I recently realized that I haven't read a western in years. I looked through some forums on goodreads and figured I would give a few a try since I read almost every genre.

I went to the local used book store and picked up 1 each Max Brand, Louis Lamour and Zane Grey as those were the authors I could remember in the genre. I thought I would give each a try.

The first I chose randomly was the Max Brand novel, Rider of the High Hill. While I wasn't surprised by anything in the book, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

The protagonist, Reata, is a very likeable hero who is easy to pull for. In the typical "Robin Hood" way he has some bad mixed with his good and is quite the lady's man to boot. The action was fun and fast paced and Louis Lamour and Zane Grey will have a tough act to follow.
