Raphael Aloysius Lafferty, published under the name R.A. Lafferty, was an American science fiction and fantasy writer known for his original use of language, metaphor, and narrative structure, as well as for his etymological wit. He also wrote a set of four autobiographical novels, a history book, and a number of novels that could be loosely called historical fiction.

Ho trovato questo libro su una bancarella dell'usato convinto fosse una raccolta di racconti di fantascienza, ma "fantascienza" è un termine riduttivo, se non proprio impreciso, per definire questi dieci racconti. In un paio, forse, troviamo qualche elemento riconducibile alla fantascienza, ma per la gran parte sono racconti che spaziano tra il bizzarro e il surreale: una volta superato lo straniamento (più volte mi è scappato un "ma che diamine significa?") i racconti sono quasi tutti godibili, e alcuni sono vere perle: I Prodigi di McGruder, Sei Miliardi di Imbecilli e Troppo Tardi, in particolare

Okay, i haven't actually read thsi book - but it includes the short story, "Eurema's Dam" which deserves 5 stars all by itself. And knowing Lafferty there's plenty worth reading in here. (just have to get a copy)
