"[This] collection of . . . multi-disciplinary adventures induces territories of dissent and identity, both of and beyond the stage. . . . [Rodrigo] Toscano has produced an often gleeful romp wherein the geometry of the self affirms/celebrates its style while steadfastly subverting institutionalized forms."— Sustainable Aircraft
One of the most challenging exvacations of, and transformations of, revolutionary theater and poetics, especially when Toscano confronts the horizontal and vertical limits of the stage, page and staged page.
See my review of this work on my / Wheelhouse blog, as well as forthcoming work that comes out of CPT in the new Wheelhouse special addition, spring 09. Suffice it to say, this is for me a game changer. http://davidwolach.blogspot.com/
I'd really give it a 3 and a half. I don't think this book is for everybody, and when i was first reading it I was like um...ok...but it's actually pretty good. Toscano's poetic theater is poetic verse meant to be performed in a way. sort of like spoken word mixed with beat poetry...to an extent. What i thought was really interesting is how its as if you are listening to other people's conversaions walking in and out of them. not fully getting everything but getting everything you need to understand or make sense of it. like i said it's not for everybody but it's not that bad at all. and if you are possibly interested on youtube people have performed his work and that may be interesting to view before deciding to read this book.
