This would have received 4 or 5 stars from my teenage self. I was given an Advanced Readers Copy by this new author. It’s been 30 years since I was a teen, which was the same time this story takes place. It was fun to relive the many pop culture references!

Christina, the main character, is struggling to cope with issues she didn’t create for herself. She is starting high school soon and something horrible happens to her. She is dating her first boyfriend, Avery, who really cares for her and

Not Again is an intense Young Adult Romance with strong themes of Christian Faith and emotional growth.

The main character, Christina, is a likable, quirky teenager enjoying life when a series of awkward events leads to a traumatic experience. Friendship and a youthful romance help her recover somewhat, but even if she can’t trust the people who care about her with her whole heart and all its pain, she will have to decide if she can trust God with it.

Christina and her journey feel very real,

Being a teenager is a challenging time in a young person's life. It comes with changes that are sometimes difficult to adjust to and be content with in their lives. This novel takes the reader into the life of Christina De Rosa and her journey through those "teen" years. The social pressures and teenager drama can be very hard to cope with. Add a deep, dark secret that fear of exposure would ruin her life, Christina has to find her way in this emotionally and spiritually filled story.

So I won this in a giveaway. I was excited because it seemed right up my alley. I don’t even know how to describe it without giving away things. Ended up it wasn’t for me. Usually when I can’t get into a book I give it about 50-60 pages. I have this one over 100 because I wanted to like it and give a glowing review. A lot of it just seemed unrealistic. For example every character including the 14-15 year olds were overly polite/mature in my opinion. That kind of reminded me of Pleasantville, the ...more

Christina is thirteen and enters a beauty pageant. Mrs. Martin - her Daisy Duke wanna be neighbor talked her into the entry. She goes shopping to purchase the dress and bathing suit with her mother, and family member. A beautiful stunning girl with swarthy skin like her father, long curly locks, and a mother Beatrice that knocked the charts when she was younger. By being entered into Pageant picture day, Pageant dress, Pageant swimsuit the votes were on, and she wanted to win as any girl would! ...more

Not Again was a novel that stayed with me from beginning to end. I loved the different elements and emotions Not Again portrayed. Not Again showed teenagers as real as they come. Compassionate and uncouth, cruel and kind.

Not Again is a novel that will make you think. The element of faith resonates throughout the novel and is beautifully woven in. The scripture is comforting and familiar. Christina,Avery, and the other teenagers are on their journey of discovery as we all once were and still are.

Not Again is a great YA novel. My younger self struggled with some of the same struggles. I think many will relate.

This book tackled some tough things that a teen might be faced with. It would be a good book to read with your teens but caution, there are some very difficult to read scenes in this book.
I love this author's writing. She didn't use the terrible situation as the main platform, rather it became a catalyst for the character's journey. It's very easy to follow and smooth. Her 80's pop culture references were a ton of fun to read. I mean, rollerblading? Who doesn't remember that?
Her characters are

Heartfelt...
Maria Henriksen writes edgy young adult Christian fiction. After reading this book I can see why. Many issues are addressed in her story that teens struggle with today, whether Christian or not. She portrays the teenage years very well in dealing with bullying, the fight against sexual purity, drugs, alcohol and partying. The setting is in the 80s in a small town. The 80’s theme was fun to read and made me think of my own growing up years. It is also the time when many of these

First, I want to thank Maria Henriksen for providing me with this book, all opinions expressed in this review are my own. This is a very well written book that will hold your attention from beginning to end. This is a book that you don't want to end, but you just have to know what's going to happen next. It is written in such a way that you feel all the emotions of the people in the story. It has drama, suspense and romance and is told from a young girl's point of view from freshman year to ...more

Christina is just a teen who is faced with the usual challenges, until a traumatic event put her is a dark and deep place. This is a well written story which deals with a sensitive topic, and is a relatable read. This story is raw, gritty, heartbreaking, emotional, intense, and with drama, suspense, and faith. Be warned that there are triggers in this story, so be aware before reading!

This is a very cute and touching story of a young girl who has to face many things in her life. From what seems to be a mother who is not really there for her emotionally to being assaulted by a neighbor boy who was just plain evil. Falling in love at what seems to be to be a very young age and going through all the ups and downs that go with that. Being 13 is a very hard age but when I was that age I was not at all into dating or boys yet. I of course noticed a cute boy but would never have ...more

Maria Henriksen’s debut novel, Not Again, is a redemptive story about a teenager named Christina, and her to-be-boyfriend, Avery. Christina abandons her childhood beliefs in Christianity when she suffers two back-to-back traumatic situations. She tries to fit in at school, but she is bullied and teased by a jealous popular girl her posse. Christina feels abandoned, rejected, unloved, and self-hatred sets in. When Christina starts dating Avery, this seems to be the answer, but neither she nor ...more

Not Again by Marie T. Henriksen
This story is set in the 1980’s. If you were a teenager in this era, you will love all the references to 80’s music and movies. I actually started humming the songs while reading! It really set the mood! But in addition, it is a story of teenage angst and all that it entails. The awkward stages of adolescence, the peer pressure to fit in, get good grades, excel at sports and first love and the first kiss. But what if the most precious thing is stolen from you? And

Not Again is a fascinating coming of age story that captures the reader's attention from page one. The characters are so well developed that, even as adults, it's hard to tear yourself away from this story of teenage romance and first love. The story delves far deeper than typical teenage angst as the heroine Christina struggles to come to terms with a brutal attack at age 13, dealing with the shame and guilt she feels without telling anyone else what happened to her. She begins to find solace ...more

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC.

In my opinion this book format and wording seems to be written for very young teenagers/preteens, but with content a little more for older teens. The first few chapters were very hard to get into with so much description about a pageant, but as the story unfolded I found myself hoping for a beautiful ending for Christina. All in all it was a great YA story.

NOT AGAIN is a gritty, faith based, YA debut novel set in the 1980s. It is definitely a bit of a genre bender. Ms. Henriksen covers some tough subjects for teens amidst all the angst and carefree summers. Told from the point of view of the protagonist, Christina, (she tends to be a perfectionist but with good reason) this story includes strong friendships, romance and betrayal while some of the pivotal characters explore their faith. There are humorous and heartwarming moments throughout, as ...more
