Recent election success across the continent strikingly demonstrates the endurance of the extreme right in Europe. Piero Ignazi's volume provides the definitive account of this important political phenomenon. What is its significance? Why have such parties prospered in some countries and not others? Who votes for them and why? These are some of the questions that the book aims to answer during the course of its broad-ranging analysis.
A good overview of the current situation of right wing parties in Europe, with some background discussion of definition, classification etc. This updated edition contains a necessary 'epilogue' which updates us on what has happened since the first edition.
Chapter 1+2 are the most interesting. The rest is mostly 'case-studies', which can be read for those with particular interest for particular countries/parties.
Biggest problem with this book is probably the lack of consensus. Both among researchers of the Right, as well as consensus as to what the Right actually is; and if anything definitive can be said about this political segment.
This is an old book,2000, 16 years ago when the usage of the internet was lower than now and we did not have access to these infos here and also everything changed since there, the far right got its momentum and the issue of immigration stronger than is even more stronger now. This is a compelling book from the creation of the first ultra right wing european movements in the 1920s to the years 2000. Interesting if you like this type of topic
