My first book by this author. At least I think so, but she writes under four different names so I am not totally sure! Anyway I found this one very entertaining.

The Vicarage Murder is a well written, cosy mystery set in the usual picturesque English village. Monica Noble is the wife of the local vicar and although she is the 'Detective' in the series title she does very little detecting in this book! The solution to the crime pretty much just falls into her lap. I enjoyed her as a character

When the large vicarage was converted to flats, the vicar, Graham Noble had first choice of the flat he and his new wife Monica wanted as their home. They chose No. 1 as it had a ground floor entry from outside and was bigger with a nice view. Most of the flats were completed and occupied with only a few left to finish. Monica organized a housewarming party for the residents, so they could get to know one another a little better. With Monica’s fifteen-year-old daughter Carol Ann, they set out ...more

I would like to thank NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author Faith Martin for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first novel in another new series from Faith Martin. I had often thought about living in an idyllic little village, but it seems from what I read, they are not so idyllic!
A Cotswold vicarage has been divided up into 12 luxury flats. In an attempt to get the new residents together, and get to know each other better. The vicar's wife arranges a garden party. However

“THE VICARAGE MURDER” by Faith Martin was first published as “An Unholy Mess” under Martin’s pen name, Joyce Cato. It is a gentle cozy featuring the vicar’s wife, Monica Nobel and a large cast of characters. The book is interesting as a relaxing read, but lacks the depth of character that is found in other Faith Martin Series such as the novels featuring Jenny Starling or the series featuring Ryder and Loveday.
Descriptions of the vicarage, which has been converted to multi-family flats are good

An excellent mystery! I guessed whodunit about half way through the book - but it turned out I was completely wrong! But I did pick up on a couple of the clues about the method and timing.

I really like the main characters in the book and look forward to reading more of this series. This is the first book I've read by Joyce Cato who I hadn't come across before she came up in a list of recommended authors based on what I'd read before - it's not often these lists actually come up with anything

Diabolical! It was very easy to figure out who the murder victim was going to be, but nearly every character had reason enough. Well, except for the vicar and the vicar's wife. During a somewhat impromptu garden party on the grounds of the former vicarage turned apartment building the blast of a shotgun is heard, but the body is found in an apartment that is being painted and decorated pre sale. The only things more prevalent than suspects are the red herrings and plot twists! I read it on one ...more

I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of The Vicarage Murder, the first novel to feature amateur sleuth Monica Noble.

Monica gave up a successful career in London to marry a country vicar and move to the Cotswolds. They live in the vicarage which has recently been converted into flats so Monica decides to throw a get to know each other party for the residents. The party is disrupted by a shotgun blast and the discovery of Margaret Franklyn’s body.

This is the first in a new series by Faith Martin to be published by Joffe Books. I have read every book that Joffe have published written by Ms Martin and I have to say that I enjoyed this one the most! Monica Noble is a vicar's wife, having been widowed when her daughter was young. She has left her job in London to move to the Cotswolds to be with Graham and isn't missing the high life she led there. The vicarage in which they live has been converted into luxury apartments and Monica throws a ...more

I needed something to soothe my mind in between my thrillers, and I chose to read a cozy murder. As if murder can be cozied, you know what I mean.

This was book 1 in the series and my first book by Faith Martin. I was introduced to Monica, the newly married wife of vicar Graham with a daughter Carol-Ann. The Vicarage had been converted into 8 apartments, and Monica threw a party to welcome the new residents. A shotgun blast and someone was dead. Another strangulation a week later made Monica

Classic whodunit perfect for fans of Agatha Christie that will keep you guessing till the end.

The vicar’s wife, Monica Noble throws a party for the new residents of the newly converted vicarage, but it ends in tragedy when one of her neighbors is found shot. Monica must then swing into action to help the police find the killer (I couldn’t help thinking about her as a modern Miss Marple).

Large cast of suspects, lots of secrets and some twists in the investigation that make of “The vicarage murder

A very good cozy mystery with elements of a Golden Age mystery.
It's a gripping and entertaining story that kept me hooked till the end.
The cast of characters, the vicar and Monica above all, is well written and likeable. The setting is lovely and I liked the humorous and realistic descriptions of the village life.
The mystery is very good, full of twists and turns, and kept me guessing till the end.
I look forward to reading the next instalment in this series.

The Vicarage Murder by Faith Martin was an entertaining murder mystery filled with twists and turns. Monica and Graham Noble are wonderful! Plus, I always enjoy when the "victim" is a vile creep who "had it coming". Glad to have found an excellent new cozy mystery series!

A nice nd gentle old fashioned who-dunnit. A story that gripped me from the beginning. A murder takes place in an old vicarage which has just been converted into flats, not all of which have been sold. Number One is the home of the vicar, his wife and step-daughter and there is no-one living opposite them, although it appears that there is someone dying in there.

A really good book.

I received a free advance review copy of the book. This review is honest, voluntary and my own opinion.

A new series by Faith Martin, and a real winner! Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. Prolific author Faith Martin is back with a new cozy mystery series featuring Monica Noble. Enter DCI Jason Dury and DS Jim Greer. They interview the residents along with the rest of their team. Some seem truthful and some are not. The police check stories and alibis. The potential

What do Hillary Greene, Jenny Starling, Ryder & Loveday, and Monica Noble all have in common? Why they are all characters that have come to life on the written page by the author, Faith Martin. I have read and enjoyed all her books and was excited to see a new series set in the Cotswold countryside. (What is it with all those idyllic English towns? Another place that sounds like heaven, but everyone, and I mean everyone, has something to hide or has murder on their mind! Though it does make ...more

I was provided this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Vicarage Murder started with all the great hallmarks of a cozy mystery: quaint English town, a lovable protagonist, and a wide cast of quirky characters. Unfortunately, that is where the charm ended,

Hello Monica Noble!

Hello Monica Noble and welcome into my bungalow, joining various other 'amateur sleuths' created (mainly) by Faith Martin and Betty Rowlands. Until a few months ago I would never have thought I would read these sort of books, mainly being a dedicated fan of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Lee Child, Ed McBain and others.

But one day I came across Faith Martin, was quickly hooked on the DI Hillary Greene series.....reading all 17 of that series in just a few weeks.....and have hardly

Nothing spectacular but equally I wasn't expecting a gritty murder mystery so in that sense it lived up to expectations.
This was more your cosy country "whodunit" with the amateur sleuth saving the day by solving the crime. I chose this book as part of a reading challenge I'm doing rather than it being something I would normally choose to read. It was a little timid for my likings but I did enjoy the opening few chapters where the author is setting the scene. I'm not a great fan of stories where

I read so many books, but I do love a good murder mystery to escape and relax with. This revamped series from Faith Martin, (formerly published under the pen name Joy Cato), is a perfect example.

Monica, the vicar's wife has left her high-powered advertising career and the glamour of London because she fell in love with a country vicar. It has to be said that the vicar is charming, clever and compassionate, and even though there is an age difference, they are compatible in every way.
