What would you do if you had the opportunity to meet the rock stars of your dream but for very good reasons decided they could never know you ran a huge online fansite for them? That's the dilemma met by midwesterner Layla Beckett when she moves to New York City to work for the industry darling Rock Paper. Starting on day one she comes face to face with fame, and must decide how to deal with it.

Layla's journey is both exhilarating and one she has to think about every step of the way, especially

Well, after finishing this I have to go back and read the first two again, I really enjoyed catching up with Adam and Eden, Jo and Micah. And I have to say what a name, Theatre of the Absurd. Its wonderful, wonderful ;-) Though the abbreviation TotA somehow always reminds me more of the British T and A abbreviation.......

I understood much of the web stuff, I too have a blog ( two actually, art and books) but mine

What a delightful story. This is my first book by this author and definitely not my last. Couldn’t put it down. Don’t miss out.

    Annoying Heroine, Vulnerable Hero

I rarely read rock-star romance, but something in this book's description at my favorite book review site made me curious. After reading it, I wonder if I'm getting perhaps a little too old for these kinds of stories, as the heroine’s reactions to her new world and the people she met just seemed silly and juvenile, especially for a 28-year-old.

The heroine, Layla, is on the first day of her job when she meets a celebrity photographer whom she has followed online.

Layla Beckett just started her dream job for “Rock Paper”, a well-known music magazine in New York. She was ecstatic to turn her long-time music obsession into her real-life career! But when she got to her cubicle, there was no laptop for her. She stepped over to the woman in the next cubicle to ask where the IT group was when she was stunned to recognize Josie “Jo” Wilder. Jo wouldn’t know her, but Layla’s fan-base website had for 10 years idolized the Walking Disaster band and Jo had a ...more

This story was an absolute joy from start to finish. Layla runs a fan forum dedicated to her favorite musicians and bands, and Shane happens to be in one of those bands. So they have this immediate connection, but also tensions that arise from negotiating a space for love between the unique challenges posed by her dedicated fandom and the demands of his career. I loved both of the characters, they were relatable and real, good people yet flawed in compelling ways. As their relationship grows and ...more

Marlowe has just the right mix for an engaging novel with a “rock-star” romance. Layla Beckett just started her dream job in NYC with a prestigious music magazine. Her first day on the job, she makes a friend who gives her access to her very favorite band. Perfect, right? Well, Layla has a secret life as the admin of the heavily trafficked fan site for this band. As Layla gets to know the real people behind the music, balancing the two becomes an issue especially when she falls into a ...more

It's got to be a popular fantasy to meet the hot rockstar, so when Shane is the one who catches Layla's interest instead of who she's been following for years it brings a sudden twist to things. He's skeptical as the drummer most girls overlook or use to get to the others so it's kind of refreshing to see the guy feeling a little insecure. Her secret starts to drive a wedge with the new life she's made so we keep reading to see if the trainwreck is salvageable. You really want them to work and ...more

I received an ARC of Kind of Famous in exchange for an honest review.

At first I really thought this was going to be another cliche girl falls for rockstar romance, and while it did have some of the expected cliche’s, I was pleasantly surprised. Layla is a strong heroine who we get to see grow from wallflower to shining star in her own right as she experiences the turbulence of a fast paced relationship with Shane the drummer of an up and coming band.

I give this book 4 stars because there were

You should never meet your heroes they say. What happens when a super fan gets a chance encounter with the drummer from her favorite band. What if she falls deeply in love super fast I’m an unexpected twist. How will she tell him that she’s the owner of a popular fan site? Can she convince him of her love for who he is and not some twisted fantasy of falling for a rockstar? This is an excellent rockstar romance that wasn’t predictable and was a good solid pace. I enjoyed it and would like to ...more

    Super fan girl.

Layla is 28, just new to New York and starting a new job. Oh, and she’s Pumpkin39, super fan who runs a fan site of a popular band.

She meets Shane, a member of said band.

    What I liked?
It’s a hipster peek into the music world with a heavy dose of social media fandom.
Told first person POV from Layla’s view point. I would have liked more Shane pov.
    Verdict.
Enjoyable, light, kind of New Adult-y.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although lighthearted, the more serious themes were beautifully incorporated, without being forced. It's a story about regular people (OK, slightly struck by celebrity :) ) with their own fears, hopes, and desires, who find their very own one-of-a-kind love. The secondary characters are also beautifully fleshed and hope they'll have books of their own.

I received an ARC from Booksprout for an honest review. I liked it. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. The main character really comes into her own by the end and I liked the romance. I was afraid it would be a groupie falling for a rock star but it was much more.I would read another of Mary Ann Marlowe's books.

This book is every fan's wildest dream. I can very easily see teenaged me substituting myself and Gavin Rossdale for Layla and Shane here. (I mean, he's not a drummer, but when I was in high school, he was the hottest man alive.) Layla's just a regular girl who likes music and coding so she made a fan site. Shane is pretty normal for a rocker. All of the band members are (except maybe Noah - but I look forward to seeing him redeemed in a future book). And that's good, because really, I like to ...more
