A fantastic picture book that teaches to much in a fun way.

Initially you get introduced to the farm and its residents. Then we follow the activities of the farm month by month through a complete year.

You could use this book as a springboard into a conversation about:
Months of the year
Seasons - the seasons are even the right way around (for us "antipodeans")
Life and Death
Farming
Eating food in season
Impacts of feral animals
Drought/importance of water

Andrew McLean does an outstanding job in capturing lots of action and information in the vignettes.

Don’t know why I read this, but gland I did. Now, this simple book, should be read to all our school children here in Australia, so they knew where all our food and resources come – Our Framers!

Yet, why are our framers coming under attack by our leaders, and all those living in the city who don’t understand the hard work that goes into farming, after growing up in a rural community, as most of the kids in my class, where farming families. Yes, going on a rant!

But this book is so good, as it shows all sides of living on the land, birth and death. Rain and drought, along with all the hard work a family does on the farm, as even the small children need to assist, in milking and taking care the of animals. This book, is based on an American version, but seen through the eyes of an Aussie Family, as our seasons are different, as Easter is in Autumn and Christmas is here in the middle of Summer, so usually hot.

A must read, to your children, if you come across it. Need, to appreciate our Farming Families a lot more, and praise them, for all the hard work they do for us!!!

Evocative, cheerful words and soft, detailed illustrations, take us through each season on the farm, where all the animals have their adventures, the kids work and play, and Mum and Dad keep the farming momentum going.

(Spoilers) So the brown dog was DEPRESSION all along, Right? And all the kid had to do was decide “it’s my move” for the dog to go away. Geddit?

Actually I really liked this fairly sombre, beautifully drawn boy, and Jack did too.

Realistic story of life on a Australian farm through the seasons. Simple, but perfect for young children to grasp some of the going on's of a family farm and how much can change in 1 year. Lovely illustrations and beautiful storyline.

this is a beautiful well illustrated book which discusses the what happens in a year on the farm. It is truthful account and if your reading it to young children you may have to "gloss over" some of it but I really liked this book
