Rebels and Nerds #1

Brick's Geeks

Rate this book
He’s a man who knows how to fight, but what has that brought Brick Lochlann?
Beaten, broke, and running from his past, he arrives in Seattle, ready to start a new life.
Ready for almost anything, but not for Irving and Ezra.

Brick:

Ezra looks like an angel. That’s the first problem.
When he comes by the bar where I’m working, my mind starts firing with desires that scare me.
Someone has been vandalizing the comic book store where he works down the street, and Ezra thinks I should keep an eye on the place.
Careful what you wish for...

Ezra gets me worked up, and when this geeky guy Irving comes into the bar to catch some washed up band, I just can’t help myself.
He’s gorgeous, with lips that drive me wild and a cute submissive vibe.
And when I turn on my charm, Irving unravels in my hands.

That’s the real problem, though.
Everything I touch falls apart.
And every man I care about is left hurt and reeling.

I’m not going down that path again. I’m not going to make Ezra and Irving live through that pain.
Because I might be running from my past, but my past is running just as fast to keep up with me.

And I might be ready to throw a fist and take a punch, but I know I can’t fight hard enough to keep them safe.
I know that the second I admit my true feelings, they’ll be the ones to pay the price.

Brick’s Geeks is an MMM romance, and the first novel in the Rebels and Nerds series. It is an 80K novel with an HEA for all three characters, featuring spanking, ropes, and a spicy heat level. Enjoy!

For the first half of this Irving and Ezra were such bright lights. Their individual character traits and little idiosyncrasies made me love them. The way they were each trying to move out of their comfort zones was fun to read.

But I just couldn’t get excited about the three of them together. Brick wasn’t a very appealing character to me. And aside from Irving and Ezra both not wanting to top I was at a loss for how else he “completed” them. The kinky sex was pretty average and and how the drama played out was a bit of an anticlimax.

The second half of this just lost the fun. There was way too much telling and internal dialogues and not enough true relationship building for me. And the editing seemed to fall apart in the last half too, with spelling issues, missed words and wrong character names in conversations. So, while I did enjoy the first half it’s not something I’ll reread.

I enjoyed Ezra and Irving and their friendship, and despite the overuse of exclamation marks and case of telling and not showing the story, I was enjoying the first third or so. However, I didn't really feel any chemistry between any of them - Brick and Ezra, Brick and Irving, Ezra and Irving, or all three of them together. And it didn't help that all I could think of was the anime memes of "And they were BOTH BOTTOMS" lol

But the first time the three of them are together, Brick just goes, "you both need spankings," totally out of left field, and all the kink just seemed like too much for the two men who have little to no sexual experience and don't really know what they want in bed yet.

Also, if the story is going to be written in 1st person POV there needs to be a distinct voice to the storyteller for their chapter. There was so much internalizing and rambling that all sounded the same, it was hard to know if it was Irving's, Brick's or Erza's chapter.

I'm at 70% and I'm sorry to say that I'm putting this one down as DNF. I really like AussieMum's review, I felt very similarly. I'm sorry to say that this one just didn't work for me, but others have really enjoyed it based on the early reviews, so maybe this is just one of those "it's not you, it's me" type of books.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ezra, Irving, and Brick

Two thorough geeks and one grumpy fighter. It was entertaining and enjoyable. I love the dynamic of Ezra and Irving and it’s getting even better with Brick.

When Brick, on the run for a long time, is discovered by his chasers he knows he has to run again, When he gets noticed by two geeks, he only wants some fun and then back of.

Ezra and Irving have other plans with him.

Steamy read with a good plot. A threesome is always tricky to read about. There is so much that can go wrong. But in this story, it just worked fine. The three of them together was believable, their dynamic was good and they were hot. Their characters were well put down.
The pasts of the three were enough developed to understand where they come from and why they act as they did.
All together an entertaining, sexy story with three lovable men.

All reviews are voluntary and my honest opinion.

Ezra is a bubbly cutie who works at the comic shop. Every Wednesday Irving comes in to browse the new releases, trying to gather the nerve to ask Ezra out. They have plenty of chemistry, there's one problem, both guys are submissive.

