Max Maldonado loves baseball. He knows playing first base at a private college probably won’t get him to the big leagues, but he doesn’t mind. He loves the game and his teammates. If he has to stay in the closet until he graduates, that’s okay. Baseball comes first. Relationships are complicated anyway. And after his recent messy breakup, Max prefers to keep things simple. ...more

I'm becoming quite a fan of this Author. This is a delightful college romance with two hugely likeable MCs.

When I requested this I didn't realize it was actually book four but it definitely stands on its own.Characters from the previous book are very well introduced and while I believe Max and Phoenix featured in that book I didn't feel as though I missed anything here.

It might be a typical theme in gay romance...the guy deep in the closest and the guy who's out and proud but this one seemed to s

How cute is this story, you guys?

It's so fucking cute, I can't even.

Let's summarize:

Masc baseball player who loves eyeliner on his hot not-boyfriend but only talks about video games and baseball because otherwise it's feelings and nope.

Insert completely necessary and not at all gratuitous pic of baseball's finest ASSets here:

Femme drama major/actor who isn't afraid to be all out, including lip gloss and fairy dancing (to be fair, he was channeling Puck).

Lane Hayes is one of my go-to authors. Her relationship development is some of the best I've read, and Out in the Field was no exception.

In this fourth installment of the Out in College series, we have an out and proud theater student, Phoenix, and a closeted college baseball player, Max. The two had met months prior, but nothing came of it because Max was in a relationship, but neither forgot about the other. There was a feeling of kismet, and when they ran into each other again, Max seized

Very definitely my favourite in a series of quite excellent new adult sports romances.

Max is a study in contrasts, he's kick ass on the baseball diamond but so vulnerable in his own life because of his fears over coming out.

Phoenix is the perfect foil for him, out but still not secure in his ability to find someone who truly wants him for himself and not just as a side attraction.

The sparks flew when they met in the previous book, but I loved how this friends to lovers romance coupled with a fr

I have been looking forward to Max's story, I knew we'd get it and we did! I have to say two things, first this was my favorite of the series so far, and second I love a good second-chance-romance and that is what we have here.

If you have read OUT IN THE OFFENSE, you'll remember Max he was Christian's best friend and also his first everything. He was also in a relationship with Sky (whom I really didn't like) at the time. All three of the men were keeping their sexual preference a secret so no o
This book just didn’t hit it out of the park for me.
It took me a minute to get into and I felt like I was so focused on trying to remember the bits of Max from Christian’s book. Once I got myself sorted I just started over and then I was invested.

So, once it was going I was into it. I loved Phoenix. I mean, loved him. I just needed more of him. I needed more background on him, what he remembered from the initial meeting etc. I needed more Max. More belief to believe him. I think had we gotten Ph
Right now I'm floating on cloud 9 after finishing Max and Phoenix's story!

I have to stay I was skeptical when it came to Max because of the kind of relationship he had with Sky and the kind of relationship he had with Christian. I found him to be clingy and a bit needy when it came to Christian, but after reading his story I fully understood his reasons.

He wasn't clinging to Christian because of latent, repressed or any kind of feelings left from when they were together but because of the way Ma

Out in the Field is the 4th installment in the Out in College series. It can be read independently of its series without too much confusion. However, I strongly recommend the series is read in order. The characters overlap, as do their struggles. The emotional payout/connection to the characters would be stronger if read in order.

I really, really enjoyed this one. Loved it.

Max is the best friend and ex-boyfriend of Christian from the last book in this series. Remember Max, who had that dysfunctional relationship with his boyfriend, Sky? They had a lot of sex but they didn't have much else to their relationship. That's Max. For Max, it's been three months since he met Phoenix, who he met at the night club where Christian and Rory get it on in a supply closet (if I'm remembering right) and who he made out with.

Once again Ms. Hayes hits another one out of the ballpark. This is book four of her Out in College series. It can be read as a stand-alone but you might want to read book 3, Out in the Offense to get a better feel for the dynamics of the characters.

Max loves baseball. It has consumed him his whole life. Along with the sport, his family is what he cares for the most. As a young boy, he has tender memories of his father tossing a ball to him for hours on end. His interest in baseball morphed into

This is the fourth in the series, and whilst you could read this as a stand alone, you would miss the couple's first encounter (although it is described here too), and some of Max's back story. They are all excellent and interlink, so I would recommend them all to you.

Max is nearing the end of his college baseball career, and just wants his sexuality to stay under the radar a bit longer. Meeting Phoenix again puts a ser

A fantastic addition to this series!

I have loved all of the books in this series and this story for Max and Phoenix is no exception. It's book four in the series and characters from the other books make an appearance. While you could probably read this as a standalone, I strongly suggest reading the series in order. Their stories and individual books are great and will add to your enjoyment of Out in the Field.

Out in the Field is the fourth book in the Out in College series by the fabulous and talented Lane Hayes. I'm a huge fan of Lane's and this series! We've known Max for a while, and honestly, I wasn't sure I was going to love him. But I do! So much! He's so much more than a closeted jock. He comes from a good home with loving family. Baseball is his life, but he's lonely. He's living a lie and he thinks if he just hides until college is over he'll be ok. But he's not ok. He's lonely and sad and d ...more

This is the 4th book in the Out in College series.

Max is a baseball player, he eats, breathes, dreams and baths baseball. Max is Christian's BFF and roomie (from Book 3) and also Max's ex after dropping him for fellow baseball player, Sky. After that relationship turns toxic, Max is on his own and seems to be stuck in a rut. After Christian comes out, Max still can't get his head around doing the same and still fears his family and teams reaction, so decides to keep quiet.

