My daughter enjoys successfully reading these books. For my daughter, the wording "I like mess." did not make sense. All throughout the book she kept saying, "That's not right! It should be 'I like a mess.' or 'I like to make a mess.' or 'I like messes!' " The other Real Kids Readers books she, and I, have enjoyed.

My First Grader was able to read this book to me! When we came across a tough word, we sounded it out together, i.e. ""ay" makes the long a sound, now let's sound out the word". It was rewarding for us. It was also great to compare her guess to what happened at the end of the story. My FG liked it.

Includes some "tricky" words, such as my and sort, but very simple sentences for an advancing reader.
