The Devil's Dires #7

Savage Salvation

Rate this book

There’s no escaping a Dire Wolf on the hunt...

No one can understand the tormented life of Dire Wolf Luc. As Alpha of his pack, he should be the most powerful and confident in the bunch, but his ability to sense others—the emotions and presences of existing as both shifter and human—has worn him down. Dire Wolves seem to live forever, but Luc has begun feeling as if the end of his road is approaching. He’s also stuck on a mission he can’t solve, searching for shewolves he can’t find, and failing his pack all the way around.

Cassiel is a woman who makes her own rules and lives her own life—a solitary one in the bush of Alaska with just her sled dogs and a healthy respect for the dangerous lands around her. She has no interest in other people or trying to follow someone else’s rules. But anyone alone in the bush needs to be prepared for predators, and while she’s ready to tackle any threat, there’s one that scares her more than the others. A creature from her nightmares lurking in the dark and howling at the moon.

One soldier struggling with the overwhelming chaos in his mind, one woman terrified of the monsters that seem to haunt her world, and a chance encounter that brings each of them closer to the edge of death than ever before. In the world of the Dire Wolves, the leader of the pack is the strongest and surest of them all. But when the mission stalls out, Luc will have to use any means necessary to find the women he can’t be sure actually exist…even if that includes scaring off the one woman whose very presence quiets the storm inside him.

One soldier, one fight…one chance at forever.

A storyteller from the time she could talk, USA Today bestselling author Ellis Leigh grew up among family legends of hauntings, psychics, and love spanning decades. Those stories didn’t always have the happiest of endings, so they inspired her to write about real life, real love, and the difficulties therein. From farmers to werewolves, store clerks to witches—if there’s love to be found, she’ll write about it. Ellis lives in the Chicago area with her husband, daughters, and a German Shepherd that refuses to leave her side.

Ok, so whichever wolf I loved best before… Luc just had him beat.

As the alpha, Luc feels the responsibility of the world on his shoulders (haunches? idk). But he does. He’s also been in Alaska for a few years, hunting for the omega shewolves that were taken by a pack of wolves not abiding the NALB.

Now that all his pack-brothers have found their mates, Luc is alone in his hunt, unless something arises that calls for him asking for their help. When Luc, in his wolf form, stumbles upon Cassiel, a woman living on her own out in the wild with a pack of six sled dogs, he is drawn but not by a bond as strong as a traditional mating bond. Which confuses him. And drives him to figure out why he can’t sense her feeling the same towards him.

Cassiel, not a big fan of wolves, is chasing the big black wolf that showed up on her doorstep, only to meet the man inside him days later, and help him in his journey. But the most interesting part is that Cassiel’s reason for not liking wolves is in her life’s essence.

And then Luc senses danger to be very fast approaching, and calls for his pack to join him, females included (which pisses off some of the brothers), a child shifter stumbled upon the Dire homestead, and all hell broke loose.

I loved how things shifted (see what I did there?) between Cassiel and Luc from the moment they met through the end of the book. Everything in their bond was so much more complex than with any of the other Dires, and all that had happened during the plot’s progression was a lot more interesting as a result.

This book is basically the culmination of the entire Dire series, and not because of the end of the story, but because the complexities of this world comes to a head in such a beautiful, careful and intense way.

The End of the Series

3.75 Stars.

I was really looking forward to this one. And while it was good it also lacked a few things.
It needed a bit more action and less of Luc's empathic problems. We kept getting that there was a 'sickness' in the area and it seemed to come from the pack he had been following and checking on. But we never really got any answers as to what or why or when that sickness was or came from.
Also never got answers as to why Cassiel was raised the way she was.
The sex scenes were a bit milder than all the other books before this one.
I enjoyed it but it really needed to be more.

I was so happy when I saw Savage Salvation had been released. I've been waiting on Luc's story since he was introduced in book one. He is such a strong and protective Alpha. Cassiel is a strong female. Unfortunate circumstances had her wolf buried so far down.. well just one click this excellent read and you'll see.

