An easy 5 stars for the magnificent second installment in the Maggie Dupont series. I love Maggie she is not your typical protagonist. The author doesn't shy away from social stereotypes, Maggie is Gay yes, shes with Sally and that's it. And that comes across and is done perfectly this does not define her she is a great character. Strong, resilient, resourceful, fun and caring. I love the diversity. Maggie and Sally's relationship has grown a lot in this second book and they are stronger and ...more

She's done it again. With this thriller, Helen Pryke proves yet again that she is a master storyteller, a word magician, an emotion conveyor par exellence.

The plot is fast paced and will keep you hooked, because you absolutely want to know what's going to happen, while biting your nails in fear of what's coming next. The story is gritty, especially the passages told from the antagonist's point of view. No nonsense, no remorse, no sparing of the reader's feelings - you will have to live through

You must have read book one in the series (The Lost Girls) before you read this book, the second in the series featuring Maggie and Sally. Maggie is a journalist but we know her flaws - and she's not another drug-taking drunk journalist cliche - and her passions (sometimes these are the same thing). She is human and gets scared - the scene where she gets trapped in a lift (not a spoiler, don't worry!) had my heart pounding as this is one of my greatest fears too. Sally, Maggie's girlfriend, is a ...more

Maggie Dupont is back and I’m so glad to see her return in Shadows from the past as I loved her so much in The Lost Girls. Although both books follow a different story it’s nice to see how Maggie and Sally’s relationship has grown. Especially when it comes under stress as events from the past catch up with them. Author Helen Pryke has brought her trademark storytelling skills and as always added a fantastic setting, the little details such as the ferry crossing bring it to life. Add in to the ...more

I would like to thank the Fiction Care Review and the publishers for a ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

WOW another great read. I recommend that you read the Helen first Book Lost Girls before you read this one, as there are several references to the previous story and there is an assumption throughout that you know who each of the characters mentioned are. This book was fast paced and kept my interest till the end.
A perfectly paced supense/thriller that keeps you hanging on right

After a very successful first book in the Maggie Dupont series, Shadows from the Past was simply a must-read for me. We meet Maggie again, in a very difficult moment in her life when she must not only face her stalker but also prevent the villain from hurting people in the town. She is forced to confront her past, which she would rather forget and live her present life, attempting to sort things out and find her way to happiness. I'm not going to reveal too much of the plot to you, so that you ...more

After reading the first book in this series (The Lost Girls 5) I was very excited to see this sequel - although slightly nervous knowing the first book would be a hard act to follow!
You definitely have to read the other book before this one, as there are several references to the previous story and there is an assumption throughout that you know who each of the characters mentioned are.
I enjoyed this story, it moved forward at a reasonable pace, I like the main characters and I wanted to find

I was a bit sceptical when I started this book as I enjoyed book 1 (the lost girls) so much and I read it so quick. This one took slightly longer to grab hold of me by the collar but once it did I was a goner. Absolutely loved it and really enjoyed getting to know Maggie a bit more. Its refreshing to see a story like this through a journalists point of view rather than just through the police procedures. I was a little disappointed to not see more of Chloe and Mike through this and them ...more

So I read lost girls and was hooked! You have to read the first book in order to understand this one as the characters from the first play a big part in this one.

My review -

I did enjoy this book - again I read in a very quick sitting. The story hooked me in and I thought I knew what the outcome would be, this turned out incorrect and slightly unbelievable

However. I really did enjoy the story and would love to read the next installment or more of her series. I love Maggie and Sally. I'm unsure if

After reading and enjoying the first book in the Maggie Dupont series I was really looking forward to reading this second instalment, not only to catch up with the characters and see how they have moved on from their ordeals but also to see if Helen could match the suspense and grit from the first book. I was not disappointed. Although a different story there are several references to the first book so it’s recommended to read that one first.
This was another great story full of suspense. A few

Another fantastic book from Helen Pryke!
I loved the lost girls so was a little worried this one wouldn't live up to it, I needn't have worried! It had me gripped, it had me guessing and it had me up until the early hours of the morning having to know how it ended! Love Maggie so im glad we got to see more of her in this book and delve deeper into her relationship with Sally. I'm hoping the end was a hint towards a third book because I'll definitely be reading it! Thankyou Helen Pryke for another

We Know Why, And The Identity of Who Becomes Clear

Nicely done revenge-mayhem tale with Maggie the ultimate target of the deranged sibling of a hooligan who had been imprisoned for more than a decade as a result of Maggie’s investigative reporting.

Despite the mayhem, I found this entry easier to read than the prior book.

I was so excited to see that there was a second book in this series as I loved The Lost Girls so much. This book did not disappoint! It was great to pick back up with Maggie and Sally, and see some other familiar faces in there too. The suspense within had me on the edge of my seat and I kept second guessing myself on who was after Maggie. Great book!
