Getting ditched at the altar is nothing compared to being humiliated there in front of three hundred shocked guests. Apparently I’m no good at spotting the signs your man’s a cheating liar. So I set off solo on my honeymoon to Hawaii, where I realize I’ve got this life thing down just fine on my own.
Friendships and laughter? Yes.
Adventures? Absolutely.
But relationships? Hell no. Never again.
Knox
I’m a man of few words. My reputation as a moody prick is deserved, but only the handful of people who really know me see the man beneath the professional mask.
I’m a protector. A warrior. That part is true. But the world doesn’t get to see the rest of me. And women don’t seem to mind my gruff exterior—my bed’s always warm.
I’m content with life—loving it, even—or so I thought. But when I meet a beautiful pastry chef with a broken heart and a smile that softens me down to my soul, I realize I wasn’t really content at all before her.

FIRST: let me just get this out of the way ... THIS IS HOW YOU #CoverWIN and you get me to download the previous three books in the series before I've even read a single word!! holy hotballs cover!!
SECOND: Where has Brenda Rothert been all my life why have NONE of you let me know of this talent?!?!
I loved everything about this story! It was funny when it was supposed to be. It was sexy and electric all the time. It was emotional in all the right places. It had all the makings of one heck of a sweet and sexyuntil we meet again story. I was drawn to both Knox and Reese. I wanted them to succeed so badly! I was invested. I didn’t just read their story, I experienced it. GAH, I need to read more words by this author immediately!!
First of all wasn't Knox described as dark skinned?? I really can't remember but anyway
In the last book the author killed off a secondary character who was dearly loved and had a great relationship with her husband. As upset as I was I could've accepted it if Jonah had left the team and moved away not necessitating him getting his own book but a gr buddy informed me that he'll be getting his own HEA. I'd already owned the books in this series plus a few more by this author so I continued with this one but the truth is I couldn't finish it. Knox was already irritating me with his manwhoring then to see this author sticking to the same plotline through ecch book just frustrated me then to see Jonah in Hawaii ended thungs for me.
I skimmed a lot of this book because it's very similar to the previous ones in this series and called it read, this'll be my last book from this author because I can't stand the thought of Jonah moving on. Had I not known Lily I'd say he's entitled to his HEA but giving us Lily for 2 books and abruptly killing her off made no sense to me
I love this series so much. Brenda Rothert is a 'go to ' author for me and I always look forward to any new release that she brings out. Knox did not disappoint - he really is pretty much the perfect Hero and I really wanted to lose myself in the pages of a book where the Hero would not let me down.
Knox is the enforcer for the Chicago Blaze - he is the epitome of the dark, brooding alpha but I was surprised at how sweet he was under that tough exterior.
Reese is a really well written heroine - she is jilted horribly at the altar at the start of the book so I could understand her skittishness around Knox and relationships at the beginning.
I look out the passenger side window at the bright June day, all sunshine and possibility. It doesn’t feel like the kind of day your heart gets stomped on in front of two hundred and eighty-six well-dressed onlookers.
She needed time alone and so after their initial connection they are apart for fourteen months.
“I’m nowhere close to ready to date, even if it’s just a long distance flirtationship.” “Flirtationship?” He quirks a brow. “Yeah. That’s what we have happening now, isn’t it?” “Call it what you want. I just know it feels pretty damn good.”
Together these two work so well. Plus there are the fantastic secondary characters - I am a die hard Chicago Blaze fan. Every single character brings something to the table and they all interact so well. The camaraderie between the players shines through.
This can easily be read as a standalone but you are missing out big time if you don't read the other books.
I am new to the Chicago Blaze series and I have to tell you that I started with a bang because this book is so good! Hockey romance is my jam and I am so glad I read this book! Knox Devereaux is an experience hockey player but a brooding and silence one. During the off season Knox goes along with his team mates to Hawaii to blow off some steam and there (in a very funny top bikini affair) he meets Reese. She is a baker with a serious broken heart and they decided in a rebound romance. However, months later they still have this lingering feeling between them even they are apart. Knox is the ultimate romance hero and he captures our hearts along with Reese. Their story is captivating and you will love it!
