Cabin Fever #1

Stay the Night

Rate this book
Franklin Theling is on the run. As he’s chased into the woods, he stumbles on to a cabin that seems a safe enough place to hide for a while and warm his numbing limbs...that is, until he meets the cabin’s owner...

Bradley Jones is a mountain man by all definitions. All he needs in life are his books, his writings, and a warm fire. Or at least he thought so, until a strange man came stumbling into his sanctuary.

Stay the Night is the first novella in the Cabin Fever collection.

Stay the Night is the first novella in the Cabin Fever series by H.Q. Kingsley. This is a M/M romance by a new to me author.

Franklin Theling may have made a lot of mistakes in his life but he’s been trying to do better. But with his past, when the police began chasing him, he ran. It was ingrained into him to run. He’s exhausted and cold running through the woods when he comes upon a cabin. He needs a place to get warm and hide for awhile so he lets himself in. It isn’t long before he’s faced with a very angry and also very beautiful man, demanding to know what he’s doing in his home.

mountain cabin

Bradley Jones is a reclusive man who loves his life in his little cabin in the woods. He spends his time reading, writing, and just enjoying the solitude. But then Franky showed up and all of a sudden, Bradley didn’t want to be by himself any longer.

There was instant chemistry between these two. But Franky needed to face whatever was going on with the police. Could they take the chance that Franky may never be cleared and able to return to Bradley?

What attracted me to this book was the cover. I love the M/M trope and the mountain cabin in the snow was beautiful. But I’m afraid that the book itself didn’t work out as well. I judge my rating of a book a lot in how it made me feel. And this didn’t make me feel anything. No tingles. No swooning. No butterflies. I’m not giving up on this author yet, though. She has a new book out that, same as this one, the cover has captured me. So I’m going to give that a try to see if things go any better.

I'm sorry, but that was probably the most cringe worthy example of instant love I've read in recent history. Even the sex scenes were corny and over the top unbelievable.
Gets an extra star for promoting positive thinking (even if most of the time it was unrealistically positive). That's something, I guess.

I think that with a bit more patience this could have been a great read, because the premises are all there.

To me it felt like the author wanted to pack too much into a short story and missed writing a believable development of the relationship between Franklin and Bradley. For example, just a few hours after they've known each other, Bradley goes to the police and gives a fake alibi for Frank. I mean,REALLY?

That, and a few other things, took the shine out of a story that had a lot of potential.

This was my first book from Karma Kingsley and I enjoyed the short story between Franklin and Bradley. There wasn't a lot of relationship development between the two men, especially after the circumstances where they meet, but both characters are wonderful and you can see the start of a great relationship between the two. Bradley in his gruff, antisocial way and Franklin with his curiosity. A good short read!

This book is pure hot steamy man love. Bradley and Franky balance one another completely, Bradley seems to be a quiet broody type, where as Franklin is a mouthy nosey man who doesn't know when to shut up. The love they find with each other starts to heal their respective relationships with their families after losing contact with them. Its a book i would read again and again ❤

A good book, the author seemed to fit a lot of stuff into the book without it feeling rushed. 3½ stars
