Some Like it Plaid was a highly entertaining time-travel romance. The majority of the story was spent in the past and I was impressed with the author's story-telling when it came to the historical time period that the hero hailed from - 156 AD. Thankfully this story was lighter with some added humor, because the time period had the potential to be dark and scary with its warrior clans, Roman soldiers, druids, and slave raids. Let's not even touch the fact that there wasn't plumbing or

I had hoped this would be a good start to my long holiday weekend reading. A cute cover, a genre I like if done well (time travel), and an interesting time period. The first 30% was okay, albeit with a slow start, but it went downhill from there. The romance was lackluster, with almost no chemistry between H/h. I didn't like the way the heroine was made to feel she would have to be the one to make all concessions in their relationship to make it work. A disappointing read.

From the cover to the intriguing synopsis, Some Like it Plaid had me hooked from the very beginning and it didn’t disappoint at all. It’s my first time reading anything from Angela Quarles and it won’t be the last. She manages to transport the reader to a whole new time and it worked.

In the story we get to meet Ashley Miller, she has recently divorced and has struggled ever since to pay the debt that her ex-husband left her with. Her life

This was a fun, lighthearted little novel!

In Angela Quarles' Some Like It Plaid, a highlander needs a wife. The problem? There are no wives to be found in his time. The solution? Travel to modern day San Francisco where he puts an ad on the list of Craig. Lots of humorous situations followed, and I gotta say, I was charmed to my toes.

Connall was so very eager in his pursuit of a wife, and the magic elements as well as the modern day and historical time periods just worked for me. How

I’ll be upfront and say this book was pretty far out of my wheelhouse as it included time travel and was a historical romance with a twist and while I found it entertaining at times, for the most part I had a hard time with the concept as I kept thinking they are changing history (sorry but my love of Star Trek made me think how bad this could be). That all being said, Some Like It Plaid was amusing and clever, but at times a bit heavy and sad and while billed a romance, that part of the story ...more

I liked the premise to this book (I just love time travel romance) and I was sure I'd enjoy it greatly (like I did other time travel books by Ms. Quarles) but sadly there was this tiny, tiny thing that got in the way of me loving the book. And that thing was the hero's age. He was 21. I just couldn't get pass that. I don't like it when the main characters are barely out of their teens. It's my personal preference and if I knew beforehand the hero was so young I wouldn't have requested this book. ...more

Normally I'm a little iffy on historical and time travel books. Angela Quarles changed my mind. I was quickly swept into another world with Ashley. I fell in love with Connall and his tribe. Ms. Quarles wove a beautiful story, her words painted beautiful pictures in my mind and I honestly did not want the book to end.

Ashley has had a shit life. Let's be honest, she has, but a chance meeting from a Craigslist ad answers all her problems. She thinks. She's then thrust into a world she knows

Some Like it Plaid by Angela Quarles is a fun time travel romance novel. Ashley is such a realistic woman from our modern times. She just went through a divorce, she doesn't seem to get along with her family now that her ex turned them against her...and she is paying her ex husband's bad debts. Tired of working two jobs and living in a pod in urban America,. Ashley applies to a job offer on Craig's List.

What she thinks is a job offer is actually a marriage offer to a Scottish man from the past

Ashley Miller is tired of dodging people her ex-husband owes money to. She would love to just get away from it all. When she finds an ad on Craigslist for a job in Scotland, she jumps at the opportunity. Ashley has no idea what to expect when she shows up for the interview, but the sexy Highlander doing the hiring is an added bonus. Apparently, she makes a good impression, because next thing she knows she's packing for Scotland. Imagine her shock, when Ashley discovers she's traveled back in ...more

An exciting whirlwind of a read. Ashley is on the run from shady creditirs. It seemed her jerk if an ex husband had used all their money in bad transactions. Instead of going after him, it seems she's the fall "guy". Even her family didn't believe her when she said how controlling he we, and how he illegally used all their funds. If her own family didn't believe her, why would anyone else? It was these things that led her to answering the odd Craigslist ad. The last thing she expected was this ...more

What would you do if you are the baby of the family (treated as such), divorced from a swindler , who you are now working 2 jobs to pay off his bookies!! Then comes this offer from a wild, hunky, swoonable man from Scotland and all he wants is you to wash , clean, and expand his herd!!! Well hell ya lets go!!!
Little did Ashley know that was not all she was going to do or when she was going to do it in. Hold hands with this with man and she ends up centuries back in time!! She makes the most out

Absolutely loved Some Like it Paid by Angela Quarles! I am a big fan of time travel books and really enjoy reading about people out of their element. I really enjoyed the Craigslist ad and all of the misinterpretations and innuendos. I always find it amusing when modern phrases are confusing and interpreted literally. I also love the comic element and use of Sci-Fi/pop culture references and phrases. I thought it was great how the magic of the druid was explained and his status in his time was ...more

I’ve read some time travel romances before, but never one that drew me in like Some Like it Plaid! I loved Connall! He seemed like he would be a big, tough warrior (& he is) but I loved that he is a big marshmallow inside. Ashley was so freaking awesome! I loved that she was so excited to help Connall’s people and especially help the women have their voices heard in the tribe!
The whole book just moved so smoothly! There was the perfect touch of drama but the focus was Ashley & Connall

Quarles dares to be different and I'm lovin' it. From modern firecracker to 2nd century outcast. Move over Outlander, make room for Some Like It Plaid. Ashley and Connell may be from two different worlds, but they do share a common goal. Both are trying to work their way through heartache. With a connection that seems to transcend time, adventure that kept me mystified and heart that touches the soul, Quarles turns an eccentric romance into an unforgettable love match.

