From the Navajo Community College Press. Collection of material contained in this book was made possible by a grant from the Weatherhead Foundation of New York City. For the first time, one of the great tragedies of our country's history - mone in which the Navajos were the victims- is being ;resented from the Navajo point of view and by the Navajos themselves.
An unusual collection of interviews containing stories and memories passed down to younger generations about the years of the “Long Walk” during which the US Government purposefully consolidated and in effect almost wiped out the Navajo people. An important part of America’s history and simultaneously a singular glimpse into the psyche of an entire nation.
Physically a beautiful book, with a teal hardcover and exceptional illustrations both on the cover and throughout. It’s admirable the amount of work that went into this anthology. Most of the stories were the same, however. I felt like I could have read 3-5 of the longer pieces and been satisfied.
