Averie
Can you hear it?
The pounding of his heart. The deafening roar of the crowd.
Football games have been a thing of the past, ever since the love of my life died playing it.

One year later, my mom decides to help me to leave it all behind. So here I am. New school. New outlook. A new me, still trying to stop the grieving, and still trying to avoid anything to do with a game I’ve come to hate.

In some cruel twist of fate, I meet Ashton.
I’m instantly drawn to him with no idea who he is until it all begins to make sense. His height, his physique, his long, powerful arm hurling a football. Ashton Haigen is Alpen Springs High top-notch quarterback.

Suddenly, I’m back in the game I swore I would never be in again, only this time, I have a choice. But how does one choose their own heart, over the one that beats for them?

How can I put my past behind me and learn to love again?

'CAN YOU HEAR IT' is a full length New Adult | Sports Romance novel by Casey Diam. Spoken in 'Dual POV's'

it's a new year for Averie, new life, new school, new crowd, allowing her to leave her heartbreak in her old town where she tragically lost her boyfriend in a blink of an eye, starting fresh as a senior in high school. She's spiralling down a self destructive path numbing the pain as much as she can on a daily basis. Everyone knows her story.

Ashton the Star QuarterBack has always had a slight crush on Averie but she was always attached to James, now that she's attending his school he fights everything within himself to keep her at arms length. He has his own reasons for doing so. But he could see how she was spiralling out of control and something within him called to him to help her.

The girl I'd had more wet dreams about than I could count was here. In my part of the city. In my school. In my world.

But when they meet their attraction is instant!!

Going into this I had no clue what was going to come at me. I never expected to feel so many emotions, to connect to the storyline like I did, to connect to these characters in the way that I did.
The feels just came out of nowhere hitting me full force.

This ticked more than one box. The angst, the drama, the giggles, the sexy times all made for an unputdownable unique unforgettable read.
I loved our heroine and hero, they were just utterly perfect for each other. A slow burn friendship that progressed into so much more. I loved the pace of their story. I loved getting so wrapped up in their romance that the outside world ceased to exist.

From the cover to the synopsis to the author to the storyline this cemented even more why I am so glad I gave this book a chance.

So glad we're getting more of the characters we were introduced to in this!!

And... this new-to-me author has found a new fan! This story was full of teenage angst, drama, youthful optimism, and feels. Are you ready to fall in love with Averie and Ashton?

Averie was a heartbroken 18 year old girl trying to survive her last year in high school. After tragedy struck, her mother moved them to a new house, with a new man, a new school, and maybe some new hope? Using 'crutches' just to make it through the day, Averie finds a new circle of friends who help her heal and move on. Who knew the star quarterback, #2 in the country, would be the guy to pick up her pieces and handle her heart so carefully?

Ashton was an idealistic 18 year old boy, star quarterback, popular, super freaking sweet, and a secret keeper. Most of what he did was pretty typical, but this boys heart... I really need you to discover the details for yourself. Just know that with a friend like him, compassionate and understanding, supportive and caring, Averie's tendency to spiral didn't stand a chance.

Casey Diam took a story about two on-the-brink adults and gave it depth, development and devilry. With a bevy of side characters I couldn't stop myself from being invested in, this series starter has most assuredly sealed my interest. Her writing, the way she manipulates her characters, the way she manipulated me, all make me want more of her words. Looking for a sweet, steamy, small town sports romance with a lot of heart? Look no further!

This book was enjoyable (mostly) for me. 👍 However, I just don't think I am the target audience for this genre. 😂 All anyone did in this book was party, drink, smoke weed and have sex lives worthy of forty-year-olds. 👀 Not to mention the ridiculous amount of catty mean girl OW drama. 😈 It left me rolling my eyes a lot... 👀

description

That said, a lot of the above stuff lessened in the second half of the book (thankfully) and from there on out I found it a much more likable read. 🙌 It was well written. 👍 The plot was engaging. 👍 Ash was a super sweet hero. 💗 Not a manwhore, but I could have done without him sleeping with a teacher. 😷 It was a super pointless addition to the story. 👎 Especially because Averie never (or anyone for that matter) finds out about it. 🙈 Averie was a good heroine. 💗 Sweet. 🍭 Not a virgin. ☑ Both her and Ash were super cute together. 💑 It also had a good cast of secondary characters. 👤👤👤👤 Kudos to the author for making one guy a virgin (although I suspect he may be the "in the closet guy". 🚪 I guess we'll see. 👀 Last, it was all wrapped up in a sweet (maybe a little rushed) ending. 👍

Received a copy for an honest review

This was a really good book! It took me a little bit to connect to the characters but once I did, it was a sweet love story. There are not that many NA books that are set in a high school setting and I really liked how the author gave the book a feel of what actually happens in high school and not make it a young adult version which most high school settings are in other books. I liked the growth of Averie. I liked how she matured through the book and learned how to deal with her depression over the loss she experienced. Overall, this was a sweet romance about dealing with depression and learning to live with something that could change your dreams but the new dreams can be just as good!

