This little book, bought in a gift shop at the Norwegian Resistance Museum in Oslo, reviews the activities and role of the Resistance during the Nazi occupation. I was looking for a deeper understanding of the organization’s activities during that time put in context with dates and world events. In this, I wasn’t disappointed. It wasn’t an easy read, perhaps the translation to English lost it some of its clarity. I often wondered what intern or college student was tasked with editing this. It was too conversational at times, wordy where it might have been concise. Distracting. But in the end I appreciated better the state of the country during this time and the affect on the Norwegian people, resistance members and even collaborators. It hinted at the causes of German failings and successes in the occupation. It was hard not to wonder the similarities of the Russian invasion of Ukraine happening now. Now I will research how Europe recovered after the war, maintaining democracy when so little government remained. History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes- Mark Twain
