The Picador Book of Sportswriting

Rate this book
This original collection includes pieces from acclaimed writers such as Martin Amis, Colm Toibin, and Roddy Doyle, as well as articles by more traditional sportswriters, such as Matthew Engel, Frank Keating, and Hugh McIlvanney. All have been inspired by the sports they love.

Some writings better than others. Some I just didn't read if they were about sportspeople way back in the past. This collection is mainly excerpts from existing books and writings rather than newer work, even at the time of publication. It's hard to get into a chapter about a cricketer from the 50s you've never heard of.

Some quality writing in this volume! Moreover, it includes some pieces that have not appeared in any earlier collections. Good reading for any aspiring sports reporter, especially if he or she wishes to write about sport.

Some great pieces, some good, some distinctly average. Like most collections - a mixed bag