Book hangover! This was everything I wanted and needed and more! Knox is the 'publicly brooding but secretly sweet' hockey stud. Reese is so sweet but guarded. She got dumped on in the worst possible way by her fiancee (& her best friend) at the altar. But she was so strong to go on her honeymoon to Kauai on her own. Good thing she did because that's where she met Knox. She needed that little escape, one week and that's it, and then she planned on getting back to her 'real life' - whatever that will be now.
I was conflicted while reading this because it was a such a fast read, it sucked me in from the beginning and it flowed so easily that I couldn't put it down. I wanted to keep going to get to the next part but I didn't want it to end!
I loved loved loved this book!! Knox and Reese are such a perfect pair!
Already head over heels in love with this series, Brenda Rothert managed to steal my breath and my heart with this book. This is such a beautiful story and certainly one of the BEST sports romance books I've ever experienced. I had no intention of reading this in one fell swoop, but once I started, it was unputdownable. My heart beats a little faster thinking about it and I'm already contemplating the re-read.
Why you ask? Knox Deveraux. This man is everything! He's the most endearing character, with soooo much heart and soul. I could run through the expansive list of his awesomeness but I think I should just take the moment to give my recommendation. Okay, that's already obvious. But onto the other reasons that I loved this story. It all starts with the runaway bride trope, as at the altar, Reese Dalton discovers that her fiancé Eric is a deplorable lizard. When she takes off for her solo honeymoon and finds herself in Knox's orbit, I couldn’t have been any happier for her, and simultaneously jealous of her.
What follows is pure magic. Separated by time and space, they find themselves earning a second chance to build something. They both hold back a bit for different and understandable reasons, but Knox is not about to let go. It gives me the chills to think about how sweet, funny, lionhearted, and respectful he is. The chemistry between these two is stunning - off the charts sexy and heartfelt. They share the same sense of humor and are both genuine and good-natured. In the face of adversity, Knox is strong but breakable and we will witness this a time or two and left me bawling my eyes out.
They are indeed among my favorite couples and I loved their journey. That said, I am ruined and sporting a few days long book hangover. I just can’t recommend this enough. It was an utterly perfect read; the challenges they face, the pacing of their relationship, the flirting, the longing, the schmexy times, the dialogue, and the flame of their slow-burn love story, with an HEA that left me dazzled!
Favorite quotes:
“Reese. I’ve never in my life pressured a woman to have sex with me.” She shakes her head and laughs. “I’m sure you don’t have to. You just take off your shirt and give them that brooding look and suddenly their panties are on the ground.” Now I’m the one laughing . “I don’t have a brooding look.” Reese lets out a loud belly laugh. “Are you kidding me? You have resting broody-man face.”
"Love is like a wheel of colors, each one representing an emotion. And Knox brings all of them out of me. I’ve been sunshine yellow with joy, the brightest shade of pink with arousal and the deepest red with anger. Right now, though, I’m not sure what color I am. I just know I hate it." ~ Reese
Text session: Me: We can LIGHTLY JOG to a new bakery I want to try. Knox: Deal. Me: Where are you? Knox: Toronto. We got our asses kicked in the game, don’t watch the highlights on SportsCenter. Me: Lol, do you think you should win every single game? Knox: Yes. Me: Glad you’ve got a healthy mindset on winning… Knox: How was the shelter today? Me: Exhausting. I didn’t even sit down when I ate dinner. It’s almost 10 pm here, what time is it there? Knox: An hour later. I’ll let you get to bed. Me: Okay. See you Sunday. Knox: Sweet dreams, sweet girl.
