I have to say penguin publishing knows how to get a girl interested in a proof copy sending it with stroopwaffels (my fave's) and tea with the book tied with a beautiful gold ribbon. Nostalgia for my Dutch childhood flashed before my eyes and I had to be the one to take it home.
The book, just like it's packaging was beautiful I enjoyed the twists and turns of the orphans adventures and loved every single one of them. It was a truly lovely kids book full of adventure, wild children's

The Unadoptables is a beautiful story about the friendship between 5 orphans and their adventures that take place in the winter of 1892 in the city of Amsterdam. The orphans run away from the Little Tulip Orphanage after the matron tries to sell them to a crook, to follow clues that might potentially lead to finding the family of one of them – a dark-haired, dark-eyed girl called Milou.

These children are all around 12 and were left at the orphanage as babies placed in various containers or in

This book was excellent. It’s all about 5 orphans who are just a little different to everyone else, and how they find their place in the world. It mostly centres on Milou trying to find her parents, but there’s so much more to this story! It’s a fun adventure, it’s just a little bit creepy, and the ending is so satisfying. I love the relationships between the five children. I adore the illustrations, which are so perfect for the story, and a delight to look at. I really hope that there will be ...more

This was a thrilling read and an interesting story. 5 unusual orphans in 19th century Holland are looking for family - they manage to escape the clutches of the evil orphanage mistress and a strange man who wants them to slave on his ship, and end up living together in an old mill, trying to find out more about the main character's family. There are lots of gorgeous details, and I really enjoyed the setting - there are a number of these types of books set in London of this era, but this had some ...more
