This has been an excellent series so far. Although we don’t see Draven and the previous survivors in this book, we follow Phin, the newly minted ninth Duke of Mayne. Phin was the negotiator in the group and was recently elevated to the Dukedom after the deaths of his five brothers. Phin does not want to be the Duke but he does want the Wanton Widow. Annabelle, Countess of Longstowe is 15 years older than Phin and has quite the reputation. After a rough start Phin agrees to help her find her daug ...more

As the youngest of five sons, Phineas Duncombe never expected to find himself saddled with the title of Duke of Mayne. But now that he has the dukedom he never wanted, Phin must make the most of it. The rather mysterious circumstances surrounding his latest brother's death lead Phin to London to question the Countess of Longstowe, one of the last people to see his idiot brother alive. But the lady known as the Wanton Widow is not at all what Phin expected and he finds himself intrigued and tryin ...more

A not so expendable Survivor

Phineas Duncombe was supposed to be expendable, the fifth son, but now as the Duke of Mayne, he wasn't. Still, he wanted to speak with one of the last people to see his brother Richard alive: the Wanton Widow, Lady Annabel Longstowe. He thought her ravishing, and if he were honest, he hoped to seduce the Wanton Widow. Phin did not accomplish anything he set out to do. However, when she asked for his help in finding her daughter, she left him utterly flummoxed. And pro

Absolutely loved it! In fact, I think this is one of Shana Galen's best works - and since she's one of the best regency writers around at the moment that makes it one of the best regency reads I've had for a while! The characters have very real problems, emotional and physical, and the way the author faces them, with both realism and compassion is beautifully handled. I read it in 1.5 sittings, cover to cover - and it was only 1.5 because I had to sleep in the middle! Looking forward very much t ...more

I love this series so much and it has been amazing. I love all the characters and the plots. This book is about the doomed Duke Phineas Duncombe who is now the ninth Duke of Mayne. He never wanted the dukedom and never dreamed of getting it since he had four older brothers. Annabel is called the Wanton Widow because she was barely eighteen when she was married to the elderly Earl of Longstowe. This was a good book.

As with all of Shana Galen’s historical romances, she has again delivered a tale with sparkling dialogue and an adventure-packed plot. I’m so glad I accepted an invitation from the author, to read and review A Duke a Dozen, book six in the Survivors series. My opinions are my own and are not influence in any way.

Phineas, the Duke of Manne, is thrust into a role he’d never expected, nor wanted. Losing the four brothers who stood between him and the dukedom is beyond his comprehension, leaving him

I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of Shana Galen’s sixth Survivors book, A Duke a Dozen and the views expressed are my honest opinions. The Doomed Duke, Phineas Duncombe, ninth Duke of Mayne meets the Wanton Widow, Annabel Countess of Longstowe due to the peculiar circumstances his four elder brothers passed away.
After a rocky start, Phin realizes that the beautiful Countess is far more different than the ton believes. Despite the age gap, it does not take long for Phin to fall for her.

Reading a Shana Galen book is a special treat. This is one of my favorite series that tells the story of a special group of war heroes and how they find love. Phineas is a smooth talker. He has just taken up the mantle of Duke, something he never wanted. Annabel is a widow with a tarnished reputation who is desperate to find her daughter. They are attracted to each other but believe it is unworkable. When Annabel recruits Phineas to help her they embark on a journey of discovery. They discover t ...more

It was great to return to the Survivors series and read about Phin's story. The story was very real and dealt with a lot of subjects that could be awkward but the story was told perfectly. It was interesting to read about an older heroine especially since I am around that age myself. I also loved the romantic side story and the underlying mystery of Phin's curse. I am looking forward to the next novel in the series!

Another wonderful story in the Survivors series and I loved it. Annabel, Countess of Longstowe was married to an abusive, horrible old man and is happy to be a widow. The only thing she needs now is to find the daughter that was taken from her at two years old because she was “defective,” according to the old Earl. She’s hoping the Duke of Mayne, Phineas Duncombe, can use his position and influence to help her find her daughter, and he decides to help her, since he was known as “the negotiator” ...more

A Duke a Dozen, the 6th entry into the Survivors series by Shana Galen, is a wonderful story about unexpected love with a twist. It is also, at times, very emotional, and there’s even a mystery that should satisfy any reader.