Knox is content living the life of a single guy. All of the men in his circle of teammate friends seem to be falling in love and pairing off, he doesn’t have the slightest interest in doing the same. He is very focused on his career and any time he finds to be with a woman is strictly for one night only.
Knox is in Hawaii with his friends and their significant others, enjoying a post season break away when he meets a damsel in distress or should I say ‘dis-dress.’ A gorgeous girl is in the water, minus her bikini top, calling for his help - well actually she needs his shirt to avoid public exposure.
Reese is a successful pastry chef and is about to take the next major leap in her life, marriage. Her wedding day did not go as planned so she heads off on her honeymoon alone. Kauai, Hawaii is the perfect place to pamper herself and lick her wounds in private. The Universe decides it is not yet done with her when it rips her bikini top away from her while swimming in the sea. The only good thing about this situation is the gorgeous man who rescues her.
Knox is completely taken aback by the beautiful Reese and manages to bump into her a few more times. He was shocked to hear her back story and wants to make the rest of her holiday memorable. On her last night in Kauai Reese throws caution to the wind and enjoys a very steamy and unforgettable night with this incredibly sexy man.
No numbers or contact details are exchanged and it will be about 14 months until their paths cross again. Knox has never forgotten the night he spent with Reese and when he has the opportunity to see her again he decides he has nothing to lose and hopefully, everything to gain. Reese is thrilled to see Knox again but hesitant to ‘reconnect’ with him, preferring friendship over a relationship - her heart could not take another battering.
Knox finds himself in quite a vulnerable situation, he is falling hard for Reese and he needs to prove to her that she can not only rely on him to be there for her but can also trust him with her heart.
This was another fun addition to the Chicago Blaze series.
I absolutely adore this story, this series and these characters! When I read each new Chicago Blaze story I think, Oh, this one is my favorite, but then along comes the next hunky hockey player in the series and I’m swooning again! I definitely have fallen for Knox and his “resting broody-man face”!!
Knox is the “enforcer” on the Chicago Blaze hockey team. As rough and gruff and they come on the outside, but when he falls for Reese, he falls hard and fast!
Reese finds out AT THE ALTAR that her fiancé has been cheating on her WITH HER BRIDESMAIDS so she runs off to escape a bit of her reality. She goes on her honeymoon trip to Hawaii alone planning to swear off men. But Reese can’t resist the immediate and blazing hot attraction she feels when she meets Knox. What promises to be a super hot vacation fling soon feels like a whole lot more.
“Love is like a wheel of colors, each one representing an emotion. And Knox brings all of them out of me. I’ve been sunshine yellow with joy, the brightest shade of pink with arousal and the deepest red with anger.”
I loved the little peeks into the lives of the other players on the team and especially the hints about the Hero for the next book in this series. -5 Stars!!-
Oh man, who doesn’t love a confirmed bachelor—seriously, I’m never getting married or having a long-term relationship, dyed in the wool bachelor—who not only finds his true love, but she is anti-relationship. And now he needs to change her mind!
I loved Knox and Reese from the start. Reese for her strength and ability to move forward. Knox because he’s such a protector—thinks of the comfort and needs of friends and family above his own. And doesn’t want to saddle anyone with the craziness of professional hockey’s long season and numerous absences.
But Knox’s heart is not on board with this plan any longer after meeting Reese. She’s the one for him—he knew it from their first meeting, but he needed to get his heart and brain on board. And he’s willing to do just about anything to be with her.
And Reese, man, she’s been through the wringer. She’s trying to find her own happiness—make her own way after being stifled for nine years. She’s so strong, yet still vulnerable. Still wanting to be loved, but without the strings. Or so she thinks.
I loved Reese and Knox together—how they perfectly balanced each other. And how they both still had lives outside their “relationship” but had each other too. That their “relationship” was easy, and sexy AF.