LOVE OR DUTY???
Title: Savage Salvation - A Dire Wolves Mission
Series: The Devil's Dires
Author: Ellis Leigh
Designation: Book 7 of Series, Full-Length Short Novel, Standalone, No Cliffhanger
My Rating: FIVE SINFULLY SEXY STARS*****
Oh my! I loved, loved, loved Savage Salvation! Ellis Leigh totally rocked my world again with the seventh riveting release in The Devil's Dires and folks, this one was a real barn burner! Leigh grabbed me in the first few pages and had me choking back tears well before the end of the first chapter. I sighed, snickered, snorted, snuffled, sobbed, swore, shook my fists in anger, and outright ugly cried through the entire book and LOVED every single second. As an avid follower of this series since its inception in 2016, I knew before reading the first page that Luc's story would be an angsty, emotional experience, but the depth of emotions evoked by this book completely caught me by surprise. I've been a diehard fan since Leigh began her writing career almost five years ago and her passionate, raw, all-consuming prose still takes my breath away. For anyone familiar with Leigh's work, you may be asking yourself: Why does The Devil's Dires sound familiar? Well, there's actually a very good reason. The Dire Wolves were first introduced as secondary characters in Leigh's Feral Breed Motorcycle Club Series, so we've known of the existence of this small, select group of wolf shifters for quite some time; we just didn't know a whole lot about them other than they acted as the Cleaners for the Blasius 'Blaze' Zenne, president of the NALB (North American Lycan Brotherhood). While the Feral Breed MC members act as the enforcers or police for the NALB, the Cleaners are an elite strategic group created by Blaze as a cover for the seven-member pack of Dire Wolves, a dangerous breed long thought to be extinct. And folks, these wolf shifters are tougher than tough, badder than bad, meaner than mean, and better than the best. They live hard and fight harder. But after a lonely millennia of existence, none of these wolf shifters have ever found their mates - until now.

Series Premise:
The Dires are all handsome, sexy wolf-shifters, but unlike other wolves, the Dire Wolves are a breed among themselves, one shrouded in mystery and now almost extinct with only a small group of seven known to still exist. (That is, until recently. Oops...slight spoiler!) And all seven of their pack make up a secret, elite team of soldiers, trackers, and hackers who are by far the biggest, baddest, and toughest of any species known to man or wolf. They are better than the best, called upon when the talent and skill of the Feral Breed's finest wolf shifters fall short to successfully accomplish the mission. The Dire Wolves submit to no one yet choose to work for Blasius 'Blaze' Zenne, President of the North American Lycan Brotherhood, the ruling power over all shifters in the country. Their breed owes their loyalty only to each other, but these Dires do hold in high regard one man outside their seven-man pack, and that man is Blasius Zenne. They are loyal to Blaze, not the NALB. They answer only to him when he calls, not because they have to, but because they respect him, choose to bend to his authority and obey his orders. Their duties fall under the purview of Blaze's Cleaners, a unit used to solve certain problems when unparalleled skill and lethal action are required. As the series progresses, we get to know all seven Dire Wolves with each book featuring primarily one member of the team as he embarks on a perilous mission, made even more complicated when he meets his fated mate, the one woman the universe created just for him. Each of these highly principled wolf shifters must face their destinies while their hearts battle between duty to their new found mates, and duty to their mission, as well as to their breed. One Brotherhood... One mission... One man... One mate... One fate... So buckle up, my lovelies, it's a wild ride!

