About the author

Louis Massignon was a French scholar of Islam and its history. Although a Catholic himself, he tried to understand Islam from within and thus had a great influence on the way Islam was seen in the West; among other things, he paved the way for a greater openness inside the Catholic Church towards Islam as it was documented in the pastoral Vatican II declaration Nostra Aetate.

بخش هایی از این کتاب لوئی ماسینیون بصورت فشرده به فارسی منتشر شده که روان فرهادی آن را ترجمه کرده و کتابخانه ی منوچهری آن را چاپ و منتشر کرده است. من چاپ سوم آن را دیده ام که نه تاریخ چاپ دارد و نه معلوم است چاپ اول و دوم آن چه زمانی و توسط چه انتشاراتی چاپ شده است. قصه ای کم و بیش شبیه "هارون و دریای قصه" از سلمان رشدی. بنظر می رسد بخش دوم یا سومی هم داشته باشد که احتمالن بعدها منتشر می شود.
