The pastry chef witch & the billionaire dragon-shifter: Not your mother's meet-cute… So… it doesn’t happen every day that you see a dragon shifter’s junk, up close and personal. Well, you’d think it’s this witch’s lucky day, but nope. Not even close. In fact, this day has been disastrous so far. But let me rewind the story for you. Hi, my name’s Aubrey, and I own Lavender & Cinnamon, the award-winning pastry shop conveniently located in one of the coziest neighborhoods in Seattle. My life’s filled with cupcake and hexes, and I like it exactly the way it is. Yesterday, I received ominous news from Mr. Stuart, my landlord—you guessed correctly, he’s the owner of the junk mentioned before. Anyway, he wants to evict my shop to build a high-rise on top of it. The last thing I need is a domineering billionaire who thinks he can do whatever he wants because he's rich. Sure, the man is unbearably handsome, generously endowed (I took a good look at it) and makes me weak in the knees... but rest assured I won't give up my shop without a fight. PS If you want to know more about the junk incident, you really need to read the book…
Monica La Porta landed in Seattle several years ago. Despite popular feelings about the Northwest weather, she finds the mist and the rain the perfect conditions to write.
Auther wants more money so splits one book into three
It fast pace, a lot of repeat of story throughout, , which makes since when you get to the end and find that there two more installments. I bought the other two because it going to drive me crazy to not finish I. However, I would not have bought it at all if I know it was okay at bat writing and then cut up to be installments instead one decent book. Save money buy a different book.
But to charge £1.99 for the next one at only 76 pages is a laugh. Why not make it into one book, rather than charging £3.98 for less than 300 pages. Sorry I won't continue this series.
This book was a quick delightful read, and now I must go buy all the rest to know what happens next! Monica La Porta definitely has a new fan in me! I absolutely love her writing style and the humor was on point! Highly recommend!
Short read, which perhaps is to be expected, given that the blurb warns that the three books are written like a serial. But I've been reading reverse harem books where each book is a full-length book, so... eh.
Anyway, I don't really like Andrew right now because ... hmm I think that might be a spoiler, but let's just say he's not the most honorable of men. Absolutely despicable. I'm going to read the next installment only because I want to find out what happens between him and Aubrey, since there is some magick at work. I guess in the process I'll find out how the author redeems him. I don't think he's redeemable at all right now.
Aubrey is an interesting character. The story is told completely from her POV in first-person, and that's a bit annoying because she tends to ramble and have repetitive thoughts. It bugged me that she said she was going to reverse the effects of her magick (because humans cannot know of the existence of supernaturals) but she didn't, after getting distracted by what happened with Andrew.
The story is a bit of a farce, OTT like the author was trying very hard to make it funny. It is a bit amusing but I still think the author tried too hard. But it's well-written and doesn't have typos, and the notion of a witch having a therapy dog is rather unusual.
The biggest reason why I liked this book is because it made me laugh. A lot. The main character is sassy, spunky, and hilarious. Not sure where to put it in terms of steamy but if you have a little bit of twisted humor, you're going to enjoy this, even though Aubrey is quite hung up on a certain appendage LOL. It's a quick read and the only downfall is that I want to know what happens next and now have to get the second book in the series. Normally I don't like big cliffhangers, but enough loose ends were tied to give a little reader satisfaction, and the laughs just made up for not getting the conclusion of what happens next (but some outcomes can certainly be imagined).
I love this story, too bad it has a cliffhanger, the only reason it gets a 4 star from me! Guess I'm going to have to get the rest because Ms LaPorta reeled me in and got me hooked! Her stories are awesome, haven't read one I don't like and a cliffhanger is no exception.