Brick is an ex-street-fighter turned bouncer, at the dive bar down the street. When someone vandalizes the comic shop, Ezra hires Brick to keep an eye out. There's an undeniable spark between the three men, but Brick's past keeps him from settling down.

I love the premise: Cute geeks and rebellious bad boys.

I'm interested in reading more of the series.

There are some rough edges. If you're a stickler for R.A.C.K. there are a few very mild iffy moments, but everything is 100% consensual.

Ezra and Irving have more time to develop a friendship. I feel like I know them better than Brick. Most of the time they spend with Brick is intimate. There's not as much bonding with Brick until the end of the book.

That said, the book is sweet and enjoyable read.

Light kink, ropes, D/s.

4/5

3.5 stars - This was a cute story about a couple of comic book geeks who realize they share the same desires/needs, as well as a shared interest in a guy who can fulfill them. Unfortunately, that guy has a past and believes he only has to offer a bit of fun here and there. Brick is the bad boy ex-fighter/turned bouncer who Ezra and Irving naturally gravitate toward with a feeling of protectiveness and safety. They have interacted with each other quite a bit more and have had more time to grow their friendship, whereas, when they meet Brick, they have different reasons for the initial contact before the attraction sets in.

I loved how the tables turned when Brick’s past came closing in and it was Ezra and Irving who took charge and kept him from running. We learned enough about each of them to understand their present day actions, and there were a lot of interesting and fun dynamics here, and the interactions were all done well. While I wasn’t blown away by the chemistry between Ezra and Brick or Irving and Brick, I loved them each on their own and enjoyed them together as a threesome. There was quite a bit of telling and inner dialog in this story, which I’m not generally a fan of. But, overall, this was a cute story, and I’m looking forward to continuing with the series.

They say honesty is the best policy, so let's go with that. I really, really wanted to love this book. I was all excited for it and quickly requested it, but it did not hit home for me. I was okay at best. It never takes me so long to read a book, and, along the way what I expected did not come to fruition. The world building was slow and the three main characters really did not click with me. Individually, they were okay. But as a triad, there was like something was missing.

I get the Ezra and Irving relationship and feel for them when they realised they were the same and needed something else to complete them. I get the "attraction" to what Brick could offer. But yet again, it didn't excite me or make me take notice.

I will continue however to follow this author's work as I have yet to read the books loaded on my kindle. I always believe in giving a second chance.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author through LesCourt.

Told from three points of view, this book took a bit to get going for me. Those readers who enjoy size differences and big muscled tough guys paired with smaller geeky guys will be in heaven. I appreciated that both of the geeky characters had quirks that would have gotten them ostracized at my high school. All too often the geek in a book is just a pretty boy with glasses who likes comics or computers or something but these guys are really geeky.

There's some drama and a little conflict but overall, the book is on the fluffier end of the angst spectrum, so if you're looking for a sweet MMM, give this book a try. *I received an arc of this book.*

I hate giving books bad ratings. I know how hard authors work to share their stories. That being said, this books was unbelievably awful. The plot had such great promise, but it fell apart very fast and became rather disjointed. Not only that, it is glaringly obvious the author either had no experience with the bdsm scene, or her exposure has been awful. No Dom will ever make a comment about not using safe words and they would never call them bullshit. You either have words for slow down and stop, or you have green, yellow, red. If you are ever with a “dom” that says that shit, leave immediately it’s not safe.

As soon as I got to the bdsm section of the book I had to stop reading. Nothing about how the “dom” acted was correct.

If you want a good m/m series with amazing Doms go with the Perfect Hands series by Nora Phoenix. If you want a good series that involves all types of bdsm relationships including m/f, polyamory, and a wide variety of kinks, you want to read the Touch series by Cara Dee. Read the collection of the series vs the individual stories, it’s just simpler. Lol

Irving and Ezra, two men who think they might have something together, it would be perfect if they weren’t both bottoms.

Brick, running from his past, no time for a useless relationship.

