Oh my gosh! This book has left me a blubbering mess! It took me from the deepest of despair before pulling me into a place of bittersweet joy laced with the perfect transposition of a happy ever after. I feel as though I’ve been wrung through the wringer and I couldn’t be happier about the trip.

I could totally relate to Mika on so many levels as well as Jude. My heart was broken repeatedly for her experiences followed by even tougher decisions. While I was pretty sure where this book was going

2.5 stars.

Very predictable. Once I started the first chapter I know how it was going to go. How the heroine was going to keep this huge secret from hero.

And why is it always the heroine who has to suffer a tremendous loss? Why not the hero? Why is it the heroine who always has to have a bad marriage with an asshole of an ex?
While I did like how the author portrayed the hero’s friend with benefits ex whom he had produced a daughter with. I’ll applaud her for that, for not taking the usual easy

Mika is an incredible mother who went through something that would have destroyed most people. I cried...ugly freaking tears Jude is a single dad who has a very unconventional, but beautiful relationship with his baby Momma, Cassie, and her husband, Mark. Together they all helped to raise their amazing little girl, Kelty. God I love that kid Through grief and illness, Mika and Jude found each other. Beautiful and emotional. Freya Barker did an amazing job with this anthology.
I had so many emotions reading this book. Heartbreak, I’ve cried, I’ve swooned and fell in love with Mika and Jude’s story.
Freya is one of my unicorn authors and love that her characters are relatable to me. Thank you Freya Barker for this beautiful story.

I have but one regret...that I have not read any of the works written by Author Freya Barker before now. WOW! This story grabbed me and took me on an emotional ride at how she wove such a beautiful, heartbreaking, but amazing story is beyond words. I often wonder how an author decides on the name of a book, but this title made my heart skip a beat at the appropriateness! I loved the amazing characters, Jude, Mika, Kelty, Jim with his Boston accent and the spunky Mandy! I enjoyed picturing the ...more

What a beautifully written story. Mika and Jude were such wonderful characters. Their story was one of heartbreak and hope.
Mika is an incredibly brave and strong woman who has to make the ultimate sacrifice but knows with every fiber of her being that she is making the right choice. And on that day she crosses paths with Jude, not knowing at the time what an intricate part of her life he will become.
Jude and his daughter Kelty are facing an uncertain future and when he crosses paths with Mika

Wow just wow, Freya barker hit one out of the park for her emotionally engaging some whatheart renching contribution, which is one of the reasons I purchased the original in a fund raising anthology which was a Great cause for all these authors to get behind. Well worth the cost. A more elegant review by another reviewer is

Not for the faint of heart.
This was is kinda a heart jerker what with her son being pulled off life support and his daughter being the heart donor.
Wow, right?!?!
I don’t think I could be in her shoes and be around him or his daughter.
But these characters make it work.

I highly recommend you read this awesome story!

I originally read this story as part if the Then There Was You anthology and it was hands down my favorite of all the ones I read! You will want to keep tissues handy, but the gut wrenching moments are offset very well by the sweet and steamy ones!

Jude never expected to be blessed with his daughter but he loves her fiercely. Kielty has a heart condition that threatens her life but she is fortunate to receive a transplant. On one of the best days of his life, Jude runs into Mika on one of the

There are few authors who can meld mature characters and emotion-based stories as well as Freya Barker. When Hope Ends (life begins) is equal parts love story and emotional family drama. Jude and Mika's story is beautifully written and when Ms. Barker adds children into her stories they soar to new heights.
Jude sees Mika on the worst day of her life; living every mother's worst nightmare. Their chance encounter foreshadows events to come and sets off a chain of events that is life-changing for

This is the story of a single mother named Mika Spencer, a single father named Jude Parks, and how one decision changes the course of their respective lives and leaves them linked in ways so rare yet ultimately awe-inspiring. I have to still start out with...OH MY HELL FREYA BARKER?! WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?! You DESTROYED me with When Hope Ends (Life Begins) the first time, and I've NEVER been the same, not to mention, can't stop the tears every time I think about this story all over again. I'm not going into details, except for well, Mika, who has crap happening to her which no one should have to deal with, or make decisions about. Jude was our hero, who was bright & shiny with hope, and is the perfect person ...more

This book.... I can't even describe the feels this book brings. From the moment you find out you are pregnant, every instinct you have is to protect that being, so a parents worst nightmare is something happening to that child, no matter the age. For Jude, his little girl being sick and needing a heart to get better, this is his worst nightmare. When he gets the magic call one night saying that a heart is available, his prayers are answered. For Mika, her heartbreak

… he pays attention, and let’s be honest, that’s not always a quality evident in the opposite gender.

