"Latinx trans teen boy, hoping to release his cousin's spirit and prove himself as a brujo, accidentally summons the wrong ghost and ends up falling in love with him"...............this honestly sounds like everything i've ever needed in my life, 2020 already serving us
I think 2020 should be renamed 20TRANSty just because of this book and all the #ownvoices transgender umbrella releases coming up.

I need, I need, I need, I need. After 22 years I’m finally out and queer and dating my hispanic girlfriend (im very lucky) and I think we would both sell our souls for an arc of this?

Julian stopped in his tracks, black eyes going wide. “Fuck.”
Maritza started and Yadriel ducked, thinking he’d spotted someone. His heart hammered in his chest. “What—What’s—?”
“What happened to my skateboard?” Julian threw his head back and groaned, scrubbing his hands over his face. “I just got new axles on that thing!”

I was provided an advanced copy of this novel by Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

I’ve been anticipating this book for at least 6 months and I thought I knew what to expect, but I was not prepared to be so moved by a book about a stubborn ghost!! I laughed, I cried (multiple times, wtf), & I had a big dumb idiot smile plastered on my face while reading the majority of this book. Yadriel’s journey to prove himself to his family and demand to be seen was incredibly powerful and written with so much care & honesty.

I don’t know if I’ve ever read a book that so richly

Both the cover and the plot scream "perfection".

Bring me back from the dead when it comes out. (Or save me the trouble and send me an ARC).

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book and I am happy to report that they are all true!

“Cemetery Boys” tells the story of Yadriel who is desperate to prove to his family that he is worthy of being a Brujo despite their belief in the old ways and when he crosses paths with a recently deceased he believes it proves his worth to the saints but as the mystery unravels behind Julian’s death Yadriel must uncover the truth behind the missing kids and stop a monster before it’s too late.

What you will get: amazing characters, a good world building that was full of details yet not confusing, funny dialogues, deep conversations, cute ghosts, the found family trope.

Here we have it, the first book of 2020 that have made it on my list of favorite books of all time! This book was just so cool and funny and full of loveable characters, and just so WHOLESOME. It is not a perfect book: the writing can sometimes be slightly repetitive, and I did guess the plot twist, but that didn’t

I've just finished Cemetery Boys and it's one of the best book I've read in a long time. I loved reading about Yadriel's world and the story is amazing, full of brilliant characters I couldn't not fall in love with. Yadriel, Julian and Maritza have my heart and I'd die for them.
This book is so beautiful and intense and I loved how the author talked about important issues and the characters are so beautifully brimming with life and energy it was impossible not loving them. Thank you for this

#OwnVoices author alert!

What an amazing story.

Yadriel has always known he was meant to be a brujo (and a boy) but none of the other brujx (including his father) believe he will be blessed by Lady Death to truly be recognized as one. Taking matters into his own hands, Yadriel gains Lady Death’s blessing but while doing so stumbles across the spirit of Julian. While trying to uncover the mystery of how Julian

I was incredibly lucky to be able to read early galleys of this book and I loved it! Yadriel and Julian are such compelling characters and watching their relationship unfold was a joy. The magical system is a beautiful homage to the author's Latinx heritage, and it serves perfectly to illustrate the ways that cultural traditions can evolve and support all those they encompass instead of being used as an excuse to exclude those who don't fit neatly into the mold. Yadriel's love for his family and ...more

I've been looking forward to this book for a pretty long time. So much so, that after I had surgery (I'm fine!) I went on Twitter to freak out about it being on Edelweiss. My mom was trying to get me into the car, after a long day of being stressed about me, and all I wanted to talk about was how I'm super excited for this book and how I could download it. Ah, I crack myself up sometimes. Anyway, the point is, I was very much looking forward to this book. A book with a trans main

The perfect read. I had the joy of reading an early edition and from start to finish my heart was filled with love for Yadriel, Julian, and Maritza. Yads is an absolutely wonderful hero, his journey of growth within himself, his magic, and within his community taking center stage. Julian is a wildly beautiful storm of chaos who dominates every page he's on. You'll be falling for his ghost, too. And Maritza, my queen, an absolute delight to round off a stunning cast. As a trans nonbinary person I ...more

What can I say about this book? So many feelings and emotions rushed to the surface as I was reading this FANTASTIC novel. Yadriel is part of the Brujx community, wanting to prove that he IS a brujo. His determination shined throughout the entire story. Throughout the plot, I cheered for his success. I loved all of the other characters: Maritza was strong and Julian was such a nice element to the mix. The character development was so well written. The world Aiden created contained such ...more

This was such an amazing title! Not only for the LGBT community but also for readers everywhere. If you are different than your family and they just don't get you then this story is for you. It covers how family can come in the most unexpected places and how close those that aren't even blood can be. The story itself was well paced with wonderful characters. With a great mystery that I didn't guess by the end. Relationships are another aspect of this story that leaps off the page. How each one ...more

Warning: this book will make you miss a flight because you’re so deep in it. I was very grateful to get an ARC, but I should have timed opening it up better!

Get yourself set up somewhere cozy, with a cup of hot chocolate and nothing to do, and treat yourself to this book.

Fast-paced and fascinating, starring characters who will become your best friends, wildly romantic, and well... revolutionary. We needed this book and now we have it.
