No matter how many times it's been done, forbidden romance never gets old. The good ol saying of wanting something you can’t have is a permanent fixture in the storyline and you know that regardless of the outcome, you’re going to be taken on a hot passionate tempting journey that give you one question: Is it worth it?

It’s been ten years since Sebastian suffered a tragic loss and from that moment, he made a vow to himself. Never fall in love again. Pretty simple right? Being a newly appointed D

He's the newly appointed dean.
I'm the forbidden fruit dangling right before his eyes.
It was a mistake for me to hold onto my v-card as long as I did for him.
But like always Sebastian Miller was hard to forget, and even harder to not love.

The Vow by J. L. Beck and C. Hallman

The Vow is the fourth book in the North Wood University series by the authors J.L. Beck and C. Hallman.
It's written in dual POV and can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend that you read the first three books first.
The Bet, The Dare, The Secret and after that to start with The Vow. The books are very well written, and their stories are very beautiful. Each one of them having a different couple.
The Vow tells the story of Sebastian and Lil

With each new book in this series, I find myself loving J.L. Beck &C.Hallman's writing more and more. The Vow was a great read. I finished reading it within one day, because I had such a hard time putting it down. It demonstrated the reality behind grief, survivor's guilt, and just how hard it can be for someone to feel okay with finding love, after their significant other passes away.
It also showed that it is OK to move forward in life. That just because you love someone new does not mean t

As a big fan of the forbidden romance trope I was very excited to read this book. As much as I enjoyed reading it, I am left with some complicated feelings about it. To start I really liked Sebastian and Lily and all the forbidden elements of their romnce. I thought that their chemistry sizzled and I found their intamate scenes scorching. The storyline was well written and offered lots of intense emotions, drama, tension, poignancy and an air of angst to it. That being said, there were two thing ...more

I've really been enjoying the "North Woods" series, but I'm sorry to say this particularly volume didn't work for me, for reasons I'll put below under a spoiler alert.

1. Verisimilitude issues. Sebastian is way to young to been a dean of a college. I'm academic-adjacent, and this was just too much to get over. Deans, particularly on the administrative level are the 'gray eminences' of the college. Sebastian would be around 28-29 years old, and likely only be 3-4 years out of college with

One tragedy, two lives...two broken, lost and lonely people meet again a decade later. Can Sebastian and Lily finally find the peace and solace they both deserve in each other? Or will their forbidden attraction break them further? This book has not one but two of my favorite tropes: Broken heroes AND forbidden love. He's the newly appointed Dean of the college and she is the 10-yrs younger sister of his deceased ex-girlfriend. Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed reading my first JL Beck and Cassandra Hal ...more

I was a little disappointed in Sebastian's behavior during the beginning. He really was having a hard time proving himself as a good book boyfriend. His grief was palpable turned him into a real jerk. But as the wall he built around his heart began to fall he came back with a vengeance. Lily is immature and naive when it comes to romance. Lily is ten years younger than Sebastian he is the Dean of her college and it seems that Lily's presence is a hard factor since she looks like her deceased sis ...more

*Spoiler Alert*
If you've read any of the books in this series especially The Vow then you'll have met Sebastian before because hes Remington's brother. In this book Sebastian has just been promoted to Dean of North Woods University. His dream job but it comes with its own complications. Namely from the new student Lily. Who is the little sister of his late girlfriend. So not only is her presence a reminder of what hes lost but shes the spitting image of her so its like her still being there. Thi

There's nothing better than a little bit of forbidden with a dash of taboo. I enjoyed this story it is one of my favourite genres to read. Often these stories are light on actual content and it's all sex sex sex. This one has angst in spades. We have Sebastian and Ava's past, them trying to resist the attraction and Ava struggling to adjust to her new life. The story flowed really well and kept my engaged in the story.

Not my favorite but I enjoyed reading it.. The whole love and lost thing really messes with my emotions. I liked the book and loved Sebastian from the beginning and the book was well written but I just felt like I was missing something while reading it. I'm sure it's just me. But this was a good book to read and I would recommend it along with the others in this series..

This was hands down my favorite of the series!!! Sebastian and Lily are dealing with a tremendous amount of grief that neither can really overcome but cause of that they share a common bond. This is definitely one I would recommend totally!!

Solid 5 stars!

I have been hoping and praying since I read Remy and Jules book that Sebastian would get his own story. There was something about him that I adored just from the small parts he had. From the beginning I felt more connected to this story than any others in the series.

In my opinion the angst in the book is better than any other story the authors have written! The love/hate relationship is fantastic and brings all the feels.

I knew from the beginning of the story that I wou

The Vow is a fabulously transformative journey of learning that love can heal as well as hurt. There is nothing more powerful or beautiful as loving another person and having them love you in return. However, nothing hurts worse than to have love forcibly removed from your life after having it invade every part of your being. When life deals you such a low blow, there are no good ways to deal with it. You have to find a way to continue breathing, continue moving, and continue surviving.