As always when talking about books and authors I enjoy, I tend to get a little carried away and a lot wordy, but here are a few details about the book itself. The story is exciting, imaginative, compelling, fast paced, action packed, suspenseful, sexy, romantic, steamy, and exceptionally well crafted and edited. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with clearly discernible perspectives from the two protagonists: stoic Dire Wolf Alpha Lucifer aka Luc, and beautiful, strong, independent Cassiel. The dialogue is smart, raw, intense, seductive, well executed and flows effortlessly. There are so many elements that make Leigh's stories great, and she skillfully combines them all to craft a riveting paranormal tale filled to the brim with danger, drama, action, adventure, suspense, angst, passion, and romance. I've loved the entire premise for this series as well as the extraordinary world Leigh created, but the magnificent cast of characters is, hands down, my favorite component. They are engaging, relatable and literally explode from the pages, demanding my undivided attention, capturing my imagination, and completely stealing my heart. And Luc and Cassiel were certainly no exception! Luc and his, sometimes, all-knowing abilities have been such an enigma throughout the entire series. I would describe Luc as a powerful, courageous, steadfast, unwavering leader and friend, one whose loyalty has always been dedicated to his pack and duty. And Cassiel... I don't even know where to begin to describe her. I knew it would be difficult to develop a heroine to match Luc's powerful persona, but Leigh always rises to the challenge, and she certainly nailed it with Cassiel. I was truly impressed by Cassiel’s strong, fierce, independent, and intelligent nature, living alone in the wilds of Alaska with only her sled dogs as friends and companions and growing herbs to make natural medicines as her only means of income. She was also a little jaded, leary of others, and preferred to live the life of a recluse, which was understandable as a result of living a hard life as an orphan since the age of two and bounced from one foster home to another, yet she was still kind. She and Luc were so perfect for each other and complemented each other brilliantly. They both provided a vital part the other desperately needed in their life. And of course, their sexual chemistry was smokin' hot, even if it did take half the book for them to even begin to recognize their feelings. (But there was a very good reason!) lol... What I'm trying to say as tactfully as possible is, this is not your usual instalove story where the hero immediately says upon meeting the heroine, "Me Tarzan, you Jane. You're my mate and I will claim you now," then they automatically jump into bed together. lol... It was a lot more complicated and emotional, which just happens to be Ellis Leigh's specialty. Like most fans of the series, I have eagerly awaited Luc's book, but reading his story was bittersweet. As the only member of the pack left without a mate, logically, I knew his date with fate would probably be the last book of the series, which broke my heart. I didn't want to say goodbye to any of these characters who have commandeered a piece of my heart for the last 3 years. But, and there's always a but, sometimes the end is only the beginning, or possibly a better statement would be a quote from Marianne Williamson, "Every ending is a new beginning". Nope, no spoilers from me. Just no, absolutely not! You'll just have to read the book. lol...

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! I loved the world building and the strong, courageous, larger than life characters Leigh created for this series. It can be read as a standalone but be forewarned, it does have an underlying interconnected conflict with recurring characters throughout the series, so to enrich your reading experience and avoid spoilers, I highly recommend reading the books sequentially. I was completely hooked in the first few pages and quickly found myself totally immersed in the lives of the characters. All the storylines in The Devil's Dires have been engaging, but Leigh totally gutted me with Savage Salvation. Leigh not only tugged at my heartstrings, she ripped my heart right out of my chest. Ellis Leigh is a gifted storyteller and skilled wordsmith - a true master of her trade, always giving readers the perfect combination of danger, action, suspense, humor, romance, and sex. And, of course, leaves us sighing, swearing, sweating bullets, gasping for our next breath, and begging for more! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain naughty language and explicit sex scenes. Who knew Luc could be such a dirty, sweet talker but I loved every word! lol... Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I loved this story and the characters. I cried for them, empathized with them, laughed with them, cheered for them, shook my fists in anger as they fought their enemies.....and I never wanted it to end! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Long thought to be extinct, Luc and his six Dire Wolf brothers had learned to be invisible by hiding in plain sight. These seven Dire packmates kept their true identities secret by trusting only each other, except for one man outside their small pack, and that was Blasius Zenne, president of the NALB, the man who helped them maintain their cover. For millennia, they'd suffered a lonely existence, knowing they were the last of their kind, with no hope for family or happiness. But for some unknown reason, fate had finally decided to intervene in their lives. All six of his Dire brothers had recently found their true mates, leaving him as the only unmatched male left. All have been Omegas, a variety of shewolf thought to be a long-lost relative of the Dires and shewolves they'd sworn to protect. Two thousand years was a long time to exist without a mate by your side, and he'd long ago given up hope of ever finding his. Even after all six of his brothers had unexpectedly found the other half of their soul, he'd assumed his mate would never appear. As Alpha and leader of his pack, it was his responsibility to carry on, even if it meant completing his mission alone. But the constant barrage of feelings and emotions, from both his pack and humans, as well as the sickness of the land around him have worn him down. He's tired, weary, exhausted physically as well as mentally, and fears the end for him may be near. Fueled only by disappointment and failure of his mission to locate the still missing Omega shewolves, he tenaciously continues his search in the isolated Brooks Range of Alaska, where a cloud of evil seems to shroud the land. For the last 12 months, Luc has continued his mission alone, sacrificing his own wellbeing to allow his pack brothers the time to enjoy their new mates. But recently, something had changed. Luc could sense it, smell it, taste it. His empathic abilities told him something was coming, and that something could very well mean the end for him. It was time to call in his pack and complete this mission once and for all. But fate has a surprise in store for Luc, one in the form of a brave, feisty, independent woman with the face and name of an angel living alone in the wilds of Alaska, a female whose presence calmed the static and unrest in his mind, a peaceful oasis and soothing reprieve from the constant flood of emotions and darkness surrounding him. The mates of his Dire brothers had all been Omega shewolves with the names of angels. This female’s name was Cassiel, also the name of an angel... Could she possibly be another lost Omega? She smelled human but had to be something more, something he couldn't quite identify - yet. But he would. Why was he so drawn to this woman who appeared to be only a human, one that knew nothing of shifters or magic? More importantly, is it possible she could be his mate? If so, his mission just became a lot more complicated. For the first time in his long millennia of existence, his priorities were torn. How can he complete his mission and simultaneously keep Cassiel safe from the danger coming for them both? Will Luc choose duty or love? Must he sacrifice one for the other? We'll see!

