This story collection is chock-full of summer love, fruity lipglosses, birds, TV shows, cocktails, sunglasses, bars, perfume, cowboys, kisses, beers, secrets, movies, dates, icons, lust, '90s songs, and coziness. Leesa Cross-Smith knows a few things about desire.

Oh wow, oh wowwww. Beauty. I love this collection so much. These stories are sometimes not more than a moment or two, so short, but plenty to encourage the reader to fill in the blanks—which I love!—and ache and wonder or hope. Told in letters sometimes, or texts, and varying tenses and different points of view, the common thread is one that incorporates self doubts and love in spite of or because of, and all sorts of love, and little things to love, too: lip gloss flavors, good nicknames, song ...more

Oh my gosh. This book. The stories are smart, thought-provoking, funny, and poignant. Cross-Smith has a gift for turns of phrase and imagery that depict something (a sensation, an emotion, a craving) in such a perfect way you wonder how you never thought of it yourself. I read this too fast because I was hungry for every sentence; I know I missed a lot so plan to re-read.

"'What a relief not to be scared to death of you, here alone,' I'd tell you. 'That's why the only men I give my heart to live in my TV."

Leesa Cross-Smith's SO WE CAN GLOW is a collection of 42 stories around the concept of female desire. No matter how short the vignette, the reader is immediately pulled into the lives of these women or the emotions of the situation. Cross-Smith is a masterful storyteller, managing in even one sentence what many of us can only dream of achieving in pages of work.

So I loved this book. I am not normally one for an anthology of short stories but what Smith writes was so poignant and powerful.
...Not to mention that I read the opening piece to like three people.

It’s full of stories about women who are flawed and real and honest; i knew these women. I loved her writing style and the the aspects of life she chose to write about. The prose was beautiful as well.

You’ll finish this book and want to hang out with your friends immediately.

I sat down to quickly sort through a stack of ARCs. My intention was to create a pile of those I wanted to read and those that didn’t grab me. A few hours later, I turned the last page of “So We Can Grow.” It grabbed me and didn’t let go until I turned the last page. Leesa Cross-Smith is a masterful storyteller and this collection of short stories is a masterpiece.

I won a copy of this book.

My favorite stories are short stories. I like that I can read a quick story or two between appointments or before bed. They're my go-to "waiting in the car to get the kids after school" or "half-time at the sporting event".

These stories are quirky and entertaining and lovely...and you get 42 of them! This should be your spring read. Book clubs, take note.
