This is a masterfully written book, full of intrigue and suspense. The author reveals that, in the elite world occupied by people like an aristocratic descendant, a newly minted billionaire, an art gallery owner and a high-end jewelry designer, there is “a web of treachery, deceit and murder” (description in the back cover) behind the façade of high society glitter. Oh yes, there is murder and attempted murder, so in a sense, this is a “who-has-done-it” mystery, with police detectives working in ...more

This was a highly entertaining story, where events in the present has ties to the past. I really enjoyed how this book had a great deal of suspense with interesting tidbits of past events written throughout. I loved how the story starts in the Forbidden City during the Qing Dynasty and spans time and various locations across the globe, to present day New York. I was captivated by the way Gerel Garnier's family history and William Blackwell's family legacy intertwine, which results in

This book by Cumiskey delves into the genre of suspense, with a time thread weaving through centuries and across the three continents. Using a backdrop of a family heirloom, the Empress Seal, Cumiskey takes readers through dueling forces of love and hatred, faith and treachery, loyalty and deceit on a non-stop emotional journey from beginning to end. The surprise ending to the fate of the Empress Seal deftly completes the protagonist, Gerel's journey of truth seeking and self-discovery.

Love and diamonds survive for centuries – facing villains, imitators, and murder along the way. The Face of the Seal’s plotline traces clues of a wealthy hipster art dealer’s homicide in Manhattan to the ancient jewelry designs of a Chinese Emperor. Each character is vividly drawn, I had strong reactions to their fates. A concubine of the ruler, pure of heart, stole my heart. Skillfully written, I enjoyed the author’s play in timing this story. My inner detective kept thinking and feeling my way ...more

Intrigue and suspense interwoven with heart-wrenching memories and history
A truly engaging and unique read as I finished the book in two days. A world record for me.
When Britain’s notorious playboy and art patron Blackwell IV was murdered in his New York City penthouse, police was baffled by the one hundred cross-like cuts on his body. Was it a religious cult killing or a ritual killing by an ancient drug triad because Blackwell was known to have engaged in deviant sexual practices and consumed

This book moves between New York, Paris and China and timelines are intermixed.

Gerel Garnier of Cartier Paris receives a commission to design, or rather replicate, the 19th Century Qing Dynasty Empress Seal. It is an honored and great opportunity to increase her standing among jewelry designers.

The owner of the Seal is a very wealthy Englishman whose great-grandfather brought the Seal back from one of his journeys to China. He was a famous historian, writer and author. When the Englishm
