortunately, her time for recovery just got cut short as she finds herself and friends on the front line battling powerful demons.

This wonderful collection is full of mysteries, adventure, action and suspense you don’t want to miss. You should definitely get this box set you won't regret it.

After reading this anthology, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the stories. This is a creative anthology from variety of different authors with a spellcasting, witchy, Halloween theme.

All the stories were well written and unique. We read a compilation of different writing styles and different takes on magic and witchcraft, with a diverse case of characters and their unique problems. Each of the stories is creative and diverse in its own way. We see an underwater adventure, a magic academy, a thrilling Japanese story, dark legends coming to life, a demigod and a fight against Zeus, mixed with some clean love stories and dark, Halloween-ish themes. As we approach October, it’s definitely a great seasonal read to get your Halloween spirit going.

I can’t say enough, these are all very well written, and introduces you to a variety of new authors you may not have known of before, some hidden gems, or the start of something great! I highly recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy and magic, and are ready for a heart-pounding roller coaster ride on the tracks these eight authors provide.

ONE OUTSTANDING COLLECTION!!!
Freaking fantastic! This bad boy showcases 100% on point accuracy, kicking up a spinning vortex chocked-full of surprising events and unexpected activities that keep you flipping page after page. Sparks fly as drama and suspense ensues in epic proportions. Non-stop action, heart pounding, pulse racing, hard hitting wonder welds all the pieces together brilliantly. All the trials and tribulations propel those swirling emotions bursting into play smoothly. Mesmerizing storylines and gripping plots launch this bad boy blazing to life beautifully. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and traits that rock this baby to its core. The scenes are so colorfully descriptive, it paints the most majestic backgrounds that gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Fantastic job guys, thanks for sharing this amazing anthology with us.

An enchanting collection of short stories. Very well written by all of the authors involved. I did not like one of the stories, but that was personal preference. The writing was very good throughout.

I especially liked A Marked Witch by Ashley McLeo – already having read the first book in the Spellcasters Spy Academy series. Reading Eva’s story tied in nicely with the flow.

Several of the stories I’ve already looked for the series because they were very intriguing. Each author has their own style, but the collection works very well as a whole. From the spy academy, to an underwater adventure, to a witch’s quest to save her sister, to a fight against the ancient gods, and more. The stories stand alone, but leave the reader wondering what happens next. The mark of a good story!

I love Jaci Miller and so I couldn't wait to read her story first! I'll go back and read the others and review those as well.

First Jaci stays true to her roots in fantasy but she changes up the magic in this one and I love it! She captures your interest int he prologue and does a wonderful job on introducing you to all the players right off the bat and you can't help but fall in love with the whole family. Jaci draws you in with a love story, family history and the danger that awaits.
This story was so beautifully written and flows smoothly. What got me was how it ended! This story ended in such a way that I not only want to read more, I NEED to know how the story continues!!!

This review is for only A marked Witch by Ashley McLeo.
Well let's start off with saying why did I read that, I hope you are writing more cause I need to know how that ends. Other than that, I loved that this was about Evanora. So in A Legacy Witch Evanora goes through some traumatic stuff and now I know how it effects her. It is a bit scary to be out in the field and get tangles up in some evil stuff. Luckily for her she has Hunter, Odette and Alex. They help her when she needs it.
I definitely need the rest of this book. I love the characters and the intense moments cause you have no idea how it will play out.

Nice collection of short stories that will whet your appetite to read the series they are connected to.

The Nutcracker Curse Prequel by Margo Ryerkerk

Philip is the guard to Princess Clara and has been warned that he needs to remember his place and keep his distance from her even though they are best friends. This tells of a fantastical tale from when he goe along with Clara on a strange odyssey into a magical realm to help a mermaid via a key and an old trunk.

This story certainly helps me understand the relationship between Philip and Clara in the main series but is also a little off the wall and strange. It is however well written and easy to understand.

I received a copy of this for an honest review.

A Marked Witch, short story by Ashley McLeo is as great as the rest of her books, especially given that it leaves you hungry for more! Can't wait to delve into more of the Spellcasters Spy Academy Series to see where this takes us next for Odette, Eva, Hunter and Alex.

The others books in this set are great starters to what promises to be great books and/or series for the respective authors. Looking forward to looking up some old and some new authors for more stories 😁

I received an ARC. This is my honest opinion. I have enjoyed Margo’s works in the past & was excited to read a prequel of the Nutcracker’s Curse as well as getting to check out some new stories. Clara finds herself turned into a mermaid & Biscuit a mercorn. It’s a cute story showing Clara’s kind heart. A Marked Witch is one that I felt I needed to read more to fully comprehend what was going on, but still a cool story. Definitely worth reading this collection of stories.

A great collection of supernatural shorts.

My favorite was by Ashley Mcleo, not surprising considering she is one of my favorite authors, this prelude into the world of Spellcasters was just awesome, it gave me a taste of what's to come. Eve, Hunter, Alex and Odette, magical friends who work amazingly together I can't wait to see how they grow.
I loved the time spent with mentors and learning how magic works in this new world and I seriously can't wait for more.

I just read the start of this book because I liked Ashley McLeo”s “A Legacy Witch” book and the first story in this collection is a follow up to what the main characters are up to during their internships. It’s a good quick read that gives you a taste of what’s to come in the follow up story ( hopefully coming soon). It’s told from Eva’s perspective which makes it interesting. Glad to see the foursome still at it.
Looking forward to reading the other stories in this collection.

*** This contains several seperate stories. I will update my review as I read them. ***

Perfect to get in the Halloween mood!
I'm excited to dive into the rest of the stories.

A MARKED WITCH
Great companion story to A Legacy Witch. You won't be lost reading this by itself though. It was fun to see life through another character's perspective. Definitely left me wanting more of the Spellcasters Spy Academy crew!

Magic, Mysteries, and Legends
It has been a while since I have indulged in fantasy but this one was simply amazing. It is a group of stories by some very talented writers. Each story was engaging with outstanding characters. If you looking for a book with a wonderful bit of magic this book will be right up your alley! Enjoy! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I enjoy these kinds of collections. They introduce me to new authors and often feature some of my favorites as well like Margo Ryerkerk.

The stories are well written and give you quite a diverse set of characters and situations. I love the variety of supernatural characters. Some of the storylines continue in other books. I recommend you check it out.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

An intriguing and entertaining collection of stories with everything from magic to unicorns, mermaids, and much more! Each story pulled me in from start to finish and I will definately be looking into reading more from each of these authors! Also most of the stories are based around Halloween or Samhain, which made it even more appealing to me.

This was worth the read for the variety it held! I didn't particularly love the stories, but I did find the concepts interesting. My faves for the writing were the last two, conceptwise, 3 and 4 stood out as creepy but interesting. Most had one thing or another that I liked.

I received a free copy of the book and am leaving a review voluntarily.
