Fantastic ending to the duology! This second book takes a turn for the Shakespearean, with dark twists and turns that reminded me of Macbeth and Hamlet. The moments of darkness are nicely balanced with light and hope, and Burke delivers a fully satisfying ending. Great job!

Prince of Stars, Son of Fate

This book is the second of a duology, the first being Daughter of Sun, Bride of Ice. There’s enough recap in the beginning of this book to catch you up if you didn’t read the first one, but I strongly suggest reading the first one anyway. (It's too good to skip over!)

If this review is vague, it’s to avoid spoiling the first book for those who haven’t read it but who are reading this review. Daughter of Sun was a great book in itself, but it really sets the stage for

The first thing I want to say is give Olyn his own story. I want to be the woman who may become his wife.

Nothing in this story happens the way I thought it would. There were so many twists and turns, it made my head spin, but I enjoy it. This story is everything that I as a reader want to experience when I open a book; action, adventure, romance, evil villain and an amazing hero and heroine. Prince of Stars, Son of Fate had all of that plus more. The good characters had flaws and fears they had

Oh my gosh I loved this story even better than the first book. The world building is phenomenal, the characters are adorable and I am even more #teamkajik in this story than in book one. Sassy cinnamon roll who has issues believing he is worth ANYTHING. (Evyd needs to drop dead, seriously) also, Arynne is such fun, and Olyn is such a sweet squishy. And Clindt, I love that you are a good dad and a good hubby and you CARE. Anyway. You definitely need this immediately following book 1, because you ...more

4.5 stars for an action-packed second half of this interesting duology. The characters have many deep layers, and some of them are icky! I did enjoy watching the growth of the main characters, though Olyn was my favorite in this half of the story. I empathized more with Kajik and came to appreciate Arynne much more in this book. There are definitely more than one antagonists to dislike vehemently!

Overall, an imaginative fantasy with magic and lots of emotions, both positive and negative.

The first one to this duo was great. Then I read this. BLOWN AWAY! That's me. More intensity, more action, more of everything that makes a story roll along at a breakneck speed. I admit I wept as I read in some spots, unable to put it down, praying for hope. Burke delivers a wild ride! I highly recommend this set to all who like a fantasy beyond the worlds and a love that goes beyond death.

I've read a good handful of H.L. Burke books at this point, and I think Kay is my favorite character of hers thus far.

I don't know if it makes sense to say that this duology is a comfortable read, but I don't know how else to describe it. It's just a cozy book that you can get swept up in and just enjoy the ride. I read this book in two days and enjoyed the whole thing.

The romance is sweet. The brotherly relationship is sweet. The love-to-hate villains are awful and I wanted to punch them in

Prince of Stars, Son of Fate is an emotional rollercoaster. It is also a sequel to Daughter of sun Bride of Ice, please read DOSBOI first or the emotional ride will be derailed.

This book focuses on Kay, the unwanted second son of most evil father ever written. Seriously, Vader is a good parent by comparison.

Poor Kay is in a bad place, to the point where the main villain tries to talk him into suicide and he almost considers it. But Kay is made of stronger stuff and he also has the love of a

A good finish to the duology and a good book in its own right (though I wouldn't recommend reading it if you haven't read the first book first). I know some people are surprised at how willing Arynne was to kill Evyd, and I understand where they're coming from . . . but also, there were multiple points at which I was like "Give me a portal so I can cut this dragon-kissed toad's heart out with a rusty spoon," so I think it might be a personality thing. (Also, regarding her actions near the end: ...more

This is book two. You will need to read book one of this will not make a lick of sense. Don't worry. Book one is great. It won't be a hardship.
Now for spoilers:

I had a hard time like Arynne in this story. I didn't care for her easy transition from spoiled princess to murderous maven. I know the dark magic had something to do with it but not very much based on her lack of empathy later in the story. I just didn't like her. I kept waiting for her to learn and grown and it never really happened.

This book had me hooked the whole time; I read it in one sitting so that's a good sign. I struggled to connect to Arynne a little because of some of her decisions... I may have had too high of expectations for this book. I really enjoyed the first one, but thematically there were a couple things that were a bit of a turn off. That said, I was glad to have a conclusion to book one, and would read the sequel if it were about Prince Olyn finding a bride. Overall, the book was enjoyable. I tend to ...more

I'm waffling with the rating on this one: 3 or 4 stars? I didn't love it, but I did love the epilogue. (I'm a sucker for epilogues, especially those that show a snapshot of life years after the main book.) And it honestly wasn't that bad of a story... it just somehow didn't click for me. I struggled to get invested in the characters and the climax. Again, feeling bad because I can't come up with a solid reason why.

So, good book/duology. Clear stakes, interesting moral dilemmas, and solid

The second and last book of the Ice & Fate Duology picked up the story almost exactly where it was left off in the first. It takes no time for the suspense to start building! The selfless sacrifice and love make my favorite character (no names or spoilers, read the book ) like a Han Solo for me—the unlikely hero. I loved the ending! It wrapped itself up beautifully! Just a warning though, this book was much harder to put down that the first! ...more

A tad darker than the first book, but I loved seeing how everything came together. Here's my full video review on whichever platform you prefer :)

So good! Everything I want to say is spoilery. Also, I should have been in bed two hours ago and am not thinking very clearly. Which should tell you something; but really, I do this on a regular basis even for mediocre books :P So I'll just say it's a wonderful conclusion and let you work the rest out yourself. Still don't have my catowl though :( ;)

So satisfying. I mean, things were pretty intense and terrible for the poor characters there for a while, but... *contented sigh* This world and the magic is so cool. And I ship it so hard. XD <3

Definitely recommend this duology.

Perfect conclusion

A page-turning adventure, even though everything happened in one city. Excellent exploration of mental/emotional health and how it affects us in our ability to do our calling. Loved the characters.

Fun duo

Great fight scenes. Lots of intense love and sacrifice. Pets with purpose. I enjoyed it all. The second book was a good ending to a great beginning.

This part of this duology did not disappoint. I did not expect the lengths to which the protagonists would have to go to fulfill their destinies. When an engagement goes wrong, all sorts of other wrong things follow. H.L. Burke ran all the characters through several very thorough ringers and ... spoilers ahead.

... showed that true love can conquer mysterious illness, torture, near-death, and then roar back to win the day. It's not so much what had to be conquered as much as the way it was done

Born in a small town in north central Oregon, H. L. Burke spent most of her childhood around trees and farm animals and was always accompanied by a book. Growing up with epic heroes from Middle Earth and Narnia keeping her company, she also became an incurable romantic.

An addictive personality, she jumped from one fandom to another, being at times completely obsessed with various books, movies,