Knox is another terrific addition to this excellent Chicago Blaze series and I’m looking forward to Alexei’s story next! ~ Missy, 4 stars
I don’t think it is possible to love this book anymore than I do. Knox may be a rough and tough hockey enforcer but deep down he is such a tender hearted man. He is just gorgeous. Then there is Reese. She started off the story in such a shocking way. Then for her to meet and subsequently fall in love with Knox, I thought that she deserved Knox in every way. Thankfully there will be at least one more book in this series and I cannot wait to read it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
This was a super easy read. Though I didn't think it would have the emotional side it did. I totally get why Reese why anti relationship and shy. Knox came out his shell meeting her and was determined to win her over. Though I had moments I wanted her to be mote all in and all that. It was evident she cared for him but he did a lot to encourage and support her. It shows he's nothing like her ex. She did better at the end. I wasn't expecting this to hit home in the part about Knox's dad. This was less hockey centric kind of series it focuses more on the relationship. It feels real though the characters and what they went throughso well done Brenda Rothert. I enjoy this series and this one I liked most so far.
I enjoyed the storyline, it's well written, entertaining from start to end and the pacing was spot on. Knox and Reese are likable, relatable characters that I easily connected with. From their first meeting they share an instant attraction but the timing wasn't quite right for these two. Months later, after Reese has made major changes in her life they are now living in the same city, she's helping with the community and making a name for herself as a top pastry chef, they come back into each others life.
I loved how once Knox found out where Reese worked he makes it clear he wants her. He knows these feelings Reese brings out in him are special and he's willing to do anything to have her in his life. Reese is still wary and protective of her heart and doesn't want a relationship. Knox accepts this and they start off as friends, getting to know each other and just having fun. I loved watching their relationship unfold, they made me smile and swoon and Knox was such a sweetheart the way he took care of Reese's heart and feelings. These two are perfect for each other and I was thrilled they were able to move past their insecurities and fears to find eternal love.
Knox is a wonderful addition to the Chicago Blaze series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend it.
Reese is told devastating news from her future husband on there wedding day leaving her at the alter. Trying to pick up the pieces she goes on their honeymoon alone. Swimming in the ocean she sidling finds herself topless. Swing her shirt on the beach she tries to find someone to bring it to her. Never thinking it was going to be a male someone but not only that but a fine specimen of a man. Now more then embarrassed she needs to put her feeling in check and get her shirt. Knox is on vacation with his teammates and there families. Never thinking he was going to meet someone in distress that he is instantly attracted to. But Reese is not interested after having her heart broken. Will Knox be able to get Reese to trust in men again and be able to have a relationship with her or will she leave him behind. I absolutely loved this book. This has a strong realistic story with lots of chemistry
Such a beautiful love story!!!! Knox and Reese were so refreshing and non dramatic and was such a good read that you’ll finish it in one seating. Reese was cheated on and didn’t trust men but here comes along Knox. They met in Hawaii it was beautiful then they went their separate ways. Fast forward 14 months later and they accidentally run into each other. Their friendship was so beautiful even though they both had feelings for each other but Knox didn’t want to freak her out. Eventually it became more even though Reese tried to fight it because of her past. Knox wasn’t backing down but he wasn’t rushing her either. There was a sad moment with Knox that really hit home with me since I experienced the same thing last year. Other than that moment it was a beautiful story with the hero and heroine having huge hearts.
WOW! I've volunteered to review this book. Brenda Rothert is one of my favorite authors to read from. Knox is the fourth book in the Chicago Blaze series. Knox and Reese is refreshing to read. While she's in Hawaii that's where she meets Knox. Knox is the sweetest man, is a self proclaimed bachelor. They spent some time together exploring the island and each other. Then went their separate ways. By faith they see each other again. Can Knox break down the walls that Reese has around her heart? They are the perfect soulmate. You have to get this book and find out what will happen between them. This story will suck in you in just like it did to me. I couldn't stop reading until the end.I HAD to know what would happen between them. Keep up the amazing work!
I did not like Reese at all. I felt bad for her wedding but she sure was missing all sorts of clues if her fiance messed around with two of her bridesmaids.
