I really enjoyed this book because of the perspective - I think I’d enjoy a 2019 version of this as well. Love the discussion and the analysis, just a bit out of date.

Just read a chapter of this with student--it was set in a small dynamic school within a big struggling school in Oakland. Chideya includes lots of observations and interviews with students and is one of those writers whose fresh language makes you not be able to put the book down. About a future America where the dialogue around race moves beyond black/white.