I laughed so much with the shenanigans Aubrey gets into and the things she says, she is adorable. Andrew is no exception either, I can just see the looks on his face! An itty bitty witch getting all into the face of a hot dragon shifter, thing is she has no choice, but to be close to the hot dragon, not that she doesn't want to, hut she doesn't! LoL
I'm giving you two stars, not because the story isn't very complicated and is predictable, but because I'd end up paying nine dollars of so for two hundred pages! C'mon. It's a cute story, and I liked the first book he's part, but it ends for me. I don't care about the main characters...won't know or care how it ends simply because it should've been one book. Seems like greed. I was willing to share my money for an entertaining light read. I hope you decide not to follow this trend again.
Stunningly awful “Book 1” cliffhanger that introduces the Hexes and Kisses from Seattle series. Andrew is good looking, wealthy, yada, yada, yada-the usual stereotype while Aubrey is exhaustingly sarcastic and average.
I must have been hexed to not only start, but finish this painfully drawn out predictable vomitus of words. The writing style does not work for me, the characters are poorly defined and I had enough of Minu’s interventions.
The title caught my eye, but the main character's sass kept me reading. I really like the old neighbor. The guy is a playboy but not as dominant as you would expect.
The plot is straightforward but has a nice twist at the end. What do you get when you combine a domineering witch with a large dragon shifter? Mayhem. Yes, it is cute, quirky, and a good evening read after a stressful workday.
I loved the introduction to Aubrey, and her world of yummy cupcakes and magic. Then there is the unveiling of the very fine Dragon shifter/millionaire Mr. Stuart. What an eye opener. The sudden spell that hits him first, and then her, is really a surprise. Then meeting her friends, who are all about her cupcakes, and who know, and support her and her cause to save her shop. Really a fun read, and I will be looking into her next two books.
The main character is interesting. She has a good sense of humor and a flair for the dramatics. The style of writing wasn’t drawn out and it placed you in the moment. What I didn’t like was the way this book ended. It forces the reader to purchase the second part of the series for $2.99 and it’s less than 100 pages. Not thoughtful for new potential followers. Perhaps the series could be condensed to two parts or just one book.
This is part 1 of a story not a book or novella. Ends on a cheap plot device, the cliff hanger. Insulting to readers and sloppy editing. Are we seriously supposed to believe her soul mate is someone who has a finance and kept her waiting whilst having sex with yet another women??
1 Star = DNF. 2 Star = Finished. Didn’t really enjoy. 3 Star = Finished. Story was neither good nor bad. 3.5 Star = Finished. Story was good. Will maybe pick up next in series if there is one. 4 Star = Finished. Enjoyed story & will definitely pick up next in the series! 5 Star = Bloody Loved it! ♡
Would of been a great book but it’s one book broken into 3 parts that I have to buy. No thinks as much as I want to read the whole thing int not worth the trouble. Parts are less then a hundred pages each?? I don’t understand why an author would do that. Seems shady just charge 6 bux for the whole thing if that’s what I want to do.
Was really enjoying the story, although it was very short. Went to grab the next one and realized it was one of those buy a chapter type books. First one free to snag your interest then the others are $3 each. No thanks. I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited so I don't have to pay unless it's a series I very much enjoyed.
I wish this story didn't feel so rushed! I don't mind a fast paced story, but this seemed to be pushed through too quick. I wish it had been slowed down a bit.
I will still be checking out the second book in the series to see what happens next.
What should have been one book has been split into three so the author could make a quick buck. This book ended extremely awkwardly and should not have been so short. Will not be purchasing the other two books and will not be recommending to anyone.
I enjoyed this taster of a book series, it was a free one click. A witch and a dragon shifter seem to be hexed or are they fated? You won't find out in this book that's for sure. It's a fun read with entertaining characters.
Holy shiznet!!! What a gr8 story. I love the snarky Aubrey. What I don't like is the cliffhanger. I'm looking forward to reading the next book. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
2.5 stars. This was an interesting start to a story, but I wish it was combined with some of the later volumes to make something a bit more complete rather than this book really just acting as a set-up to the rest of the series.
I hate serials. Just write the complete book or seres. I really enjoyed this first story now I am mad I have to keep buying $3 books for 8 short chapters.