Still tied up in the past

I was really looking forward to this because the last book in the series was so great, but... I couldn’t help but be disappointed. All of the books in the series have been intense and emotional, taking big chances with their characters’ actions. This one falls short for me because I never felt like these two learned who they are as people - they knew each other in the past (when she was literally a child), and then suddenly they’re sleeping together in the present. The Vow is another thrilling story in the North Woods University Series. So excited that Sebastian got to have his own story. Sebastian is the new Dean at the college and has been struggling for years with the loss of his girlfriend Amy, as he has vowed to never love again, until Lily enters his life . Lily who has been tormented with the loss of her family, lives with guilt and remorse of feeling unwanted and unloved. When these two are reunited after 10 years, Seb is floored when he sees Lily ...more

The Vow

A spectacular continuation of the North Woods University series by J.L. Beck and Cassandra Hallman.

Sebastian and Lily's story comes from one of tragedy that began ten years prior when Lily's sister Amy and her parents were killed in a car accident. Amy was Sebastian girlfriend and his whole world so when she died he closed down and vowed to never love another. He tried to move on with life even landed his dream job as the dean of North Woods University but he wasn't really living just e

This book was amazing as it took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions right from the start. Sebastian has just been appointed the Dean of Northwood University and is so happy until a ghost from his past walks into his office door but it cannot be Amy she is dead and then it dawns on him that it’s Lily her younger sister all grown up. When Lily speaks to him and congratulates him on getting the job as the new Dean he is shocked and is having a hard time trying to say something back to her but ...more

My Review:
This is a cute romantic story that takes on a different angle from the other books in the North Woods University series. We see Sebastian pop up in a few of the other books, and we know something bad happened to his relationship in the past. I’m glad he finally gets his own book, because I fell in love with Remington from The Bet. Again, you don’t have to read the books but other characters from the previous book do pop up from time to time. (Just in case you get curious who they are)

This is a fantastic read.
Sebastian is the newly appointed Dean of Norwood Academy. He had worked hard to get there and now felt content with his life. But he get a shock and thinks he has seen a ghost when Lily walks into his office. At first he doesn't recognise her but then everything falls into place. It was Lily, Amy's sister. Amy had been the love of his life but she died 10 years ago. And Lily was nearly a double of her. Se

Sebastian has been in all of the North Woods books, but we truly see him in this book. He is still processing the death of his past girlfriend and her parents when he was young. He vowed to never love again and keeps to his vow to himself for 10 years. Until one day in walks the person he never thought he would see again...Lily! But it is not the same Lily he remembers, she has grown up and there is a pull and chemistry that pulls him to her in every sense of the word. But can he have Lily? He i ...more

An amazing, emotional read!

Lookie, lookie... yet another 5 STAR read from JL Beck and Cassandra Hallman with The Vow!

I’ll start right off the bat by saying that while reading The Bet and falling in love with Jules and Remington, I fell super hard for Sebastian, Rem’s older brother—and I couldn’t wait until I learned more about him. So, to say I’ve been waiting for Seb is a bit of an understatement, haha.

Seb’s story though... it’s heartbreaking. After losing Amy, the woman he loved, he closed

I loved Lily and Sebastian together, these two are so smoking hot you will need a fan and a change of clothes. Lily is holding onto grief like a security blanket, she resembles her sister Amy who perished along with her parents in a car accident one night leaving her on her own and wondering why was she spared? It should’ve been her not Amy. Growing up with her grandparents and feeling alone and not loved she figured it’s time to go back where she belongs and start a new. When she walks into the ...more

Forbidden, sexy, hot with a twist you won't see coming

I was so impatient to put my hands on Sebastian's story after reading previous books in the North Woods University series. If I have to be honest his story and his character took me completely by surprise. I didn't expect him to be such an possessive alpha with a dirty mouth that only made my heart rate to pick up in certain moments. He wasn't portrayed as such an intense character in the previous stories where he made his appearance.

Welcome Back to North Woods University, where rules are just guidelines for what you should not do!

Sebastin Miller is the newly appointed Dean of North Woods University. His career was fast tracked due to some issues with the dean before him. Sebastin is hiding some deep hurt behind his amazingly hot body. He is career driven and refuses to love after losing Amy, the love of his life.

Lily Kline is not the tiny girl in pigtails that Sebastin remembers from all those years ago. When Lily walks in

Great story!!

Love this story. It wasn’t the usual trope of professor/student (nothing against tropes, they’re popular for a reason!) Lily ends up at the school where Sebastian is the dean, but they have a history. He used to date her sister, who died in a car accident with her parents. Lily survived. Both are broken and hurting from the loss.

They’re both drawn to the other, not just out of shared grief and understanding, a need to heal one another but out of a desire to feel alive again. It’s on
