He was there for her first steps, for her first day of school. He helped her with her homework, and took her for ice cream at the weekends. And then, two days before her ninth birthday, Martha’s father wa

Sometimes you look at a title after reading a book and wonder where the title ‘fits in’, this one is 100% right!!
Martha lives with her Mum Fran in a remote area of Cornwall, very cut off, very private and for Martha quite restrictive

Fantastic storyline. It progressed at a fast pace and had the feeling of a really tense and dark psychological thriller. I actually guessed the big twist around half way through and marvelled that I’d guessed such a fabulous twist! This didn’t spoil the story for me at all! A couple of other bits I guessed correctly to but as I progressed through the book I loved picking up all the little clues as the story continued and seeing I was correct.

Not only is this now my favourite Rona Halsall novel,

Martha’s world pretty much hits rock bottom in more ways than one. Sadly things are about to get even worse.

My heart went out to Martha. The relationship she has with her mother is almost suffocating. In a way it’s like Martha is the adult and her mother is the daughter. She has had to put her life on hold to a certain extent and is having to forgo a lot of things that she wants to do to look after Fran.

This is a story steeped with lies and revelations. Boy when those rev

I was really looking forward to reading this latest book by Rona Halsall as I really enjoyed ‘The Honeymoon’ earlier this year. However, I’m afraid this was nowhere near as enthralling.
I almost gave up on it (at my cut off point of 25%) as it was just such a slow start. However, I read the other reviews on NetGalley and was assured it was worth sticking with for the twists at the end. So I did stick with it.
The reviewers were correct; the twists are brilliant, shocking, and everythin

Her Mother's Lies is a fast and twisty read that starts off with a bang and keeps the momentum throughout the book.

Martha, Fran, Izzie and Anna take centre stage in this psychological thriller that explores the lengths a mother will go to save her children. As the book progressed, I was able to figure out most of the major twists before they happened, but the quick pace of the book kept me engaged and it was satisfying figuring them out!

Yet another outstanding book by Rona Halsall! Her Mother's Lies is fast-paced, gripping, and utterly intriguing. Full of twists and characters that draw you in. I stayed up reading this book more times than I can count, desperate to finish just one more page.

I found this book to be slow to start with me, and I have learnt that I like a book to hook me from that first page, I want it to be fast paced, but once I started through a few chapters, the pace picked up a bit. So many secrets and so many lies.

I couldn’t feel sorry for some of the characters, because they had ruined lives, through lies. The one person I actually felt for was Martha, because her life dramatically changed, her father Greg had left when she was 9, she hadn’t seen or

Ah... What can I say about this book that would better describe it. There were just 3 words I was left behind with... Suspense, pathos and senseless deaths.

All the characters in the book were stuck in the different sections of the web that the author Rona Halsall had caught them in. If only they had communicated better, they could have escaped the trap that she had put them in.

The main characters mother Fran, a graphic designer and an alcoholic diabetic prone to go into c

Want a book to read a few chapters at a time? This is not it. Want a page turning, thrilling book to get totally involved in? This is absolutely it.

Martha is twenty four years old and her life is about to change completely as everything she thinks she knows begins to disintegrate. Living on the bread line with her alcoholic mother in rural Cornwall wasn't how she imagined things would be when a new future was opened up before her only to be cruelly snatched away by situations far bey

I received a free copy of HER MOTHER’S LIES by Rona Halsall in exchange for an honest review. Martha feels trapped. Her mother is a shut-in alcoholic who frequently steals what little money Martha makes to buy more booze. Martha wants a better life, but her controlling mother Fran thwarts any attempts Martha has to educate, to otherwise better herself, or to escape their isolated village. When Martha unexpectedly loses her job, her mother goes on a bender and ends up comatose in the hospital. No ...more

Wow, what a book!!!!! This was my first book by this author and it sure did not disappoint.

This book was about a young woman trying to figure out who she was. Martha was told a man named Greg was her father all her life but that was a lie. There were many lies told to her by her mom. Martha had to find the courage to face these lies and her mother in order for her to find the real truth about herself.

I want to start off by saying that the book did start off very slow and you might not like Mar

My second Rona Halsall book and I'm happy to report that this is as good as what's gone before.
Her Mother's lies tells the story of three Mothers all with something to hide from there children that they will stop at nothing to hide the truth and keep a child safe.
The story starts with Martha going to visit her Father for the first time since he left mysteriously 15 years before and from this moment onwards the book never lets up, the lies and betrayal just keep c

Wow wow wow!! Rona has done it again! I recieved this book via Netgalley and had been so excited to start from the moment it was on my kindle. It was definitely worth the wait. I was hooked from the first page! This book gave me a whole mixture of emotions. Sadness, frustration, happiness. I admit, there were a few tears.

The story starts with Martha turning up at her estranged fathers house. The book instantly grips you in as the visit takes an unexpected turn. The story then goes ba

My first book by Rona and I was not disappointed! Martha’s mother has been lying to her her whole life - she quickly discovers that the man she grew up knowing as Dad was not in fact her father. It is with this discovery that Martha’s life takes a turn and she begins to question more about her past. What is truth and what was lies? Her Mother's Lies is a book that grabs you from the first chapter to The End.

One lie can snowball. That lie will look like a shattered windshield by the time the lies keep multiplying.

Martha , who at times I wanted to shake and ended up feeling so sorry for her is at the beginning of the lie.

This book has lies, secrets which is not the same as lies, murder and one mixed up family.

Twists and turns keep you turning the pages quickly. I knew I had figured out on

It's been a long time since I have read a book that has made me feel utterly gobsmacked. If life hadn't been in the way, I could easily have read Her Mother's Lies in one sitting, it was unputdownable.

The story covers several topics and alternates POVs between Martha and her mother Fran but also with the past and the present. This has been written so cleverly, like an intricate lie; just when you think all has been revealed another twist is thrown in and all of your suspicions go out the window

A fantastic fast paced psychological / domestic thriller with plenty of clever twists.

Martha is in what seems to be a happy relationship and is a mother to Fran. That until one day the father disappears without any explanation.

Years later Martha sets out to confront the father and set the record straight for once and for all. But is she really ready to face the brutal truth? Read to find out how this addictive thriller comes to a climatic end.

Fifteen years after her father left with no warning, Martha searches him out only to find he is not her real father and that her mother has kept secrets from her for her entire life. I didn't really enjoy this. None of the characters were likable, the dialogue felt forced (especially between Martha and Izzy), and I was not really surprised by any of the twists. I mostly kept reading just to be done with it. Two stars, because the story itself was interesting - I just didn't like the writing, and ...more