This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster and really tugs on the heartstrings. The writing was so vivid that I could picture every scene. It gives you all the feels and makes you feel everything. It was such a page turner and I could not put it down. I just loved the characters and felt that Averie and Ashton just clicked from the very start and I loved reading about their story together and watching them both grow.

This book ticked all the boxes. The angst, the drama, the fun moments, the sexy times all made for an unputdownable and unforgettable read. I loved the two main characters, they were just perfect for one other. A slow burn friendship that progressed into so much more. I loved the pacing of their story and I loved getting so invested and wrapped up in their romance. A brilliant start of a new series.

I love Casey Diam writing I'm a big fan. This book can be very emotional and heartbreaking at times. Averie has had a hard year. To make it easier her mom decides she needs to start over. Her mom knows nothing about Averie or what's good for her. Poor Averie had been alone for along time other than her bestie Nickky.

Ash sees Averie and he is shocked to see her. The girl he always wanted from afar. Now she is near him and he can't stop wanting her. You will fall in love with Ash as I did. I can't wait for more books of this series. This book was so good I couldn't put it down.

Disclaimer: This review MAY contain spoilers. I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

I am so over the moon right now! I inhaled this book faster than a Snickers bar. This book elicited so many different feelings and when I finished the last page I was so satisfied.

The characters in this story are ones that will embed themselves in your heart. While Ash and Averie were both incredible characters, I also loved that the side characters are ones that the reader also falls in love with. I really can't wait to read the stories of some of the other characters in this book. The side characters are interesting and you can't help but want to know more and want to know what is going on in their minds as well. The side characters and the main characters have great chemistry with each other. It was very natural and soothing. Averie and Ash's characters are ones that you can't help but love. Your heart really goes out to them and the author makes identifying with them so easy through the excellent writing. Averie is in a dark place and is essentially alone after the death of her long-time boyfriend. She is struggling to cope with his loss and also having to shoulder is all by herself because of her absent parents. Ashton struggles with his feelings for Averie in the face of an insurmountable personal secret. Both main characters experienced incredible growth and they both had a lot of depth to start with. I simply adored them.

At the beginning of the story, I thought that Ash's feelings for Averie were a little strange. He has been crushing on her for a long time after seeing her at football games when his team would play against her old school. He would see her and how supportive she was of her then-boyfriend and a little crush grew from that. It isn't unheard of, for sure, but at first, it seemed odd to me that his feelings for her were so strong because of a little crush. He didn't really know her enough to feel so strongly, at least in my opinion. Though as the story goes on he and Averie hang out and he gets to know the real her. He can see her struggle over the loss of her ex-boyfriend and he can see the downward spiral that she is in. He wants to help her in any way that he can. He doesn't want to see her drown. The fact that he saw this in her was very romantic. He saw what no one else could see, that she needed help. Their initial interactions were based on attraction, yes, but I don't know that I would define it as insta-love or not. It's a fine line, really. They do get to know each other and they enjoy spending time with each other. And what's better is that they really bring out the best in each other when they are together. Ash is extremely romantic in the story and his gestures had me swooning. Averie's concern for Ash was just as touching. The two of them really made a perfect pair and their love story was beautiful.

The plot of this story is excellent and the flow of events is pretty perfect. I was completely drawn into this story and I couldn't pull myself away from it. The only thing that I would have changed would have been the urgency of the conflicts that occur in the story. There are some serious issues that cause conflict for the characters, but the unfolding of them didn't feel entirely dramatic enough. Serious, yes. But I would have liked the characters to experience more in terms of their conflicts than they did. The story is still great without this, but I believe that it would have added something more to the story to add the urgency.

