It is a widely held belief in the Western world that our sexual problems are a product of our essentially Christian moral tradition and by simply reflecting the moral values of our predecessors we should escape the repression and sense of guilt which are their cause. The truth of the matter is, however, that our heritage cannot be shrugged off by a mere act of will. If we are to overcome our present problems we need to explore the origins of the value system which spawned them.