Out in the Field is the fourth installment in the Out in College series. These books can be read as stand alones without issue but there is character/storyline overlap that plays out better if the series is read in order.

Lane Hayes' Out in the Field, the fourth book in her Out in College series, has all the charm I've come to expect from this series. I love college romances, and this series is fantastic.

Max and Phoenix are complete opposites, one a theater geek, the other a closeted baseball player. Their first meeting was hot, but the timing was off. Now they can't let a chance slip through their hands again. As they give into their mutual attraction, they start a friends with benefits arrangement. But the best

Sweet Romance.

Yet another winner from Ms Hayes. I love this series so much. Each book is just so different, there's hardly any angst in this one, and so many smiles.

Max's initial meeting with Phoenix in the story was so upbeat and funny. It was obvious, even at this stage, that Max was a goner. I was so intrigued to see how Max, who is deep in the closet, would handle it all. I loved Max's personality, he's such a sweetheart. He has no pretensions, and knows exactly who/what he is. He makes no b

This is a fun, sweet new adult read. It’s the story of the relationship between a college baseball star and the self-professed theatre geek he meets on a night out. Max is a closeted, singularly focused jock and Phoenix is...fabulous. It’s not a terribly original storyline but the characters are well drawn and I really enjoyed the connection between Max and Phoenix.

This is Max’s story and it took me a while to warm to him. His c

First of all, be prepared to LOVE Phoenix. He's sassy and flirty, and he's funny as hell.

Phoenix and Max met a few months ago at a bar when Max was with Sky. It was an open arrangement, so there wasn't cheating, but Max felt the connection and wanted more. So when he sees Phoenix on campus, it's like fate has given him another chance.

Phoenix is a free spirit. With a love of acting, french fries, makeup, and a kink for sporty types, he's open to pretty much anything except being forced into a clo

Max loves baseball, plays in college and holds a very deep secret from everyone except for his long time friend. Then he meets Phoenix one night and that night stays with him for months.

On campus he runs into Phoenix, shocked it was him, that same feeling comes over him. He wants this so bad but knows he just can’t come out, afraid his family will be disappointed, his team

Out In The Field, the story of Mazx and Phoenix, is another great addition to Lane Hayes' college series and I really enjoyed the way the author helped Max set right his priorities in life.

Because Max has only ever loved baseball. Ever since he was a little boy being in the field was everything he wanted,to the point that now he doesn't now how to put himself and his needs before the game. Coming out wasn't part of his

3.5 stars for Out in the Field. This is a sweet easy read that I read on a nice lazy Sunday. It's well written and the characters are well developed and likeable. My only criticism would be that it's not very original. There are multiple books along this theme in this genre and I thought that was a shame. The general premise is hot closeted jock meets fabulously out and proud theatre guy, it starts out as just a casual arrangement but then feelings deepen and everything becomes very complicated. ...more

So it took me a while to get into the story and getting into Max's character. As we just read from his POV, I think is why it took me a bit to enjoy the book but when you meet Phoenix and then have regular interaction with him, there's a noticeable difference to Max and the way he thinks on things. We get interaction with Christian (book 3) and it's clear how much the friendship means to Max which I think was needed after reading his character in book 3. Phoenix is like a breath of fresh
Holy moly! This book is everything I hoped it would be and so much more!! Max and Phoenix have undeniable mind-blowingly explosive chemistry but more than that, they are just perfect for each other. I could tell from the beginning that their booty call deal was going to blow up in their faces because of how much they gelled! The fact that this is a baseball romance set the bar high for me but I knew Lane wouldn’t let me down and holy crap was I right? I loved seeing Christian and Rory again and ...more

Another home run for Lane Hayes!

Out in the Field is the fouth book in the Out in College series. Our MC is Max, Christian's bff/ex from book three. He sleeps, eats and breaths baseball and has little times for anything else, let alone relationships, but that all changes when he meets Pheonix.
Pheonix is everything Max is not, flamboyant, wears make up, loves the theater and most importantly
This is #4, in the Out In College series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading these stories in order.

Max finds out someone he had met in the past is now attending his school. It would not matter, except this is someone he cannot forget. Now he can't stop thinking about him night and day. Can he get past the hang ups and take a chance?

Phoenix AKA "Nix" is thrilled to be at a school that offers so much more. When he runs into

This was a quick read and it held my attention once Max & Phoenix really started getting to know each other. I loved their interactions. Phoenix was my favorite and I wish we had more from him, his POV would’ve been nice. I think it would’ve made for a stronger story.

The issue I had with this was that I’ve read what feels like a million books just like it. Max was afraid to come out because he thought his team and parents wouldn’t accept him. They were all fine with Max’s best fri

I just loved Max and Phoenix’s story and couldn’t put it down! One of my favorite reads is closeted athletes, so the Out in College series has been a favorite must-read for me. When Max, the closeted baseball player, crosses paths again with Phoenix the out drama student, feelings resurface from their meeting at an LA nightclub months ago. After a blind-date setup gone wrong, Max sees Phoenix again where Phoenix suggest an “Indecent Proposal” for a closeted friends with benefits. With the guidel ...more

This is another great installment in the Out in College series and I really enjoyed it. Phoenix and Max are an intriguing couple with an instant connection and smoking hot chemistry. I like how their relationship develops even though there is a little angst about Max not being ready to come out. I liked the characters of Max and Phoenix. They had met a few months back in a club, but nothing went too far and they never thought they would see each other again. Max is a college baseball player in deeply in the closet. When they meet again, Max can’t deny that he wants Phoenix, but is afraid of coming out.