Overall, this book really wowed me. There is so much to love about this book. This story is moving, inspiring, and heartwarming. The characters bring the story to life and it's a story that you will want to hold in your heart. This book is a journey that I encourage you to take. I'm so excited for more books in this series and for more books from this author!

I really loved Averie and Ashton together they were a great couple. Averie had lost someone and the good girl had gone a little bad as she tried to cope with her feelings. Along comes Ashton and we get to see a friendship turn to romance but Ashton is hiding something. Averie deals with this all well, Ashton really helps her and then he goes and has a 'man' moment and pushes her away big style. Luckily we do get a HEA so all good! The secondary characters are all very likeable and I look forward to reading their books (especially Ashton's dad - what a cool and funny guy)

Averie is the new girl at school, but she is not new to Ashton, he noticed this strikingly beautiful girl a long time ago. She captured his attention during a football game with his rival team, and from that point on she has constantly found a way to slip into his thoughts. But it is evident that his beautiful little distraction is slipping of out of control, she's just on the edge of completely losing herself. He knows her painful past, that she has faced an unimaginable loss in the last year, and he knows exactly what it feels like to lose... cause he has been where she is at. As much as he knows she is a complication he doesn't need in his carefully planned world, he also knows that she needs a friend, one that can get her back on track... and he wants to be that friend. But is that all he wants?

From the very first page of Can You Hear It I was pulled into these characters lives, easily finding a home with them, and quickly resonating with them. These two carried a lot of pain with them, at times almost more than one could bare. But as soon as they met you could see that pain begin to ease, a connection being formed, and healing begin to start. They brought out the best in one another, their friendship linking them in a way no one else understood. This slow burning romance was a beautiful thing to watch unfold, Ashton luring Averie out of her dim world, giving her a safe place to fall and heal, and being the special someone worthy of opening her heart to. I loved everything about this first time read, the story line had an innocence and tenderness to it that tugged on my heartstrings, the words were absorbing and deeply moving, and the characters were easy to love and connect to. I highly recommend you get your hands on this captivating tale, it's perfectly penned words will hold you hostage from beginning to end!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

This book was so good. There was a ton of emotion and it just kept me wanting to drive the long way around everywhere I went because I didn’t want to get out of the car and have to stop listening.

At first I wasn’t enjoying the drugs and alcohol parts because it is high school students. But when you realize that it is part of the story and she will learn from it and be where she won’t need it anymore, it all worked okay for me.

There was a lot with both her family and also the people in the school, mean girls if you will, that made for a very well-developed story with lots of things going on. Not too much, it was really just perfect. The scenes were very steamy, probably a little older than I would give to high school students to read as a school librarian, which is why I call this New Adult in my genre chosen for this review. The name of the school was Alpen Springs, or at least the town name, and that at first bugged me because I kept thinking it should be Alpine without paying attention to the spelling in the title. But that’s my silliness. The setting of a Colorado town with lots of snow made me also wonder if the treacherous weather might be a factor in the story at some point, and so when it did kind of make an appearance, I was like, yeah, I knew it.

As I said, a great story, one I was very invested in and was listening to on the edge of my seat to see where it would all go. I’ll be looking forward to more books from this author in the future.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘Can You Hear It’, by Casey Diam, was an emotional roller coaster of a novel for me! While reading this book I experienced an array of emotions from extreme love to irreparable loss, followed by forbidden love and a double dose of angst.

This is the first book I’ve read by Casey Diam and I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was incredible and the emotions came across very relatable.

No spoilers here....you must read this book for yourself!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t emphasis enough how much I loved reading this book. 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!!

Casey is a new author to me and even after just one book I'm a huge fan.

I love when books intrigue me to the point that I can't put them down. Averie and Ashton were believable and relatable characters. The author wrote their stories with such depth and passion I defy you not to fall in love with them.

Averie's pain is like a living breathing entity, it's in all her actions and every decision she makes. Ashton is the star quarterback who's keeping secrets. I really loved then together, the way he steps up to protect her mostly from herself. The slow build from friendship to lovers was beautiful.

A coming of age story and one about overcoming heartbreak and loss.

Really loved this story! Sexy and angsty. So good!

"Every cell in my body reacted to Ash all the time. He consumed every part of me, even when I wasn't with him."

When tragedy strikes Averie Mozey's life, she ends up moving to a new school for her senior year. Her life has been secretly spiralling out of control until she meets Ashton Haigen - her reaction to him is like nothing she's ever experienced before. Unbeknownst to her, Ashton has long held a torch for Averie but never thought he'd have a chance with her. Now that she's at his school, he still believes that he doesn't have a chance with her - although his heart is telling him the opposite.

