A colourful and beautifully illustrated tale of a chicken called Chicken Licken who has an acorn fall on her head whilst playing. Fearing and thinking the sky is falling down she embarks on a journey to go and inform the king. Along the way she meets one by one several other characters whom she tells the sky is falling down and she is on her way to tell the king. They agree to join him and travel to inform the king. Finally they meet a fox called Foxy Loxy who greets them and inquires where they are rushing to. After Chicken Licken tells Foxy the reason, Foxy tells Chicken Licken that he knows where to find the king and will take them there. Unknowingly for them he takes them to his den where his family of foxes is waiting for their dinner and they eat all of them.

This is suitable for KS1 where for reception the story can be read to the children as group reading whilst enjoying the beautiful illustrations. There is rhyming in all the names of the characters and children in year 2 could be asked to identify this and asked to compare this to some poems. Children could also be asked to think of a different ending to the story.
