The Life of the Servant is one of the world's greatest religious biographies. It is the work of a saint - one of that remarkable trio of 14th century German mystics, of whom the others were Eckhardt and Tauler - who was also a poet. The book was never intended for publication, and owes its preservation to an accident. What Suso confided to his 'spiritual daughter' was meant for her ears alone. Henry Suso (Also called Amandus, a name adopted in his writings, and Heinrich Seuse in German) was a German mystic, declared Blessed in 1831 by Gregory XVI, who assigned his feast in the Dominican Order to March 2. The Dominicans now celebrate his feast on January 23, the "open" day nearest the day of his death.

gory, spiritually engaging, interesting historically. did you know old christian dudes used to marry christ? eat that, homophobes.

kind of dense and hard to get through, but definitely worth reading. beware of serious gore though. these guys were hardcore af. #rolemodels