Claiming Her Fate!!!

As we say in the previous book ( SAVAGE SECURITY ), Dire Wolf and Alpha of the Dires, Luc found himself drawn to an isolated town in Alaska named, Anuktu. He was still searching for the lost shewolves. But there was something he was hiding from his pack. He was dying. Before the end, he wanted to complete this very important task. He wouldn't fail, no matter what.

Cassiel was a loner who lived by her own set of rules. She lived isolated in the Bush of Alaska with her sled dogs. She also respected the dangerous lands that around her. She had nightmares about a creature lurking in the dark and howling at the moon. She never expected for her nightmares to come true when she met the beautiful stranger who'd tilted her world on its axis.

Luc was getting worse and only Cassiel was able to smooth him and his inner beast. She was a dormant Omega she wolf and his mate. The animal she saw in her dream was her own beast who wanted to be released.

Along with his pack, he continued his search, they faced some obstacles but in the end their persistence paid off. Even if it was bittersweet. Loved all the twists and turns the Dire pack encountered. It was a treat to see Luc finally get his HEA.

SAVAGE SALVATION is the seventh and final book in Ellis Leigh's DEVIL'S DIRES . It was fascinating, emotional and a wonderful journey. Fantastic job by Ellis Leigh. I recommend you guys grab yourselves a copy! 5++++

Cassiel loves her home..away from everything in Alaska but she's not lonely or bored because she has her herbal medicine business and she has her sled dogs to keep her company. When Luc has to spend the night at Cassiel's she is worried about her routine but she learns that being with Luc is...nice.

Luc is the alpha of the Dire wolves. All of this brothers in the pack have found omegas shewolves as mates he is the last one. He also has the ability to sence the emotion and the presence of everyone around him both human and shifter. But this mission to find 2 omegas shewolves that have been kidnapped by an sick wolf pack has bad things worse. Just when he is about to break he run into a small human female who calms his mind, perks his wolfs interest and make him feel at peace. He feels a connection it's small could she be is mate? One way mating? How could an Dire wolf have a human mate what was fate thinking or is this all his broken mind?
Love the action, drama, mystery, spice and more this story has going on. It also has awesome characters and fantastic story lines that pulls you in and keeps you in the story!
Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it

Great read, it’s a page turner from start to finish. I had trouble putting it down to do anything. I’m sorry to see the series end, but glad that I got to read such an amazing series.

Good—but not great for a final book in series

I fell in love with Ellis Leigh with the Feral Breed. Stumbled upon it with my love of all things Supernatural. I’ve read each and every book in each large and small series. Love everything from cover-to-cover, all the action, the stories, the characters, and every hot and steamy scene in between!! I’ve laughed, cried, and yelled right along with characters.

