Darcy and her two sons, six-year old, Kane and ten- year old Harrison had suffered tragic circumstances, with the death of her husband and father, Joel to cancer. Darcy had a breakdown, and in the interim, her family stepped up to the plate to take temporary custody of her children, until she was fit to look after them. They included her parents Brenda and Leonard, and sister Steph and husband Dave.
But now Darcy has recovered from her breakdown and now has custody of her children again.
This novel focuses upon a single mum, Darcy when her youngest six-year-old son, Kane suddenly falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, after suffering an asthma attack. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life.
George is a single parent too, a father to a six-year old daughter, Romy. George is a good-looking, charming, and successful as a consultant surgeon in Urology at the City Hospital. George has a housekeeper, Maria who is very close to Romy, and has formed a special bond with his daughter.
After the accident Darcy is very indebted to George for saving her son’s life. Darcy is interested in George, and makes a move on him. Thinks move quickly, and a relationship develops quickly. When George invites her to move into his beautiful home with its sprawling garden for her boys, Darcy doesn’t hesitate.
But as Darcy is settling in, she receives a bunch of flowers with a chilling message. George says they’re from an obsessed ex-girlfriend, Opal, and days later Opal turns up at Darcy’s son’s football match. She claims to have shocking information that could threaten George’s custody of his daughter.
Who can Darcy trust? So many thoughts are going through her head! She is starting to suspect that, whatever the truth, she might have put her boys into terrible danger…
This one does not disappoint and has an interesting twist at the end.
This is a fast-paced book full of action, flawed characters with some situations a little far- fetched but makes for an excellent read.
