A rip your heart out love story , that holds your attention.
Julie has always been one of my favourite authors, this shows me why . Excellent book!

Brodee needs to prove to himself and his King that he has what it takes to rule his own domain .
When King David gives him a castle and a wife , as long as he throws out the present Laird , he jumps at the chance of land .
But a wife , no , that wasn’t on his agenda.

Patience has had enough of marriage, twice now she’s been given to a cruel man , a

How to Heal a Highland Heart by Julie Johnstone is book 9 in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts Series. This is the story of Patience Kincaide and Brodee Blackswell. I have read the previous book (and Loved IT!!) but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Brodee is a strong highlander who has been the right hand man to the King every since he proved himself when he left to serve as the enforcer for the King of Scots. Brodee had hoped one day to be reward with lands so

Brodee is a tad bit touchy when it comes to his manliness, “I told ye that ye dunnae call warriors tender,” he grumbled. “I’m nae tender.” I liked that Patience found her voice and ai liked Brodee.

I didn’t think it was possible for The Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series to get any better but Julie Johnstone blew me away with How to Heal a Highland Heart. This is without a doubt, my favourite book in the series. I couldn’t get enough of the story or the writing. I was thoroughly captivated. Julie writes with such emotion and I was able to feel it all. I completely fell in love with the characters too!! I loved Brodee, he was such a strong and enticing character with a tender side. Pa ...more

How to Heal a Highland Heart is the ninth book in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series by Julie Johnstone. It can easily be read as a standalone.

Brodee Blackswell, AKA the Savage Slayer has been the King's right-hand man. He has done exceedingly well and as a reward, the King has given him his own castle and lands to govern. Of course, he has to fight to take possession of the said castle, but it will be easy enough to do. He is happy to accept that part of the reward, what he isn't as h

Be prepared for your heart to be engaged as this magical story of two wounded souls are brought together. Just when I thought surely Julie could not possibly surpass the last book she wrote, she of course does and with a hero and heroine I could not help but love.
A man who set out to prove himself, Brodee was awarded a castle by the king but it came with a wife. That is after he took the castel and killed the Laird. He was determined to not give his heart again but sometimes the heart has a mind

Don’t Let This Pass You By

A full 5 stars. It started out catching your attention and holds you there. a little way in I fell I love with Brodee and he just kept getting better, he had all the qualities you dream of in a hero. The story was so touching, and I thought this can’t get any better. I had such sympathy for Patience, with the history she had, but she kind of come out of it. The intrigue really came out, with all the twists and turns to keep you on edge. I couldn’t put it down, needing t

This is the 9th book in the Entangled Hearts series, written superbly by Julie Johnstone.

Through out this series I have loved the character of Brodee, and finally he gets his HEA.

Brodee Blackswell has always wanted his own land/castle and finally it is within his reach when King David gives him a castle for his years of loyalty unfortunately for Brodee there is an attachment involved, he is to marry Lady Patience Kincarde.

Let the fun begin, actual laugh out loud moments of this book, I could not

IF I could I would rate this 6 stars!!! My heart is still pounding. I seriously can not believe how Julie Johnstone's books command complete control over my beating heart rate!!! {(Heavy Sigh)} Ok this story is about Brodee, the younger brother (of a couple of breaths) of Broch (When a Highlander Weds a Hellion) who after leaving his clan to make his own way in the world, becomes the right hand of King David. King David has nicknamed Brodee the Savage Slayer. He has earned it, but mostly to prot ...more

When he vows to never give his heart again. . . until he meets her.

Being born the second meant one thing, you would have to make your own way in the world - even if you were a twin. Brodee fought many battles for the king, but none for himself. When he's finally promised a castle, there was a catch: he'd have to marry the widow once the siege was over. Fine, he thought, as long as he never had to give his heart again. And sometimes, those inner battles are more difficult to win than the ones on

How to Heal a Highland Heart is book 9 in the Entangled Hearts series by Julie Johnstone. Even though this is book 9, it can be read as a stand alone work. Although, I always recommend reading a series in order - it’s just a richer experience. I think Johnstone has written a masterful story. Lady Patience Kincaide is such a precious character. I loved her soft heart and gentle ways. She has already experienced two abusive marriages when she is commanded to marry the Savage Slayer, Brodie Blacksw ...more

Both hero and heroine carry baggage as most relationship do. In this case, neither truly want to wed, but the command of the king and Brodee Blackswell’s need to have a keep of his own, a dream which normally doesn’t happen when a male is not first born, is most powerful.

Patience wants to avoid marriage because she’d been in two other marriages where neither were bliss. Why would she put herself into a position to be ridiculed and abused again?

But marry they must and marry they do. Brodee is a g

Brodee Blackswell has been rewarded lands and a title of his own from the King. The only downside is he has to marry to claim it. The likelihood of the woman feeling any better about it than him is low. She is the widow of a man he killed for the King and daughter of a man who recently changed allegiance.
Patience Kincade has now had two abusive husbands and her father has now written and told her she has to marry again. She knows he is using her for his own purposes, that's what he's always don

This is the 9th book in this series and like the others is an exciting and thrilling story with danger and lies, trust and lack thereof all building to that page turning romance that Ms Johnstone does well.

Abused, degraded, and made fun of by the entire clan, Patience was for the third time to be wed to someone she does not know.

Brodee was the right hand of the king, since he saved the king, he is given lands, a castle and the hand of the previous laird’s wife.

A touching story about a woman who has been subject to a couple of the worst of men trying to learn to trust again. I really liked the way Brodee tries to win her trust and her love. Julie Johnstone has worked domestic violence into a touchi

Two souls scared by life, determined not to open their hearts again are brought together by forces out with their control. This is another fantastic Scottish Medieval story by Julie Johnstone. Julie’s characters are so true of the era, tall, broad, strong, brave men and the woman are determined, fearless and just as strong. This is a time when honor was important and clans truly were families who lived and died for each other. It is a love story set against a turbulent time in Scotland’s history ...more

Patience can't believe that she is being forced to marry again. After losing two husbands, whom were very cruel to her, she can't imagine going through it a third time. With a nickname of the Savage Slayer, she doesn't have any hope that this marriage will be any better than the others. When her intended comes upon her during a moment of whimsy, she decides to act like she is crazy. Maybe if he believes her, she won't have to marry for the third time.

You could read this as a stand-alone, but I am a order reader and prefer to read an entire series. You do meet both Brodee and William in other books! What I appreciate most about Julie Johnstone books is description of places or her use of their Scottish language. The books give to an authentic time where you can visualize the ...more

Marvelous

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. This book was a great addition to this series. The plot and characters were marvelous. Brodee deserved the castle and his new lovely wife, Patience. Patience deserved a warrior willing to love and fight for her. This book was one of my favorites. Now I shall go into a book funk mood because it will be hard to find a book to enjoy as much as I did this one. Now I am waiting for William's book. It should be on so good.

Julie Johnstone has authored another winning, sensual, historical Scottish romance with this adventurous story about Patience’s and Brodee’s arranged marriage and subsequent hijinks in the “getting to know you” courtship following their marriage. There is some intrigue, too, which adds to the excitement of their tale. A delightful read!

As a little girl I loved to create fantasy worlds and then give all my friends roles to play. Of course, I was always the heroine! Books have always been an escape for me and brought me so much pleasure, but it didn't occur to me that I could possibly be a writer for a living until I was in a career that was not my passion. One day, I decided I wanted to craft stories like the ones I loved, and wi ...more