Then meeting Knox and having good time was nice.
But when meeting by chance after a year Reese is all weird. She lines up a trip to NY without telling him but they declare love for each other. Then while she's there she finds out his dad dies and she blames him for not calling her. She lets him feel bad for him not calling AND she is still willing to consider NY.
So yuck. I don't see Knox and Reese as lasting. Book left me cold.
Let’s be honest here... I wanted to hit Reese over the head so many times!!! So many!!! Geez!!! Wake up and see what is right in front of you! Or who. I’m talking about Knox. Knox was a great character! I loved him from start to finish! We had little pieces of him in the prior stories - glad he got his own book. Together, when she wasn’t doubting herself, these two are a dynamite couple.
I highly recommend this one! Yes, it is part of a series, but each story is about a different couple and can be read on there own with no issues.
Side note - I’m so excited the next story is Alexei’s. :)
3.5 stars — *sigh* These books are super fast to gobble up, and I do enjoy that in some ways. But it does mean that, again, not a lot of time is given to certain plot points to really expand on the emotional impact. In this case it was Knox’s father, and Reese’s healing.
Knox was pretty steady. I thought he was sweet, and while it was odd that he was so anti-relationship and then was gung-ho relationship, I kind of just accepted it and moved on. I appreciated how much he cared for his friends, that he was close to his family, and that he truly admired all the ambitions of Reese.
I wish that if we were going to skip ahead 14 months, we would have gotten just a wee bit more in flashbacks or something explaining how Reese was doing, how she was healing, etc. It was kind of hand wavy. I enjoyed her in general, but I didn’t fall in love. I think it’s because I could only accept her fear of relationships so far before it was just kind of ridiculous.
The two of them together were actually both sweet and hot. I liked seeing them get to know each other in Kauai, and the sort of courting Knox did upon second meeting. And the few steamy scenes we got were…well, steamy. But I will admit that the time jump in their non-relationship relationship threw me off. I can’t believe we got cut short on those first moments of a couple. Basically, I was bummed.
The Blaze guys were pretty awesome, as always. The new owner was interesting. I feel like he was completely unrealistic in some senses, and that he was mostly used to magically solve some problems. *shrugs*
So yeah. It was okay. I enjoyed certain aspects, but it was a bit more shallow than even the previous ones. I think I’ll take a break from this series. I just find that I keep wanting more, and I have no doubt that will continue to happen.
I’m upping my game for this upcoming year. Gonna go with four stars if I really like a book. 5 stars if it’s awesome. This was really good. So four (4) stars it is. This is a series but can be read as a standalone.
These big, strong hockey players provide a great backdrop for some good stories. This one includes a love for providing services for abused and homeless women. All of this in addition to Reese and Knox’s love story.
This author has a huge backlist and I think I have most of them and really enjoyed the vast majority of them so she has become an autobuy author. In fact with this latest series, I don’t even bother to read the outline first and I preorder if it’s available, that’s how much I’m enjoying her books. And Knox was another one that just fit the bill. There is not a big and bold storyline but more on the quiet kind of side and just the type of book at just the right time.
Knox is an enforcer for the Chicago Blaze, a pro hockey team. He’s in Hawaii with a bunch of teammates staying at the summer home of one of them. He’s out running on the beach one morning when he comes across a gorgeous young woman with a dilemma. Seems somehow she managed to lose the top of her bathing suit and asked him for his help. Said water nymph is Reese. She found out – at the alter – that her scum fiancé has cheated on her with not one, but two members of her wedding party. She’s livid and hurt and betrayed but since the honeymoon in Hawaii has already been booed, decides to go by herself. And once Knox helps her out, he makes a most excellent rebound guy and they spend the rest of their vacation together. But that’s all they will be as Knox isn’t a commitment kind of guy and Reese is done with relationships after what her fiancé pulled. On top of that they live in different cities and neither want any kind of long distance relationship. So they have their memories of their incredible chemistry until……. Two years later Knox discovers that Reese is now living in Chicago much to his shock and delight. He’s never forgotten her and their time together and with some detective work tracks her down. Their chemistry is still off the charts but this time he’s determined to not lose track of her because he knows now that there is something special.
