At first I really liked the book. It looked promising and even convincing. In fact I am convinced that tithing, as it is practiced in the churches, is not biblical for the New Covenant Christian and can be,as the author mentions, damaging to our walk with God. He makes a convincing case for this and because of this it is a worthwhile read.

However, As I got more into the book, I started to notice that it becomes increasingly critical, bitter, and slanderous to the point where the book, itself, becomes just as unedifying as a televangelist. For this reason I cannot recommend it. He should have shortened it and took out some of the bitterness.

It is however, helpful in one way in that it opens up a topic that needs to be explored. There are better books out there but this was the one given to me. So I read it. Read some of the other reviews, especially the ones that gave it 1 or 2 stars. They claim to have some better recommendations.

In the end I'm giving it 3 stars. I think it is not only a worthwhile book but an important one as well. Mr. Johnston, the author, has apparently been hurt by these charlatans in the church so I can understand why he is so adamant. It helped me and maybe it can help you.