"I've never felt anything like this...I want to stay inside you forever."

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. My heart really went out to Averie as she faced her struggle of trying to get through each day using her personal crutches. I couldn't believe how blind her mother was to her own daughter's issues. I loved the impact that Ash had on her life and her behaviour, and that she wanted to be better for him. I was a big fan of Ash's - I didn't always agree with his decisions but I adored that he had Averie's well-being and heart as his priorities. I loved that he wanted to help. The chemistry and draw between them was gorgeous and irresistible. I loved their connection and I loved that he'd wanted her from afar for so long.

I also really loved Ash's relationship with his dad - it was really beautiful. His dad was pretty darn cool! I loved this author's writing style and looking forward to reading more from her.

I don't normally read high school romances, but this one is a true gem. It's emotional, heartfelt, tragic, beautiful, inspiring, and shows just how many hardships teenagers go through. No matter your age, heartbreak can change us all, an this book did a really good job at showing that.

Averie is trying to piece her life back together after being completely devestated, but her grief has her acting in ways that are so unlike her. When she meets Ashton she recognizes the pain in his eyes but refuses to get close to anyone ever again. These two do form a beautiful friendship despite that, and it blossoms into an extraordinary love.. But the secret Ashton is holding onto can demolish it all to the ground.

I did truly like this book, but my only complaint was how slow it was in the beginning. I'm glad I stuck it out because this is a book you don't want to miss!!

Wow. Wow. Wow.  This book had all the feels, and still leaves me speechless.  When Averie's world is turned upside down, she turns to drugs and alcohol to ease her pain.  Nothing makes sense anymore.  Why bother living if the love of your life has left you in the most horrific way?

Enter Ashton, who is bound to prove to Averie that her life is worth something.  Ashton has always wanted Averie, and now he has to show her that she is the one for him, and that he will help her heal all her pain and show her a beautiful love to last her a lifetime.

This was my first read by this author, but certainly won't be my last!

Ever unable to resist a football romance, I was drawn to this alluring mix of football, YA/NA, angst-fest based on the blurb and the cover alone, and so I had to take a chance on this new-to-me author.

And?

It did not disappoint!

There’s something in the way Ms. Diam has written her characters that was positively addictive to me. The storyline was occasionally a little bumpy for me, but I attached quickly and fiercely to the characters. And not even just Averie and Ashton, whose story was – as promised – filled with all kinds of intense emotion and fiery passion. The secondary characters? I fell a little bit in love with them too. And in the end, I think it was this sort of fantastic character-development that completely won me over.

Well, that and the fact that the story itself played out like some kind of crazy addictive CW show storyline. I cannot resist these sort of emotional, angsty - with the slightest shades of darkness hazing up the edges – types of stories. I did sometimes feel like I was left with some dangling threads, however. In some ways I kept expecting the angst to ramp up to explosive levels, but instead things sort of fizzled out completely and disappeared, which made me feel like the storyline wandered unnecessarily sometimes. I mean, I gobbled the story up, regardless, but still maybe would have liked some of those disappearing threads to have been resolved.

Niggling complaints aside, I still really enjoyed this book. It was emotional and compelling, but also playful and salaciously saucy. It’s definitely a very mature read. Don’t let the fact that these characters are in high school fool you, they mostly function as adults and things get pretty steamy. They’re also endearing and heartwarming and caused me to sigh and swoon on more than one occasion. And I suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg. I am definitely invested to the point where I need to know where things go from here. I want everyone else’s stories, and so I am 100%, all-in for more! ~ Shelly, 3.5 Stars

What an intense story. Taking place, Averie and Ashton’s senior year of high school, the two fight their attraction to one another. She is broken, lost, in self destruct mode after losing her childhood sweetheart in a tragic twist of fate. He is an up and coming football star living with hIs own demons. I had a hard time putting the book down, I needed to find out what would happen next. I just loved the way the story flowed and how they both fought their attraction to one another but ultimately could not. Theirs is a beautiful love story and their HEA left me with a huge smile on my face. I’d also like to give a shoutout to the other characters in this book that help make it so good - Ryker, Brody and sexy firefighter dad Will and am happy to hear that their stories will come out too. Also, I really enjoyed downloading the music mentioned throughout, it made it that much more real. This is a phenomenal book.