As I said this is kind of a quiet book in a way with Knox wanting something deeper now with Reese and ready and willing to fight for it and Reese resisting as she still has no trust. Ms. Rothert can write some great male characters and Knox is really a good one. I love his determination and patience and understanding. I quite like Reese to though I did have a bit of trouble understanding her stubbornness. Knox is just the bees knees and everything a gal would want in a guy. She does what I consider a kind of selfish act towards the end though I’m sure there are a number of readers who don’t agree with me.
This is the fourth book in this series and another Very Good One. Oh, and I can’t leave without mentioning the cover. Yup, the cover. I’m mentioning it. Um, yep. Well that’s what I say about the cover.
And holy Hannah is it hot. And I thought the cover for Anton was hot. A hearty wow on this one. Oh but for a hockey stick
With Knox, Ms Rothert returns us to the world of the Chicago Blaze in a heavily connected stand alone story.
Knox is a character that honestly don’t recall seeing too much in the previous books, but I loved getting to know him here. Over the course of the book we find out that Know is really like a truffle - hard deliciousness on the outside with a sweet, soft center.
His love interest, Reese, is a fun character to get to know. I appreciated the way she responded to adversity and channeled that into something bigger and better for herself.
Together, this couple was awesome. They were the perfect combination of instant chemistry combined with a slow burn/friendship. Knox is a well written and fast paced book. There were some things I would have liked to have more time with, but overall things were well balanced. The conflicts in the story were organic to who the couple is and flowed well with the rest of the story.
My one caution would be for readers new to the series. The secondary cast (primarily the other players) is heavy with people who have been in previous books in either a primary or secondary role. Having read some of the previous books would definitely help with understanding the relationships discussed. Having said that, don’t let it stop you from reading Knox if this is the best place to start.
Reese had her future mapped out personally and professionally until she finds out her fiancé isn’t the man she thought he was. Needing to get away from the public humiliation she decides to enjoy the honeymoon without the marriage.
Knox is a professional hockey player who just happened to be in Hawaii on vacation when he becomes Reese’s white knight and rescues her from an embarrassing situation. They spend time together and the chemistry between them ignites with both of them knowing that it would never be more than a vacation fling as they both lead very different lives.
A year later fate brings them together once again and Knox is not about to lose Reese for a second time and now he just needs to convince her that together is where they are meant to be. Hot chemistry, witty banter and all the feels as not only do we get to know Knox and Reese but we also get to catch up with all the other characters we know and love.
Reese was given a blow at the start of the book, one that really made her gun shy of men. Yet as she met Knox there was something there for the two of them in Hawaii, that lead to a short connection. I loved that Knox was blindsided by Reese and that she was the one that got away, the one that he kept thinking about. So much so that when he realized Reese was in his city again he did what he could to talk to her again.
From here things are fairly predictable, yet I didn't care, I wanted to see Reese and Knox work their way back to each other on their terms. Was it easy for them...no, but both realized what they had was special, which lead to their HEA, one they both deserved.
I am loving the men of the Chicago Blaze series so much! Knox by Brenda Rothert was an emotional and sweet read. Knox may have a tough exterior, but he was all heart. He was caring and protective. Reese was just humiliated in the worse way possible on the day that should have been her wedding. When she decides to go on what would have been her honeymoon she never expects a man like Knox.
But after the vacation, they go their separate ways. When they reconnect again, Knox knows he wants her, but can he convince her they belong together? I absolutely loved Knox. He was just what Reese needed. Reese was more vulnerable and afraid to let someone in. I loved watching them spend time together and connect. Knox was determined to win her over but understood what she needed as well.