Yea...Connall doesn't really ask he just demands, "a shadow blended with hers, and Connall reached out a hand. “You will accompany us.” I found this to be an entertaining read, Connall was just set in his ways and his ways weren't to his woman's liking so she decided to do something about driving her man bonkers.

Some Like it Plaid by Angela Quarles is a unique love story between Ashley Miller, a present day women and a second century Scotland Highlander, Connall, a tribe leader. Angela answers a Craig's list ad, thinking she is going to Scotland, for a job. She just didn't realize she was going back in time. I found this book to be interesting and fun, and enjoyed the history as well. If your looking for something different in your romance reading, I highly recommend this one.

This is my first book by Angela Quarles and very much not my last, I love discover new to me authors and even more some one who writes with a splash of humor and lot of great romance. This was such a fun read for me and one I needed, since I've been sucked into a lot more serious contemporary drama, I needed some fun fantasy and great writing.

Some Like It Plaid follows Ashley Miller who responds to a craigslist ad that seriously take a strange turn. One minutes she thinks shes going on a new

I really enjoyed this novel by Angela Quarles. She is a new author for me, but I think I will be reading more of her books. I liked the characters that she developed and the magic aspects of the story had their own unique spin.
Connall, son of Eacharn, is a member and heir to the chiefdom of the Horse People. His tribe lives during the Iron Age in Scotland. Connall’s tribe was recently raided and all of the young women were taken along with the many children so they need some new women to wed.

He makes friends with a homeless man that helps direct him to finding that needed wife. He places an ad on Craigslist and has a whole slew of women show up. But when he mets Ashley, he knows she is the one.

I really, really liked this book!
Time Travel Romance has long been a favorite of mine and this one just nailed it!

First of all, this was not the typical send the h back to the 1800s where we already know how everyone lived, what the political climate was like, how society worked, etc. No, this wonderful author sent us all the way back to 150 AD!! To the Highlands of Scotland long before there even WAS a country of Scotland!!

Secondly, the h actually struggled to adapt to the climate and

Escape with Ashley to the misty hills of Argyll and a mountain of a man

This is a well-written romance with heat, action, romance and a bit of a lesson about early Scotland. Set in present day San Francisco and second century Scotland, author Angela Quarles did a great job bringing the past to life.

Beleaguered modern woman Ashley is ripe for escape from her hand to mouth life in San Francisco. Tempted by an ad offering a position in Scotland, she goes for it, expecting a work holiday with

Some Like it Plaid by Angela Quarles is what I hope it the first book in a series with the men of Connell's village. Ms. Quarles is a new author to me so I'm definitely going to check out her other books.

Angela Quarles is a new to me author and I'm loving every thing she has to offer her readers with this novel. I'm a big fan of Outlander, so the time travel aspect of this novel intrigued me. What I got from it, was a complete addictive surprise!

I loved Connall's character! He was definitely a hot Scot from a century long ago! I could picture him vividly and loved everything I saw. Seeing him travel to the future to seek a wife, was an exciting time. Watching Ashley as she went back in time with

A good time travel tale is worth the time it takes to read it. I have read several of Angels Quarles time travel books and have greatly enjoyed them. Some Like it Plaid is not your run of the mill time travel offering. Druid magic is used to explain the transition between centuries. Unlike most of similar stories, Druid magic converts their stuff into the stuff of the current century, very ingenious. No having to hide or explain a modern piece in ancient times. The story itself is full of great ...more

Time travel, clash of customs and the status of women bring the struggling romance between Ashley and Connell to life in Some Like it Plaid by Angela Quarles. This is the first book I have read by this author who beings a new twist to how men meet women in her version of finding wives in 2nd century Scotland. How Ashley winds up in Scotland is attention grabbing. The story as entertaining as the strong clash. It is the battle between the sexes from the moment Ashley arrives unknowing to the 2nd ...more
Well. The general idea of the story is actually rather appealing. I‘m just not down with the delivery. It might be due to my being new to the author’s writings that I found it difficult to enjoy the tale. But SOME LIKE IT PLAID felt lacking in depth to me. I know this is supposed to be a sort of mix of rom com with historical romance and I shouldn’t think too much about it. But none of the characters drew me as a reader; in fact I found both MCs annoying. As for the chemistry between the pair - ...more

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

A bit different take on the time travel romance, when Connall is sent to the future to find a bride when the women of his clan are kidnapped. It was great that the clan wealth in the past translated forward (I am guessing since a druid sent him and could add on the little things!) so that Connall was not penniless.

When Ashley went back to the past, she was able to transfer her use of Google into visions or sight so that she was able to navigate this