This book, with Luc and Cassiel, made me so happy to know that each and every Dire Wolf finds their mate. Especially Luc.
I wanted to give this 5 stars—it is a good read, drags in some places but does keep you interested in almost all of it. My biggest-small complaint is that I felt like the ending was rushed.
After all these books, after all these series, it ends—just like that? In once sense it makes me feel like, yes there will be more Dire Wolf Books; but then again, there’s no mention of another book or spin-off series.

Also, it really would have been nice to have a better tie-in with all the pack brothers and Omegas all one place, when was the last time the pack were all together? It was a short visit before Luc had to run off into the woods for some alone time.

And I feel that the ending deserved so much more!!! I feel like every character had so much hot and steamy scenes in their books and Luc gets minimal? Thumbs down on that one.
I just feel like we could have gotten to know Luc and Cassiel more. I was left wanting more, with so many questions!!! So I really hope there will be a spin-off or another series. Especially to get to know Luc better—he seems to literally be the glue that holds their pack together! I just want to know more about him, and all the other Dire Wolfs I fell in love with!!

Finally the alpha finds his place and his peace

I loved Luc and Cassiel’s intense, swoony, emotional and uplifting story. At its heart, this book is a story of two loners who are bruised but not broken people and who find their way together. Luc is a legendary Dire Wolf and is alpha for his pack. He has psychic abilities that allow him to sense other beings and their emotions. Because of this he is a little rough around the edges, a little wild. He retreated to Alaska years ago to quiet the noise and has spent the last several years hunting for lost women while monitoring a sick pack. Cassiel lives alone in a remote part of Alaska with her dogs growing medicinal plants. Cassiel and Luc are mates but things are very complicated. Nevertheless, their exciting, dangerous roller coaster journey toward their HEA begins. This book has a little bit of everything you’d expect from romantic suspense - sweet moments, fan your face steam, dangerous action, strong friendships, painful pasts, mystery, plot twists, uber protective men, imperfect characters, and even a few chuckles. The story was well written, the characters had depth and growth, and the storyline was engaging. I am sorry to see the end of this series but excited about the possibility of my Dires.

The narrator did an excellent job bringing this story to life. Very interesting storyline and a different take on the wolf shifters. This is my first book from the series and it was great. Now I'm going back to read the rest of the series.

I do love this series

I found this series after reading the Feral Breed MC series. I loved that and so love this even more. Ever since I started Dire Wolves I've been waiting for Luc's story.

And I wasn't disappointed. I'm just sad there's no more...

A Devil’s Dire

I’m a little disappointed in this story since it appears to be the final book in the series and it is about the Alpha finding his mate. The addition of the sled dogs made the story unappealing.

It was a great last book for the dire wolves series and I really enjoyed reading it. Luke was an enigma so when we finally got to meet him and get to know him, I found him very interesting. His sweet little mate was perfect for him.

Mission Complete

All seven dires come together to help their fearless leader when he calls. On this final mission (queue sad music, cuz it is) Luc is so deep into finding those missing women that he doesn't realize the missing piece of his soul is so close to him. She's a strong Omega of course she is to be paired with such a strong leader. Cassiel has always lived in the Brooks Range and feared nothing except for the monsters that came out at night. The monsters that frighten her when she was six years old and was an orphan and seen it with her very own eyes in one of her fosters homes when her parents were killed. The only thing was the monster never did anything to her but watched over her. She could not understand why. Why did it creep in her room and no one see it.

Luc came across Cassiel by mistake or as care would have it and he could not stay away from her. When he realize he was one of the monsters she feared he kept that part of himself from her. Him and his brother's a long with the other Omegas hunted down the rotten wolf pack and found out why they could not find any women. This back was so foul the horrid things they did to women and child were unthinkable. But it was Cassiel who saved the day. She never knew she had it in her. That brave woman took on a pack of wolves to save the man to became to love and took her fate in hand. Between realizing the man you love is a wolf and yourself is a mighty wolf that is a whopper of a doozy. But to know there are children out there that need your help is unquestionable. For Luc to think he was going crazy because he's an empath who has felt everyone's feelings and short for over thousands of years and never realize peace until he met his mate was a blessing. He thought he was failing his pack but he wasn't. In the end everyone got what they wanted a few had babies, Luc and Cass on their way to travel and Bez and Sariel adopted three more little shewolves. What did you think I was gonna tell you the entire story? Naw, it's awesome! Just sad it had to end.