When these three men realize they work together it should of been the end of the story. However....Brick’s past just won’t leave him alone. Forcing him to push both men away in order to keep them safe. He just didn’t count on his geeks protecting him.

Irving and Ezra were cuties. Brick was a stoic, big strong man. The three together were cute, hot, and just a little worn out from all the good times. Cute story.

Brick, big tough bouncer, ex fighter
Ezra, comic store geek, cute as a button.
Irving, lonely geek. Customer at ezras store.
Irving was adorably awkward. Both him and Ezra were endearing and sweet.
Bricks past has followed and found him in Seattle
Wants to protect Ezra, Irving and Lolita by running again.
Irving and Ezra want to help Brick.
I really enjoyed the dynamics of these men together. Sweet funny guys, Brick and Irving both a bit haunted by a shitty past.
Healing and loving and helping each other.

DNF

I like the premise of this book and I've thoroughly enjoyed some of the author's other works, but I couldn't get into the flow of this one. Ok so they're comic lovers and the villain's name is Frisk. I found that amusing and really wanted to get into this. It was a really slow build-up to get to know Brick which was the main reason why I returned the book without finishing. Also, are they into bondage and D/s or not? Confusing. Since I enjoyed the author's writing style in another series so much, I will give the next book in this series a go.

This book was boring, I skip a lot in it. I did finish it, and there was some cute scene in it, but there was also a lot of boring stuff in it. It was an easy read. Short. A bit cute some times, and sweet, but otherwise just a bit boring.

Quick, breezy read, nothing extraordinary

Written in alternating first person perspectives. I loved the meet-cute with all three of them, usually menage plots start with an establishes couple so I liked that they were all meeting at the same time. The characters are well done, complete with backstories, distinct personalities. Plot was a bit choppy, anticlimactic really. Sex scenes were hot but not terribly creative. BDSM so light it's nearly nonexistent. 4 typos. Overall, this is a perfectly average book.

Brick, Ezra and Irving!

You quickly met Ezra in Asher and his Geek Daddies and now it seems that the wonderful men at Northstar comic are getting their own happily ever afters! While Irving and Ezra made complete sense together, they needed Brick to fill in that missing piece in their relationship. Between the three of them, they found happiness and fulfillment for a lifetime.

I like the concept and the uniqueness of the book, but I don’t like the book. The characters don’t flow right. However, its not so off-putting that I won’t check out the authors other books.

This book features an MMM romance between a gruff guy with a shady past, a happy comic store worker and an awkward computer builder agoraphobic.

There are some name errors. Irving and erza get mixed up in the KU version more than once. That is the only real complaint plus I think there was some word mix ups that I noticed. This is a really solid story and I enjoyed it immensely.

needs more editing …and lube

the story itself is good, and i enjoyed the characters. but some of the details and descriptions changed in ways that pulled me out of the story, and… i’m sorry, spit and precome are not sufficient lubricant for anal sex.

I can’t say the book is bad. It’s entertaining enough.
But I can’t say it’s very good either. It lacks some depth and feels a bit too simple.

Loved the idea though.

After reading R. Cayden's adorable kinky M/M romance "Love Spanks," I was eager to dig into their other books. I was surprised to discover that they mainly write M/M/M books, starting with this series, "Rebels and Nerds." Now, that combo also hits all my buttons--gay, straight, lesbian, or anything else, I'm a sucker for the rebel/nerd combo, and it can only get better with another player!

This is a sweet start to the series. Ezra is spunky and free-spirited, eager to spread his wings and find someone special. Irving is one his shy customers at the comic shop he works at, and though the two men hit it off and become good friends, they both crave a more dominant romantic partner. Enter Brick, a brooding ex-fighter who works as a bouncer at the tough bar down the street. He agrees to keep an eye on the comic shop after it was vandalized, and he's soon attracted to both geeky guys, despite knowing he's no good for them.

This book has a great mix of kink, romance, and story. Brick's dark background slowly comes to light, and we fear for Ezra and Irving as they get in over their heads trying to be close to Brick. I think they all have good chemistry, and I like how Ezra and Irving like each other romantically with cuddles and kisses but don't need sex with each other to be happy. I also like how Brick completes them, but not only sexually. His dominance, street smarts, and confidence do wonders for both men, and they balance each other out perfectly.

