The computer really has changed our lives. It seems like everyone is hooked up to the Internet. Today, most businesses have websites and a growing number of people are joining social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.

Getting your own website, setting up a blog, or sharing your pictures on Snapfish might sound rather overwhelming if you aren’t very computer savvy. Fortunately, Create Your Own Website can take you through the options, help you select something that suits your needs, and then help you build a website, register with Ebay, or get a Facebook account.

Of course, there are plenty of beginner create a website books on the market. However, most assume that you’ll want to build a website from scratch using html. Not everyone wants or needs to do so. Create Your Own Website provides options, and a CD with the simple to use SeaMonkey’s web building software.

this is a straight-forward and accessible guide to creating a website, albeit a very basic one. i do like that they highlighted how to use the free seamonkey as opposed to the more expensive design software. but this will be most helpful to the web novice; i kind of rofl-ed a little over the extensive myspace and facebook sections.

The first couple chapters made it seem like this book was going to be helpful - but ultimately it wasn't. They focus about half the book on navigating specific software that I don't plan on using, and then the latter half is about using Facebook and YouTube. I think I know how to use those. I was hoping to learn something new.

It uses Mozilla Composer which has been discontinued, the website templates are clunky looking and it dates from 2005 which is a world away from today's tools and look. The basics aren't different but it might frustrate some because things will probably not work like they should.

It was useful in 2005

I actually liked this because it was very short... easy to read... and just gave you a basic understanding if you are a beginner. However, if you are more advanced, you may wish to look at another book. This book had a couple of fun projects with it.

This book is limited to 5 projects which kind of narrows its use. But it's good if your need falls within those 5 projects.
