This was an interesting urban fantasy type. Sometimes I didn’t quite get everything but I liked the uniqueness of it. Also, there was cuteness with the romantic interest and the dialogue was great!

This was a breath of fresh air in YA Fantasy. It's a unique concept in which we follow our protagonist, Briony, and her journey to regain her memories and unveil the secrets about her mother, as she returns to the Smoky Mountains to help her grandmother. There, she finds a mysterious boy, and with him and her best friend, her adventure begins.
Female friendship here is very well represented and the romance was really sweet. The pacing was okay.

This was an exciting and action-packed urban fantasy set in a small town where auras exist and the balance of the world depends on spirits.
Briony has no memory before she was ten. Her mother has disappeared and when her grandmother falls ill, she is sent with her best friend to Firefly Valley. There she meets Alder, who has a deep connection to the vall

I love books which can take me out of my physical being into the unknown.

The author Lindsey Duga with the power of her imagination not only showed me the earthly realm but also transported me deeper into the astral plane. She just needed the spark of her belief to show me the beauty of the world where beings existed as energies, the mana. Where the ethereal world connected earth to the astral plane. Close your eyes and imagine pure energy, and you would get the spirit if this book. ...more

This is a fun and imaginative story that I was very impressed with. I felt that the premise for the story was very unique and I think that that the author did a fantastic job of bringing it to life.

Lindsey Duga's writing is extremely breathtaking. The words flow beautifully and the pacing of the story is perfect. This is a young adult book but I felt that the stor

I think it’s hard with YA fantasy to get the balance right sometimes as obviously there’s a huge gap in experience between a twelve year old and a seventeen year old but this author has done a credible job of bridging that divide. Her characters feel real and have idiosyncrasies particularly best friend Izzie but it’s Briony whose bravery and willingness to embrace any challenge thrown her way who quite rightly pulls the narrative along. I was a tad underwhelmed by her amne

Some people might call this book urban fantasy, some people might call this book magical realism, some people might call it both or neither. Regardless of what genre you would categorize it as, it’s an enchanting read.

Just like with Duga’s previous novel, Kiss of the Royal, when you start the book, you think you have an idea of where the story is going. Then Duga rips the rug out from under you and you end up going “whoa I did not see that coming”.

Glow of the Fireflies is a young adult standalone magic fantasy by Lindsey Duga. Lindsey Duga wrote one of my favorite books of last year- Kiss of the Royal, so to say I was excited about her next book was an understatement. And I am happy to report that I really loved Glow of the Fireflies. I still think Kiss of the Royal is my favorite book of hers, but her writing is so magical that it is hard not to completely fall in love with

Lindsey Duga is new to me, and I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Briony, the heroine, through various circumstances, ends up in Firefly Valley in the Smoky Mountains for the summer. She lost everything here years ago- her mother disappeared, her memories, her childhood, a fire-just devastating stuff.

Glow of the Fireflies by Lindsey Duga is an imaginative and spellbinding tale that captivated me until the very last page. It’s fascinating, atmospheric, thrilling and absolutely wonderful.

I've read one other book by Duga, The Kiss of the Royal, and absolutely loved that so I was really looking forward to reading this. While I didn't completely fall head over heels in love with this book, I think Duga has created a magical and unique story that is charming, sur

I had the best time reading this book.
Briony and Izzie come across as mostly realistic teenagers, although they're slightly too good to be true. In a wonderful, good, wholesome way that is. It was like I fell in love with Firefly Valley again, feeling the nostalgia, together with Briony. The book has action and a fast-paced plot, but room for this nostalgic feeling as well.

I received a free copy through Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I don’t know how to say this, I was speechless after reading this book. It was a very phenomenal and brilliant story. This is like the best YA-Fantasy book I ever read so far, the concept of the magic was brilliant, and the characters are very likable which makes this story more interesting. After I finished reading it, I needed to take a break for awhile because I really need all the time I can have to process the whole story. This isn’t the type of story that you can easily move on from, you c ...more

Duga's Glow of the Fireflies is a magical tale of nature's wonder, and the true connectedness underlying all things. When Briony's Gran breaks her leg, Briony ends up returning to her childhood home in the quaint Firefly Valley to care for her. It is a place Briony doesn't remember, thanks to retro-grade amnesia after an accident that also leaves her phobic of fire. Her friend Izzie goes along to help with moral support. However, Briony isn't prepared for the emotions the valley brings. And when ...more

My Thoughts:

Glow of the Fireflies was a unique, and adventurous fantasy. It was simplistic and imaginative. This story is perfect for middle schoolers. I loved the vivid imagery that Lindsey Duga crafted with the setting of Firefly Valley. I could clearly see the Smoky Mountains, the wisps, the animal spirits, and all of nature.

Briony has both literal and metaphorical scars from a fire that occurred in her old home in the Smoky Mountains. She suffered amnesia after the in

Briony was a very young girl when, all at once, she lost her mother, memories and her childhood home. Now, six years later, Briony and her best friend Izzie returns to the scene of the past. (Starts singing the soundtrack of Anastasia)

‘Glow of the Fireflies’ Reminds me of the classic books I used to read as a child that were filled with worlds of magic, whimsical creatures, and enchanted forests.

With the stresses of adult life, it's been nice to slip away into this well written and addictive read.

Throughout the book, Lindsey Duga uses deliciously detailed description and exquisite word building to make you feel like you're part of every scene.

Now, I'm not an avid Fantasy reader, so I don't have a lot to compare

Glow of the Fireflies is a fast-paced and character driven story. Briony wants to uncover the childhood she can no longer remember and also figure out why her mother left her and her father.

“Falling through the mist, I expected to feel wet, or at the very least, damp, but I stayed dry. I also expected to die.”

Briony is a strong and determined main character, especially after she goes back home to take care of her estranged grandmother and stumbles upon an impossible magic

I was excited to read Glow of the Fireflies because it sounded so different from what I am used to reading. I adore fantasy, yes, but this book has more of a magical realism feeling than what we traditionally think of as fantasy, similar Sarah Addison Allen’s books, for example.
