This is a quirky but entertaining mystery. It is the first I've read in this series and I felt it read well on its own. What a unique character construction – a human who turns into a cat at sunset then back to a human at sunrise. The kind of investigation a cat can do, such as getting information from other animals, was a clever twist in a mystery plot. The only aspect of the novel I did not like was the many allusions to kind of weird romantic attractions and sex. There was nothing graphic but ...more

For anyone who has read the first book, Eyeshine, fair warning—this volume opens with a major, and appalling, development. About that I’ll say no more.

Road to Nowhere brings us up to date with PJ Taylor’s story, that of a photojournalist who morphs into a cat every night and has figured out how to use that advantageously in her work. This time, prompted by her best friend Clara’s loss, she’s looking into a spate of kitty kidnappings. Quite naturally, the police haven’t been overly interested in

For a short book, this story packs a heavy punch.

It can be seen as an easy read, a cosy mystery about kidnapped cats, a supernatural story about a woman with the power to metamorph from human to cat.

For me, this story worked on so many more levels. I read it as a story about people being able to control their own identity and therefore their choices.

PJ turns into a cat, by day a human, by night a cat. No choice or control, she simply has to live with being either one or the other.

Elijah has to c

This was quite an interesting read, introducing us to PJ, who is human by day and morphs into a cat by dusk. PJ is determined to nab an organised catnapping crime that's going on, and seeks help from her animal friends in the evenings. Also in the picture are Elijah, struggling with coming to terms with their gender identity, Elijah's brother, who has some concrete beliefs regarding values and behaviours, and who is unwilling to bend.
Contrary to general anticipation, this doesn't delve deep int

Cy Wyss writes mysteries, including the popular series Eyeshine, about a photojournalist who turns into a cat nightly. Cy studied mathematics and English literature, eventually gaining her PhD in Computer Science. In her daily life she writes a ton of SQL, which could be seen as poetry -- of a sort. Cy jealously guards writing time and has been self-published since 2012.
