OUTSTANDING!
Thats the short review/version and the word that came to my mind as I read the last word of this terrifyingly brilliant book!

Rachel had her life ruined by a stalker many years ago, he was jailed, all she has to cope with now ( alongside her Nursing career ) is the threat of her anorexia returning and her past family regrets.....BUT coping she is, loving life with her daughter Lily and fella Konrad, life is almost perfect
But then the impossible happens....she begins to be stalked

I don't know what is going on, but I like it. I have been on a streak of really good mystery/thrillers and The Regret by Dan Malakin was no exception!

What it's about: Rachel Stone's world was shattered when she was just a teenager by a stalker named Alan Griffin. Now she has a three-year-old daughter named Lily and has rebuilt her life, but as someone seems to start stalking her again and ruining her life as she knows it, old demons will rise again to the surface and threaten everything.

Author, Dan Malakin, created a dynamic storyline that held me captive from beginning to end. Having taken on the lifelike qualities of a 3D image, the main protagonist was portrayed in magnificent detail. With no wasted ink merely to fill empty space, the momentum of the chilling scenes progressed in lockstep with the heart-wrenching narrative. Just when I thought the climax was about to be unleashed, a startling twist jumped out unexpectedly and slapped me across the face like a cold, wet ...more

Rachel Stone was stalked a few years back. It's take time and patience, but she's finally got her life on track. She's in a new relationship, has a 3-year-old daughter, and is a nurse working in the local hospital.

Someone is stalking her again. Her phone, her emails and her social media are hacked. She's afraid that it's her previous stalker, Alan Griffith. She checks with the prison and finds that he was released just 2 weeks ago. She's really worried that he is looking for revenge.

But no one

What a fantastic read this was! I mean what more could you ask for? There's the stellar cast, a beautifully plotted story and fascinating insight into the daily life of those who have been stalked or scammed and the knock-on effect this can have on their lives for the foreseeable future. Not only this but it packed a real emotional punch too. Right from the beginning, you are drawn into a tale it is easy to immerse yourself in and losing a couple of hours between the pages was very enjoyable. I ...more

WOW!!! A great psychological thriller from the first page to the last. Rachel is a recovering anorexic whose life was turned upside down as a young woman however she has gotten everything back under control until she finds out that the man who caused her to break down before is now out of prison. So is he responsible for her misery again or could it be someone else.?
This book is taut and has the reader on a roller-coaster of emotions. Dan Malakin's description of anorexia can be harrowing at

“The Regret” by Dan Malakin is a taut and suspenseful read. It’s his debut psychological thriller and I highly enjoyed it. The characters are blended together very well. He spins red herrings throughout the pages to delay the reader from discovering who is terrorising Rachel.
I found the identity fraud an interesting concept and didn’t realise the work that goes into it.
A fantastic book which kept me thoroughly glued to its pages. I cannot wait to read more from this well written author.

I have a weird love for stalker/obsession type of books. Rachel already had to deal with Alan once - now he's out of prison and things start to go awry again. It MUST be him, nothing else makes sense. This triggers her paranoia and ongoing bout with anorexia and here we delve straight into her dark mind where even we don't know what's truly happening.

What I loved about this book is the terror in how easily it is for someone who is capable to take control of your life via technology. Honestly

Rachel is a single mum to her daughter Lily. When Rachel was younger, she was diagnosed with anorexia and spent a lot of time in hospital getting the help she needed. Thanks to a photo taken by a friend, she ended up becoming ridiculed and then stalked by a man called Alan Griffin. Rachel is now coping with her anorexia until her life seems to be falling apart again. Her social media accounts have been hacked, her money taken from her account and she’s been suspended from work. Who can Rachel ...more

Firstly I gotta give a shout out for the cover. I usually don’t mention the covers but this is so good.

Rachel has struggled to get her life back after an awful time with a stalker. Now he’s in prison she’s finally happy with a young daughter that lights up her life.

Unfortunately everything changes when she starts getting stalked again.

This storyline is so good. It certainly shows that the author did his homework on the subject.
Highly recommend this read.

Trigger alert: EXTENSIVE description of main character's battle with anorexia. If this is a trigger for you, consider avoiding this book.

I so wish I had read this book a month ago instead of now. It has several chapters where it explains in detail exactly how hackers and scammers do their dirty deeds. I let myself fall victim to a scammer last month, and even though I am well aware of how they work, if I'd read this book before it happened I think I would have been more alert and wouldn't

First pet me thank the author for the Arc and a chance to read this book.
I have recently got into more dark novels and this one was dark and disturbing.
It deals with so many issues such as stalking and abuse. It is a hard book to read to a point but it was written so well.
I was shocked at just how dark this book was. It had just what I needed and was very psychological. This is something that i really liked and it kept me enthralled with the book from beginning to end.
The characters were well

My copy of The Regret was sent to me alongside a bag of chocolate. Now I’m not saying I’m easily bribed, but chocolate always helps!