This book has had me smiling and crying, had my heart beating faster and torn in two. Such an emotional ride. The writing was so vivid that I could see every scene in my mind's eye.

I was totally empathetic to Averie and I suffered with her. She was dealt a Huge blow and had no one to turn to for comfort, so sad. I fell in love with Ashton right along with her.

Ashton has his reasons for wanting to stay away from the girl of his dreams; they are valid but really? Why not just be happy? What a sweetie he is. I was swept into their lives and loved every moment. I loved the side characters, they were so real too and I can’t wait to read their stories.

I love Casey Diam’s stories and this one was no exception. What a brilliant start to a new series of standalone stories.

This is the first book in a series and I can‘t wait for the next one.
Prepare to be swept off your feet! The slowburn romance from strangers to friends to lovers between Averie, heartbroken after tragedy struck and Ashton, football quarterback with a secret will captivate you.
The author knows how to make you forget that there is a world outside this book. It was impossible to put it down.
The book is written in alternating POV from the 2 main characters, which can often be a challenge to read but Casey Diam has the gift to make it seem effortless. The alternating POV adds to the intensity of the feelings and builds suspense.

This book is so good. It has everything that makes a 5 star book , love, laughter, angst, really great characters and of course a good storyline that keeps you turning the pages. Averie really has no one in her family to help her grieve the loss of James, she turns to drugs and alcohol. Asher is a straight laced quarter back, doesn’t do drugs or alcohol, eats right takes care of his body but is hiding a secret. When they meet it’s instant attraction. I’m really excited about this new series and can’t wait for the next books, especially Ryker and Will’s books. Highly recommended

I just loved this heart warming novel! Seeing these characters come alive and overcome their past is amazing. The portrayal of ash and Averie together is perfect. Hearing and feeling the pain of Averie’s past is gut wrenching. But seeing the growth and the love of ash and Averie is perfection. Sublime perfection!

Secrets.
Deceptions.
Tragedies.
Those were the root of all evil. One of those became the root of mine the day I lost the love of my life. My best friend. My lover.
Everyone disregarded it, saying, “Let’s face it, Averie, you have the rest of your life ahead of you.” They were wrong. James Lawrence was my ever after . . . until Ashton.
If only he didn’t come bearing his own brand of evil.
A secret.
The reason he wanted me to stay away.
I should have listened, and he should have tried harder, but both of us failed. And if we hadn’t, if he had told me when we first met, would it have altered the moment I realized that I was falling for him?
The slight variation in the air. The hitch in my breath. The lightness in my chest.
Impossible to know; I’d already fallen.
I was already ruined.

***A standalone sports romance that takes place in senior year high school. Due to explicit content, this book is suitable for 17+

Stephannie's 5 Star Review:

This is a full length New Adult , Sports Romance novel. It is duo pov of Ashton and Averie. It is a sweet beautiful story of two teens who are both struggling with something. Ashton is the Star quarterback who has always had a crush and envy Averie's boyfriend James who played on the other teams football team.

Averie boyfriend dies and she is heartbroke over it. She loses her way and dabbles into drugs and booze. It's senior year, Averie's at a new school where Ashton goes to high school.

Ashton is trying his best to keep his distance from Averie because he doesn't want to hurt her. He has his own reason for trying to stay away. But she really needs someone and he can't resist. He wants her, she is the girl of his dreams. She within reach and he can't resist especially since their attraction is smoking hot and instant.

Wow, I stumbled upon this book because I love a good sports romance. This one doesn't disappoint. I loved it. I felt for Ashton and Averie and want the best for them. I want them to have their HEA. But can they have that when Ashton is keeping secrets from her? I cried and fell hard for this story and these characters.

It’s not just a romance - it’s a story of letting people help you and overcome fears. She has a masterpiece that will extract every emotion you have. This author deserves more than 5 stars for this book.

She brings you a YA based novel, but gives them much more. They are such amazing, strong people. Their emotion and feelings - along with their chemistry leaps off the pages at you by the descriptions of Casey Diam. This is a rollercoaster you will want to hold on tight. It’s worth the twists and turns once you get to the end.

Averie and Ash - this one couple you will love. Averie has endured a lot in her short life. She’s become stronger because of it, but it has been quite the rollercoaster. Ash has a secret that he keeps and eventually tells her, but acts without thinking. Together, they are beautiful and strong. Their story will stay with you for a long then after the last page.
