I’m both honoured and saddened to be the first to read and review this amazing book. This is hardly surprising as it was published in 1965 and will be long out of print.
It’s simply the story of two people who hired two canal boats in 1948 in order to make a living through haulage on the waterways. It is also a valuable account of the now extinct travelling families who were born, lived and died on the ‘cut’. Fascinating social history, inhabitants of Rotherfield the book will be back in the book swop telephone box shortly.

One of the better ones in the series. A good story of life on the waterways in the 50s