3.5 stars. Though I enjoyed reading this final book in the series, it just didn’t hold my attention in the first half. I usually binge read a Dire Wolves book but found this easy to put down.
Wonderful though it is to get Alpha Luc’s story after many years, it just didn’t have the energy and gripping passion of the other books.
The first half was slow and slightly repetitive with the dialogue and actions. They second half did pick up and gave us some action but this too seemed lacking. I can only say the Brooks Range pack are best left the way they were.
Cassiel is an orphan who grew up in the foster system and lives a frontier lifestyle in Alaska which I found enjoyable reading.
After a year in Alaska, Luc is chasing ghosts in trying to track two missing women held by a sick minded pack.
Though it was wonderful to get the outcome we do, it was also sad about the women.
The romance between Lucifer and Cassiel just took too long to get to a solid place and then just raced forward.
Interesting to see if we go down under anytime soon.
Read the previous books first as they are great.
This is my honest review of this book.

Sad to see them go but AWESOME BOOK!

The end of my favorite series, sad but true, but WHAT A WAY TO GO! There’s just something about these dire Alpha wolves that caught my interest and it just won’t go away. Maybe because they are so rough, tough and well alphas lol until it comes to women. Luc is the alpha of the alphas, so strong it hurt my heart to see him hurting. HIGHLY RECOMMEND but start with -Salvage Surrender- or better yet go back to the very beginning where everything started -Claiming Her Heart- and you’ll see why Its my favorite. (Ms. Leigh Australia has sooooo many possibilities!)

This is a story that makes you want to keep on reading. Luc is the Alpha of the Dire Wolf pack. He is on the hunt for two omegas held against there will when he comes across Cassiel. He doesn’t understand the draw at first but feels a connection to her. This story tells how the whole pack turns up to help including the Omega’s. I received this ARC for an honest review which I have given. I’m not going to spoil the story but to say this is a good book you will not be able to put down until the end.

Mission accomplished

Oh this was definitely worth the wait and it hopefully hinted that another adventure might make an appearance, I love this world. I've missed the Feral Breed but these Dires have more than made up for it. Luc, as Alpha has more than his share of gifts and Cassiel is strong in her own right. This was the first time the entire pack was together & it was great.

In Alaska, searching for women he knows are in around but no longer feels them but he can sense that evil is al around him. Well written, emotional, funny and sexy this book has it all. Hopefully Ms. Leigh will do a spinoff so we can continue to check in on all our favorites

Salvage Salvation...

A Dire Wolves Mission\The Devil's Dires book 7. What a fabulous way to end a great series. So Luc the alpha of the pack, seems to slowly be going insane. He is on a mission to find the missing Omegas. Luc meets Cassiel and her dogs. Who happens to be his mate but something is off. So he calls in his pack and the craziness get kicked up another level. This book was funny, drama filled and plenty of WTF moments.

Finally the mysterious Luc. I loved the way this story went. The mystery of Luc's pull to Cassiel and her unknown knowledge of what she is capable of. Fitting ending to this fabulous series. I will miss these guys though. Maybe we will get lucky and see them again down the road. Completely recommend this series.

Loved it !

Finally, Luc the Alpha and last of the Dires finds his mate or at least he thinks he may have while he is in Alaska tracking missing women who have been taken by a sick pack of wolves. Mrs Leigh really out did herself with Luc’s story. Loved it!

The Dire Wolves is an awesome series and Savage Salvation does not disappoint. Luc finally gets his story, his mate and his happily ever after. I'm ready for the next book and a trip to Australia.

I loved it!

I am so going to miss visiting with the Dire Wolves. The emotions of the pack were on full display and kept me turning that page to read some more.