I really enjoy this whole series. Though this isn't my favorite of the books, it's probably my second!

I’m still confused why I enjoy R. Cayden as much as I do. Like other books by this author, While I generally like complicated novels, “Brick’s Geeks” (the first of the Rebels and Nerds series) has a simple plot and characters. But each word rings true, the characters are like folks we know, and the emotions completely believable. With Cayden, simple is better!

“Brick’s Geeks” is the story of three young men, two of whom have been discarded by family for their sexuality. In one another, they find the strength to be their best selves.

But first, there’s the issue of Brick’s past as a fighter who angered the wrong mob boss, creating a “trail of destruction in my path.” He meets Ezra and Irving, introverts who run from reality through comic books and computer code respectively. After vandals graffiti Ezra’s comic store he hires Brick, who works as a bouncer in the bar across from his comic store, to watch out. Ezra doesn’t know the vandal is son of Brick’s old mob boss’s son. To save him, Ezra and Irving must step up to the plate. How can Geeks ever protect, much less heal a cornered, terrified Brick of a man?

In “Brick’s Geeks “ Cayden skillfully matches the most unlikely of lovers. And he demonstrates why these three wouldn’t work as any of the possible couples in their triad, a true feat Each corner of this triangle is strong. Ezra may be a lost boy, but he can call it as it is “You’re just going to prove everyone right, Brick! Is that what you really want to do?” he bravely accuses an enraged Brick, who is about to sell himself short. And Irving, who has been treated badly by family, knows how to create and a strengthen a bond through sacrifice.

In short, Cayden brings together average people with decent values, sets intimacy norms on their ear, and manages to tell great stories with lovable characters. “Brick’s Geeks” is a great example! No wonder I want to read more of Cayden’s work.

Love in unexpected places!

Three men. Three different lives. Running from his past Brick. A very happy, cute and bubbly Ezra. And a shy, broken-hearted nerd Irving. What could these guys have in common right? How would they click?

Ezra and Irving are two different types of geeks. Ezra is into drawing and comics, Irving is into computer coding and games. Brick meanwhile is running from his past that involved prize fighting.

The start of the story was a little bit slow, this is where we read the backgrounds of Ezra and Irving, how their lives are, and what Brick basically does at the dive bar. Things start to get really interesting when the mob boss got wind of Brick’s whereabouts through his vandal of a son.

Innocence, coupled with brattiness and submissiveness, I think Brick found his oasis in Ezra and Irving, if only the mob wasn’t after him! Ezra and Irving are attracted to each other, but they feel that there is something missing still...and what do you know, maybe Brick is the one they need to complete them. But Brick does not think highly of what he deserves, he does not have any future as far as he can see. And now in order to gain back his life, he has to fight for the last time. He used to have a dream, and having met Ezra and Irving, he can’t help but feel that maybe, maybe he has a future after all? A story of self-discovery, hope and love! An unlikely love found between unlikely people.

OMG, the love in this one, it is sooooo awesome! Ezra, Irving, and Brick are just so special together, and the way that they connect and take care of each other is just something so beautiful and so sweet, and not something that you see in every story out there.

I love Ezra and his enthusiasm and his love for everything and how he is just so optimistic and wants to make everyone so wonderful. How he drags in Brick and how he gets Irving out of himself is just so great. He has such a sweet heart and is the total emotion in their relationship.

Irving is very astute and has a lot of insight into what's going on in his world and with the men that he cares for. He is very logical and is definitely the problem-solver in their trio. He also cares very deeply about everything.

Brick's protective instincts are so strong that he just wants to make sure that everyone he cares about is safe, ad he is willing to do all kinds of things to make sure that they are safe.

I love how Ezra and Irving are together. They love each other, they are boyfriends, they are so tactile, and even if they have some issues with bedroom things, they do what they can to make each other feel good, and they both they know that they love each other. That love doesn't exclude Brick though. They are happyy to have him right there with them.