The hero and heroine make the most unlikely couple. Phin is the reluctant 9th duke of Mayne. Annabel is the beautiful widow of an abusive count. When they meet, the inevitable sparks fly, but there is a twist: She is 15 years older than he is, a plot twist you don’t often

Phineas Leopold Duncombe, the 9th Duke of Mayne, and his friend Stratford Fortescue wonder about the four strange early deaths of Phin’s older brothers. One of the brothers died after visiting the “Wanton Widow” (Lady Anabel Longstowe) and Phin decides to ask her some questions. He also finds her very attractive, even if she is older than he. Annabel knows nothing about his brothers’ deaths, but she would like his help finding her child. Her husband had sent the child to a hospital that takes ca ...more

The most emotional Survivor yet!

Phin has survived the war as part of Draven’s Dozen as well as the deaths of his four older brothers...but he’s not likely to survive without his Wanton Widow. Annabel wants only to heal from her past wounds but can’t decide if Phin’s attentions will accomplish that feat or create new wounds.

For Phin it’s instant love and instant foot in mouth syndrome but he knows Annabel is it for him, so when she asks for his help he doesn’t hesitate. Watching Phin go above an

The Survivors are a group of guys who will melt your heart with compassion and love. Phin, I think, defines this group. He is one of the most compassionate and honorable heroes that I have read in a long time. He is worthy of a love that knows no bounds. Annabel is the woman for him (no spoilers but there is a part of Annabel’s life you really see how sturdy one becomes in the face of adversity). Their love story is beautiful.

4 Stars! This was a good read! It’s an older woman, younger man, standalone book. I loved that the main characters had servants that had a little point of view love story of their own- Reynolds and Meg/Mrs. Slightly. They were a cute couple. I loved how it was an older woman love story instead of the usual! I’ve read 2 of the other books in this series & I enjoyed them as well!

Every book in this series has been a good read. I like the different main characters. In this case, besides the history each have, the heroine is significantly older than the hero. Both main characters were well enough written that I felt I knew them personally.
There are also two side plots, not just the romance story line, to keep my brain occupied.

I loved the characters! Phin and Annabel are delightful together and I loved how thoughtful and tender he was with her. The age difference was a huge twist and I’m glad Phin totally disregards that fact to fight for a lifetime with the woman he loves. The subplot adds a good dash of spice and danger to their trek across the countryside.

I loved the pairing of Phineas Duncombe, the ninth Duke of Mayne and Lady Annabel Longstowe; it’s a fabulous twist on the May-December romance! Annabel is 15 years older than Phin and her reputation as The Wanton Widow is the talk of the town. Loved the scene when Phin asks Annabel about the nature of her relationship with his late brother. This conversation between the characters sets the tone for the novel. A jealous Phin tries to determine if his brother and Annabel were lovers. Loved that An ...more

This book intrigued me because I always appreciate a romance that features an older heroine. Why should only younger women have all the fun! I was surprised, though, that the hero was younger and not by just a small amount. They had a 15-year age difference between them. So I was interested to see how this book would go.

The first part of the book seemed a little bit too insta lust to me. Right in the first chapter, the duke is already mentally expressing his "admiration” of her and her assets f

Two people have never gotten off to such a bad start, but that spark between them can’t be denied. That heat is constantly between them building and waiting to burst into one of the strongest love stories. Between them and wondering who is after him I couldn’t put it down and flew through the book. I loved the switch with her being older than him and how open with each other they were.

This is the sixth book in The Survivors Series and it was great just as I expected! I love this series and it has been so hard waiting for this book. This book upholds the excellent tradition of the The Survivors series! I found this to be an emotionally satisfying and entertaining read. As with the previous Survivors books, there is a masterful blend of romance, danger, conflict, and humor. Likewise, the hero and heroine are relatable, likable, and well-matched.

One of the things that makes this book stand out is the fact that the heroine, Annabel, is notably older than the hero, Phin. Adding to the appeal of this book is that Annabel is kno

An intriguing addition to this series with the hero, Phineas (love that name), the new Duke of Mayne one of the soldiers who survived the war. Unfortunately as the title he now held was going, he may not live long enough to do anything. After all, his four brothers had all met their demise and he was left.
