This book is a series standalone but contains references to characters from the Broken series.
“Compelling and suspenseful. Well worth the read.”
Their words were harsh. Lacerating. Meant to cut me. They were out to paralyze me with their fake tales of seduction and manipulation. Each layer of lies they told buried me deeper under new deceptions. Lies that I don’t know if I can overcome.
But they don’t know the real story. My story. They know what they were told…and it couldn’t be any further from the truth. Because the story I’ve lived wasn’t written by me. It was written by someone who was out to destroy me.

A. R. WILE IS A CANADIAN AUTHOR who writes dark romance novels that combine characters with troubled pasts, sarcastic and witty banter, as well as an enthralling battle for a well-deserved happily ever after. She lives with her husband, two children and four fur babies. When she’s not writing or spending time with her family, she’s obsessively reading any books she can find, singing, or finding more ways to be creative through digital design.
Pain, agony, defeat, hope, love, renewal. All in one. This book triggers you if you grew up around and been apart of abuse and violence. A great read and worthy of your time.
SCORNED by A R Wile A story of dark and light. The lasting impact of high-school bullying escalates into revenge, rape and murder with devastating impact on the lives of those involved. Can love pour it’s light into the darkness and bring redemption? A great read, be aware this story does have hard-hitting violence and steamy love scenes within the narrative.

2 stars!
I want to start with saying I don’t think this book was for me, so if it sounds like it is something you would be into then I encourage you to try it out. This book was not bad or anything, just not my cup fo tea.
This is a story following two characters. Kaden is a young cop and Charlotte is a girl who has just suffered from abuse. Kaden follows her case and the two of them also have some chemistry!
I think the reason this story did not mesh well for me is because:
1) Throughout the story, and especially at the start, I felt very confused by all the flashbacks and present time switches. It felt like one after another and I wasn’t really following what was going on.
2) A lot of things felt overdramatic to me. This is a story about abuse and it is definitely a real trauma people suffer from and
3) It wasn’t keeping my attention. For the longest time it felt like nothing was happening plot wise and yet I was expected to care. It was definitely a hard topic but I still wasn’t invested and because of that it just felt too dramatic to me. After the 40% point, things picked up a bit but I still got to the point where I just wasn’t really invested even then. I really did skim a lot and couldn’t find a reason to be fully invested and I think it is just because this is not for me. Dark topics are very finicky for me.
4) I was expecting more thrills. I was really expecting more to happen but I am pretty sure this was supposed to be more of a romantic thriller, but it didn’t work for me.
I really couldn’t care about the characters in this story and I couldn’t get into much. I did want to see what happened, but when it comes down to it the twists and such were very dramatic and not really in a good way. I felt a little like some of the serious stuff was nearly laughable because of way it was dramatized and perhaps that is just my taste but it wasn’t really how I wanted to see such serious topics and such portrayed. There are also a few scenes that felt very unbelievable to me. I don’t want to discuss spoilers in this review, but it has to do with a kiss and the girl was sort of being attacked but the author seemed to write it as if it was and yet wasn’t an attack? I didn’t enjoy that part.
Overall, just not for me but I definitely would suggest you to read it if it sounds like it would be for you! Everyone likes dark and sad topics in books written in different ways. I know others have enjoyed this so we all have our own taste.