Topless photos being sent over the internet, doxing, cyber bullying. All of these things I am hyper aware of at the moment as my eldest is of the age where mobile phones and Snapchat loom. So I was terrified to read the extent it can all go wrong when reading The Regret.

The concept is a text gone wrong and the devastating, long lasting implications of this. Yet it’s

I really enjoyed this highly entertaining read. The author has written a superb debut that will have you hooked from the beginning. After a dsyfunctional upbringing and tragic events that happened to Rachel in her teens, Rachel is finallytrying her best to live a normal life, (something that she has always wanted but never had) with her 3 year old daughter and her boyfriend, and works as a nurse doing a job that she enjoys. Rachel now finds her life is suddenly spiralling out of control. Who is ...more

When Rachel was a teenager her life was ruined by a stalker, Alan Griffin. As a result her anorexia really took hold and she became very ill and hospitalised.

With the help of her friend, Mark, they turned the tables on him and Griffin was jailed. Rachel recovered and now has a daughter with her friend Mark, but recently, odd things have been happening in her life….an old photo was sent to her boyfriend, his and her friends, and messages have been sent from her phone, then her salary is taken for

OK, I'll start by making it clear that the author contacted me, as a reviewer and blogger to ask if I would be interested in having a look at his book. I agreed and he sent me a copy. I also bought a copy for kindle as it was on offer and I was going on holiday (and prefer to use my kindle then)

Anyhoo, onto the book itself. This is an, at times, dark read. The lead character, Rachel, is a recovering anorexic who was stalked as a teenager (which lead to her problems). The stalker was sent to jail

First time I am reading this author. I love new authors and this one is fantastic. The book starts are interesting and ends with a bang. Never saw this one (and usually I am good with thrillers, picking up the bad guy right away).

I love when books revolve around technology. Even if it's for evil. Rachel has a stalker and he is making her life miserable. She was hacked via social media and her life changed forever. But she got back at him (again through technology) but just when she thought all

Rachel Stone was having one of those mornings, getting daughter Lily ready for school, her partner Konrad drinking heavy coming home full of bruises, receives an urgent bank check email working at St Pancras Hospital her wages were relied month by month so clicking on the attachment, she got goosebumps, emails just don't disappear, and she found herself logged out of all her accounts. Weird bad stuff start to happen as you read on. Alan Griffin the perv stalker from ten years ago was out

This is my first book by this author, I enjoyed it right from the beginning. I loved that I was pulled into the story right from the beginning. It had me sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the book. The story is creative and well written. The characters are well develped and made the story feel real. Once you open an email you can't take it back as Rachel is about to find out. What happens when you open the wrong email? Rachel is about to find out. I highly recommend this book.

A skittish journey to hell and back seen through the prism of the anorexic and apparently unreliable narrator, The Regret is pacy, nail-biting and at times deeply disturbing. It made me very concerned when my phone started acting up while I was reading it. And I actually let out an audible yelp at one of the scenes in the denouement. Throughout, Dan Malakin keeps you guessing so you’re never sure what’s round the corner for Rachel and her family and friends. And now I’m going to turn all the ...more

Grabs you in the first paragraph

This book is brilliant. I was hooked immediately and taken on journey. Along the way I learnt I witnessed the entrapment of Rachel.
It kept me guessing, and fooled. The ending as good as anything I have read. It was gruesome but ultimately satisfying.
Bloodhound books have got a gem of an author.

An assured and confident debut by an author to watch.

I wanted to review this sooner but a broken bone interrupted my plans. But my metatarsal's loss was my reading gain as I got to sit down (a lot) and read a cracking and very contemporary thriller which had me guessing all the way.

Hidden dangers lurk for Rachel, from her past, from her computer and from her own, damaged psyche and this interplay ratches up the tension little by little until you are turning the pages faster and faster to find

This is a well thought out and researched book, expertly written. The main character Rachel has anorexia which is covered in great detail and handled well throughout. There was a stalker a few years ago who managed to destroy her world once, now he is free, she will not allow him to do so again. But is he stalking her again now?

Rachel has managed to get her life together, is now a nurse and has a three year old daughter Lily. She has a boyfriend Konrad, let her dad back into her life for Lily’s

Before I give you my thoughts, I would just like to give a trigger warning. I don’t normally include these in my reviews but felt it appropriate here. Rachel, the main character is recovering from anorexia, this features heavily in the book. As does mental health issues.

This story is about Rachel who has struggled with and is still coming to terms with her disturbed late teens, where a person called Alan Griffin used to stalk her. He hacked into all her social media accounts, stalking her wherever she went and made her life a complete mess. This paved the way for anorexia to get a grip over her (which her mother too suffered from) and things worsened so much that she had to be put into care.
With the help of her friend, Mark, who she met at the rehab centre;