I’m so grateful having had this amazing opportunity to learn that when hope ends for one, life begins for another

“I don’t know who this woman is. I’ve never heard so much cursing in my life.” I have to bite my lip to keep from laughing. I remember this part too. Cassie had made me feel about an inch tall with her sharp tongue while she was delivering Kelty. She’d even smacked me

Her son is taken off life support, making his heart available for transplant. His daughter is next on the list. Mika knows who Jude is from that day in the hospital, and from a fund-raiser a few months later. But she doesn't know his association with the cottage she rents. She meets Kelty first, and is taken with her, meeting Jude later. As they become closer, she tries to explain about their situation, but he waves her off. And the longer she waits, the harder it is to try to have the ...more

What a book, fantastic story line, compelling page turner, wonderful well developed characters, and my eyes would not stop leaking at the end.

I would defy anyone to read this and not feel the tug on their heart strings. The first few chapters are somewhat confusing, the author very carefully introduces the various characters to you and gives you some of the background to each of them, but withholds enough that your really not sure where this book is going to begin with. Slowly the penny begins

The opening scene of this book is one of the best I’ve read this year. Mika’s pain is visceral; you need to know what has brough her to this point. And then Luke’s kindness and compassion in the midst of his own hope … And yes, the coincidences are vast, but maybe those are what give people hope. This book could so easily have been mawkish and sentimental; instead, it’s powerful and realistic in its portrayal of what Mika goes through after Jamie’s death, and in the ongoing care that Kelty ...more

Extraordinary story!
The author hits another home run with this emotionally charged and gripping story!
I was easily swept into this heartfelt extraordinary story about ordinary characters.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this unique, thought provoking story.
It was unlike anything I’ve read in a very long time. It’s the type of story thats passionate and emotional and so much more than a contemporary romance.
Well written, with fantastic characters, I was impressed how this story had me reflecting

I had the pleasure of reading this as part of an anthology before and I can safely say I was no less blown away reading Mika and Jude’s story again. I also stand by what I said the first time I read this...
Seriously. This one is amazing. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful. It will move you in ways you don’t even realize. It will fill your heart to bursting. It will make you cry. When Hope Ends (Life Begins) is a flat out phenomenal read.

What a heartbreaking and inspiring story that this turned out to be. Mika is forced to make a decision, that even though she knows is the right and best thing to do, leaves her devasted. She is just existing and trying to get through the days that seem to never end until she Kelty, a nine year old girl who makes her feel again.

When it comes to his daughter Kelty Jude has gone from the depths of depair to an elation that knows no bounds. Kelty’s friendship with Mika brings her into their lives

Thanks to the author for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

Mika and Jude meet first like two ships passing through the night but that one moment of kindness would be remembered. Fate throws these two together and a romance blossoms. This was a beautiful and thought provoking story about what happens after you lose all hope but still have to continue living.

What did I like? There is a very sedate pace to the book which is wonderful to me because it helped me control my emotions. It

There is such a uniqueness about this story. It has a fresh story line, and showcases a strong heroine trying to get back to her new normal after a tragic loss, and a hottie single dad Jude, who has faced many challenges as a single dad of a child with a life threatening illness.
I love that this book has a few lessons in it.... communication between couples can be the difference between a big issue and resolving problems that come about. One lesson that stuck with me is the old adage "don't

Who are Mika and Emmett? What is going on in their lives? Who is Jamie? Who are Jude and Cassie? Oh my goodness, their daughter is precious! Be prepared to have waterworks reading this story! The title totally fits this story and is very apropos after reading the story. A very well executed story that instantly grabbed my attention and held it to the very end. I definite one sit read. It instantly grabs hold of your heart and makes you live through a parents worst nightmare of losing a child and living with a sick child. It took my breath away, stole my tears and made me feel a heartwrenching pain but it had a few light hearted laughs that help to break the somber mood that drifted through the pages and a happy yet so darn sad sobbing mess

Reading this story was almost too much for me. Freya Barker is always and I mean always a go-to author for me. While she normally deals more in romantic suspense, this book is different, which I loved. This book gets all the feels. I wasn't sure I liked this softer, sweet side of Freya, but I was way off base. I loved every second of this story.

This is Mika and Jude's story. This story is raw. It's heartbreaking. It's soul searching. It's thinking about That you would do faced with the

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, grief, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Mika and Jude's story. Knowing the worst pain someone can have is either a good or bad thing. Might be good so they don’t have to explain it but bad as the memories are there. Mika is struggling and decides that living in the city is no longer an option and she rents a cottage. Jude’s daughter and she become fast friends. There is chemistry between Mika and Jude but knowing her past can

When Hope Ends follows Mika, Jude & his daughter Kelty. Mika’s life was shattered when her son was in a horrific accident and she had to make the decision to turn off his life support. Before that though she made the heart wrenching decision to donate his organs so that some good could come out of his death.
Mika, tormented by the press, tries to find herself again by renting a cottage away from the city. It just happens to be owned by Jude. His daughter, Kelty, received her son’s heart. The
